I am running Windows XP Professional SP2. This morning I received the usual Windows Update Notification which had 5 or 6 items to update; all but one successfully updated, the one which would not was "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1". I had previously, 3 or 4 days ago, received an update notice to install "Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0" which I successfully installed. Not having any success after many attempts to install this latest "Microsoft ..Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1" I called Microsoft support for help. I was instructed to remove ALL .Net Framworks (1.1, 2 & 3 and all security upadates thereof) using the Add/Remove module in the…

Migrating Printers from 2000 Server
by Guest Adrian- 2 replies

All, Im trying to create a seamless printer migration from a Windows 2000 Server to a Windows 2003 64 bit Storage server. First off is this possible? to the extent that users wont notice anything or have to make any changes? Ive been trying to use the Print Migration tool 3.1 but it doesnt seem to work on the 2000 Server. I have also added the windows 2000 server in under Print Management in the 2003 server in the "hope" that I could switch the printers that way but no luck :/ (Wouldn't that be a very handy though if you could!!) Has anyone else tried successfully to migrate printers without the users knowing? Thanks

by Guest Okramo- 3 replies

Hi, I have Win2k3 server operating system with two partitions. I'am planing to make backup of all data which my server contains - there is about 25GB files. My plan is to use MS Backup tool, which stores all data in one *.bkf file. I suppose that tool will make *.bkf file large about 17-20 GB. Is that possible? What is the maximum size of *.bkf file? Thanks

When is XP ready to go

I am assisting a person who has XP and wants to know when the computer is ready to go - that the start up process is over. I thought that the icon arrow for the mouse might show when it is ready - as the hourglass changes to an arrow, but I am using Vista now and don't remember what XP does. Can I get help so I can answer this question? -- Gary Librarian

combining services

I usually split up services as much as possible but now the servers are getting more powerfull than strictly necessary for the job to do so I was thinking of using the file server as web server also, more specific as a sharepoint services server is this a smart thing to do or not? the service is strictly for LAN only so not exposed to the big bad internet it is a quad core Xeon with 4GB ram and windows 2003 standard 64 bit OS this for about 150 users in total thnx

Set resolution perminatly 1440x900

scenario: 19" widescreen monitor 4 port ps/2 kvm switch 1 comp duel boot kubuntu/windows xp problem: when windows loads up, it doesnt detect the monitor, im presuming this is because of the kvm switch, and will not go greater then 1386x800(or something similar). i need it to be able to tell it to use 1440 instead, no matter what windows thinks. i know that i am able to use 1440x900 through the kvm because kubuntu is working with it fine. i have tried installing the drivers 4 the monitor but it wont auto detect the correct driver, and forcing it to use the correct drivers only allows the 1386 resolution stated above. unplugging the kvm and plugging the …

The most likely cause is the laser or optical bloack as they are usually called, there are optic's inside the block as well to seperate the forward beam and the returned beam that has been modulated by the disc, also in the block is the focusing mechanism that moves the lens up and down and sideway's.... plenty to go wrong in them. At all cost avoid those cleaning disc with a brush fixe…

Overlapping DFS with DFRS problem
by Guest Anders- 0 replies

Hello, previously I had set up a FRS replication but after upgrading the servers to Win 2003 R2 I deleted the previous FRS namespace and targets in order to create a new DFRS replication scheme from scratch. The problem is that I cannot enable the DFRS replication as I end up with the following suggestion: "Fix this problem by not overlapping this replicated folder with an FRS replica set. That is, do not replicate the same local path using DFS Replication and FRS." In other words the previous FRS replication stills seems to be in the system but I did delete it from the DFS console so how am I supposed to really get rid of the remaning FRS settings?

Software Restriction Policies and Symantec Antivirus

Hello, I recently implemented SRPs in my Windows network, thoroughly testing many things before deployment. So, after deploying SRPs everything works fine: allowed programs start, disallowed programs don't. However, I have problem with Symantec AntiVirus 10.x clients - they appear like their Auto Protect is disabled (SAV yellow shield icon is in red circle), but SAV client software itself is running, i.e. I see yellow shield icon in the task tray, I can double click it, SAV client opens, I can run scans etc etc. Before deploying SRPs SAV worked fine without trouble. SRPs config is set to default, appart from that I am exclusively allowing to run all…
