Problem with network printer
by Guest Charlie- 0 replies

I recently installed a HP6980 printer on my home network. I can print from two computers but not from one. I am running with a Linksys router and switch and have Windows XP on all computers. All the applications I try to print from give me different error messages but basically say they can't print because of an error with the printer. The error messages don't really say anything specific. The HP install went fine with no errors or issues. I can see and configure the printer in the control panel. I can ping the IP address of the printer. All other computers on the network can print to the printer. There are no listings in the Event Logs. I have stopped a…

Hi everyone, I have a problem with connecting to internet by squid proxy server. While I'am trying to log in to proxy, after confirming the authorization the web isn't starting. It's just view a message: "Url could not be retrieved, access denied, contact to your proxy admin". I'm wondering is solution of the problem on terminal (maybe some application blocked some ports) or on proxy side (admin disabled access from this end-terminal). I especially turn this question to admins, please help.

I have received 4 DVD's (chess games). Two of these dvd's will work as soon as I close the dvd drive, the other two will not. I enter them into the drive and the green light always stays there. Once these dvds are in the drive I can not open any other program on the computer, it just jams. The only message I get is ' program not responding'. Are these faulty dvd's? -- Max de Winter

My computer connects perfectly to Outlook the first time I start the computer, but after logging out and logging back in again the computer gives me an error saying it can not connect to server. If another profile tries to get email, Outlook gives them the same error message. I can connect ONCE and from there on in I can not. My only option is to restart the computer EVERY time I want to access Outlook for my email. Any suggestions? -- kk

Helpsvc.exe 95% CPU
by Guest JustUs- 3 replies

HelpSvc takes up 95% of CPU usage. It seems to do it at its own will. Just started the past week or so. I found a KB for this problem @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933993, but it says it applies to Windows Server 2003. Will this also work for XP? The only ref I found for this with XP was to install the latest SP. I have all the updates. Thanks in advance for your solution.

Serious Win XP Home SP2 system recovery problem
by Guest sleeplessinnewjersey- 1 reply

Because of repeated errors I decided to reinstall Windows XP Home SP2 through a set of recovery CD's provided by the PC manufacturer. (I do not have a regular installation CD.) I backed up my My Documents folder to my external hard drive in a cut and paste operation in Windows Explorer that I have performed successfully in the past. I selected a so-called destructive recovery and, as expected, was warned that a full format would be conducted with the loss of all data. (I doubt that any such format occurred, but that's another issue.) I proceeded as in the past umpteen times I have had to use system recovery. I set about reinstalling and updating m…

Server 2003 slow to a crawl
by Guest d.barrow@virgin.net- 3 replies

The server was running fine until a week ago, but it's slowed to a disc-bound crawl. CPU time is 1-2%, Network activity is negligible, but the HDD is constantly in action. There have been no significant changes to the setup. Task manager shows no unusual activity. At the moment, no-one can even log in. Windows on the server take around 5 minutes to open up, so detective work is horribly slow. Is there a way to determine which process is driving the HDD activity? Ideas for where to look next...most welcome. Thanks

Reformat and Installed SP2. Runs good. Had backed up Favorites and imported them. But I can not open the Folder - Access denied. I am the only person owning and using this PC. When I installed SP2 or did it happened later, I made an error somewhere.. This is maybe the reason that I found in Windows Explorer under Doc & Sett the following: -Administrator -All Users -Default User -Jose\Favorites\FAVORITES (here I get access denied) -José\Favorites\ Here I see only URL which were not yet sorted to put in Favorites before the BU. Please notice the é. Both are the same person Also under José\Appl..\Start Menu\Progr..\Startup\Reminder.wps there…

Save Password in RDC icon and give to mulit users
by Guest Ferrell Ramey- 1 reply

I'd like to create a RDC icon that has the user name, password, and settings all saved in it and copy it to multiple user desktops, but when I do this and the user clicks on the icon it asks for their password. Any ideas? Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way? All users log into the terminal server with the exact same settings (e.g. user name, password, etc). I'd just like to push an icon to each of their desktops instead of going to each workstaion and creating it. By the way, is there a way to change the icon when you do a "save as" on the settings? It by default has the regular RDC icon, and in the properties I don't see the "change icon" set…
