Installation Qualification for Win2K3?
by Guest Rowan Prior- 0 replies

Good day, I know that every environment is different but I am hoping someone here can provide some information. I have a need to move one of my Windows 2003 servers into an FDA regulated environment, and I need to create an Installation Qualification (I Q) for the hardware, operating system (Windows 2003 Std R2) and Citrix. Does anyone have documents that can assist me with this? Does Microsoft have anything that is in the public domain and can be used as a guideline? Thanks

Upgrading from 2003 standard to R2 - need DFS
by Guest Fox1977- 2 replies

Hi there, Can anyone help me with this problem. I have three Windows 2003 sp1 servers (2 x enterprise and 1 x standard) and I want to upgrade them to R2 as I want to be able to use DFS across them. I have contacted the software company we use and asked them how much it is for the upgrade to R2. As far as I am aware R2 comes on the second cd of the pack and I was thinking I could just run this on the servers and upgrade them. The software company said that there isn't an upgrade available. Anyone else done a similar thing? Is there an upgrade available to do this? Anyone any tips on how I can get DFS on these old servers? Thanks in advance

IIS / SMTP / Properties / Drop Directory Quota
by Guest Pizza Good- 0 replies

Hi, We had a problem with emails not being sent and we narrowed it down to the setting located in: IIS / SMTP / Properties / Enable Drop Directory Quota And that if enabled the Drop directory can only be 10 x max message size, we increased the max message size and all is well. What I cannot find is any info if we DISABLE the "Drop Directory Quota" option. What happens if we do that...are their any repercussions? Thanks.

Hi, I'm using the performance data helper library to write some performance counters to a log file but the only format available to me seems to be the CSV format. Is there a way I can have the log written in PERFMON format? ////// start code pdhStatus = PdhBrowseCounters(&pdhBrowseDialogConfigurationBlock); if (pdhStatus == ERROR_SUCCESS || pdhStatus == PDH_DIALOG_CANCELLED) { DWORD dwFlags = (PDH_LOG_WRITE_ACCESS | PDH_LOG_CREATE_ALWAYS); DWORD dwLogType = PDH_LOG_TYPE_CSV; // PDH_LOG_TYPE_PERFMON not supported? DWORD dwMaxSize = 0x20000000; // .5 GB? // PdhOpenLog returns ERROR_SUCCESS when log type is CSV // a…

Document generator

I use Keyform to generate special documents. However, I have to design the documents on a machine running Win 3.1 because the program has serious problems under Win98. Is there a similar program that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (just an arm is O.K.). and will run correctly under Win98? The minimum that I need is font selection, lines and boxes and extreme zoom. "Extreme zoom" refers to being able to magnify a 3 pt. font to a size that single letters can be grabbed by the mouse. Typical paint programs are out because they usually have rough looking lines and boxes. Thanks for any info. Jack --

using system restore to backtrack malware
by Guest shimmyhanna- 3 replies

I am trying to fix my father-in-laws computer that has been infested with malware and spyware. I have been scanning and cleaning it for the past 2 days and I havent made headway yet. Im wondering if I could just use the system restore to restore XP to its state prior to the malware infestation. He knows the general day it happened, so I wanted to restore to a day prior to that. Is that possible to get rid of the malware or will it still be in the system? Thanks

When I click on Start and point to Administrative Tools>Event Viewer, and click on Applications there are no Error messages; if I click on System there are neither Error messages nor Warraning messages. Thank you all for your help bringing this about. I do have an incongruency. When I click on Start and point to My Network Places one notebook conneted to my LAN is not displayed. When I click on View workgroup computers the notebook appears, and when I clicked on it's icon I was able to access the contents of each of the foldesr that were displayed. What could cause the notebook not to be displayed in My Network Places? -- KC

New hard drive keeps reinstalling
by Guest Tim Ogiela- 4 replies

I installed a hard drive in an external USB container. It installed fine. I then partationed and formatted the drive as NTFS. Which also completed successfully. While copying data to the drive, the copy process froze. When I restarted the computer, the drive was no longer visibly available. I unstalled the drive and let the system redetect the drive. At this point it appears to install correctly and then at the finish it says "An error occurred during the installation of the device The specified service does not exist as an installed service." When the process is finished, it starts detecting the drive all over and then comes back to this error message. …

Where are my Terminal Servers getting their licenses?
by Guest mleeser1@gmail.com- 4 replies

We have six 2003 SP1 terminal servers running the exact same config (installed from same image). When I run the TS licensing app on any of the servers it comes up looking for license server "dolphin" which is a server that has been shutdown and retired for about 5 months. In the TS configuration app it has server dolphin configured as the only license server. The question is, how are users still able to connect to these servers without any licensing problems? There are currently 20 - 50 users on each server and they have been working this way for 5 months without any issues. I want to get our licenses installed on a new server but I'm worried about breakin…

Greetings, I have 2 NT4 sp6a Servers. After installing a patch agent I noticed I was not longer able to get to the Internet on either machine. I got an error "The ordinal 437 could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll". I uninstalled the patch agent and I reinstalled IE6 w/sp1 but got two file missing or deleted errors. File names were Cryptdlg.dll and Crypttext.dll. I was able to finish the IE install and IE worked except for SSL sites. I have reinstalles SP6a high encryption to no avail. I need to get SSL working because we use a remote control agent to access these two machines and the agent wont install correctly until I fix this …

Hi, I have an XP client that was working fine, but now during the boot process it takes an extra few minutes to get past the "preparing network connections" component during start up. This machine is a domain memeber however this behaviour is occuring when it is connected to the domain LAN and when it's not connected. Any ideas? Thanks!
