Definition of User CALS
by Guest stewart- 1 reply

How does Microsoft define a user for the User CALS? We have about 250 Users. We have an additional 200 or so shared accounts; aka resource accounts (calendars, conference rooms, etc). Do we need 250 CALS for the 250 people accessing all the accounts? or do we need 450 CALS for each account that has access to the network? thanks

OT: RE MY FLAME !!!

Microsoft Media Center Edition owners ( or renters, as maybe is more legally correct to say here in free America ) are now at the mercy of yet another lunacy, people whom enjoy recording cable for personal use are required to purchase hard disk recording in place of inexpensive DVD recording media to be within the compliance of copyright law. Is government complex? What happens when my media center license expires, i'm s**T out of luck. Depends if copyright over rules the right of free speech, and to learn and study! Anyone eager to point me to internationally legal tools for cracking a personal use copy of My Friend Flicka, ( reply to mmarkaawwashb...@b…

Windows 2008 / Matrix Storage / RAID-5 Problem?
by Guest John Connett- 2 replies

I have been trying to install the Windows 2008 Server Enterprise Edition, Beta 3 onto a system containing a Supermicro PDSM4 motherboard (BIOS: R 1.1a) with four SATA disks. The system supplier is no longer in business. The BIOS is configured for Intel rather than the Adaptec controller code base and the BIOS utility creates and recognizes a four disk RAID-5 array. During installation I used a CD-ROM with the driver from Intel Matrix Storage (7.5.0.1017 6/4/2007). The file "iastor.inf" was selected. The installation ran to completion but when the system reboots it briefly flashes a blue screen then reboots again. A safe mode boot fails after displa…

Logon + Roaming Profile - Nearest Server
by Guest Chris- 1 reply

Hi, I have 1 x SBS2003 server + 2 x Server2003 servers SBS2003 - 192.168.0.2 Server02 - 192.168.1.2 Server03 - 192.168.2.2 These are linked together via VPN across the country. All servers are DCs so Active Directory is all there and up to date. Now, we'd like to setup roaming profiles so that when a user logs on at any site they get their roaming profile without it transferring from SBS2003 server (and hence taking ages to copy the profile). How do I setup roaming profiles so that each user can log on anywhere and their profile is copied from the 'nearest' server in geographic proximity? Thanks Chris

Saving files
by Guest une- 5 replies

I have access to a webpage that shows a list of links. Each link leads to a file that I want to save on my machine. The problem is that when I right click on the link and select "save target as", XP adds an extension to the filename when it saves it. For example one of the files is a script named countWords. When I right click on the link and select "save target as", XP saves this file as countWords.txt instead of countWords. How do I stop XP being so overly "helpful"? Thanks. -- A Human

RDP 6 logon problem
by Guest Jeff- 2 replies

Whenever my TS users logon to a server it fails due to the server login is automatically populating the Domain drop-down to the local machine. Then after the timeout period and a failed logon attempt they can change the Domain to our domain and then they can successfully login. It only happens when they login to my terminal server nodes (since RDP 6 won't connect to my virtual farm name, separate posting in this forum). Where do i force the logon to authenticate to domain login and stop the default local logon to the server? i am fairly new to this environment and not sure what policy to set to force logon to the domain.
