Re: .NET Framework I have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903) installed on my Win XP Home SP 2 Dell 8200 X 86 computer. But I do not have .NET 2.0 or .NET 3.0 installed. Is there any reason I should install either or both of them? (I'm not aware of any problems due to not having them installed.) Thanks, Milt

First of all Hi to everyone out there those who are willing to help and then Hi to all those who are reading this :) Well ..I have 3 computers at my home, I've installed Windows 2003 Server on the first one and the rest two have Windows 2000 PRO. I implemented the taskStation for a group of users who log-in their account in Windows 2000, I modified that policy a bit to show an HTML Page as the Desktop background. Unable to connect to XP PC using Terminal Services Manager
by Guest Adrian- 2 replies

I am trying to remotely control a Windows XP (SP2) using Terminal Services Manager from a Windows 2003 server. Although I can see the PC in Terminal Services Manager I get a message saying 'You could not be authentificated on this server'. I have changed the DWord for TSAdvertise and TSEnabled to 1, switched off the firewall and added myself to the local group of Remote Users. I can connect to it using the RDP client. We have 3 other XP machines that we can connect to via the Terminal Services Manager with no problem. Any advice most welcome. Adrian

Using Windows XP Pro as File Server - Losing Connections
by Guest Richard Hein- 3 replies

A small office is using a new Win XP Pro machine as a file server for 5 computers. Somehow, every week or so, people are losing connections with the server. One or more of the workstations are not releasing one of the 10 available licenses. I have set up a batch file to reboot the computer and reease the licenses. Is there a better way to do it than rebooting the server? Are there any other considerations when setting up the computer as a server?

OS freezes
by Guest Pete- 1 reply

The motherboard on my computer failed and I replaced it with an identical one and although the Windows loaded and worked ok it froze a couple of times a day and the only option was to use the restart button (Ctrl+Alt+Del did not work either). After about a week the OS refused to load with the message "Cannot find the following file or the file is corrupt: \Windows\System32\Config\System". At this point I decided that the installation damaged and did a clean install of XP Pro. Unfortunately, on the very first day of use (today) Windows froze and it looks like I am back to where I was. What could be causing these freeze ups - some hardware component? …

by Guest Woob- 1 reply

I have my computer set to check for updates everynight. The other day when I sat down at the computer I had the icon notifing me that an update was ready to install. I clicked on it to install and it went through the usual process. It said it was Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 Service Pack 3 (KB928367). I figured I was done but after a few minutes the update icon came back saying that an update was ready to install. I ran it and it turned out to be the same update again. This has happened several times. I tried rebooting right after the update was supposedly completed but when I was up and running again the same thing started ag…
