Highly Available VPN server
by Guest LSI- 0 replies

I've been tasked with replacing our W2K RRAS-based VPN server, and rather than just do a simple hardware swap-out, I'd like to introduce high availability in whatever solution I use. This solution could be as simple as providing two different vpn servers, or as complex as a cluster/NLB solution, but I want it to be transparent to the end user. In other words, I want them to be able to double-click a single desktop icon to connect, rather than, "if this one doesn't connect, use the other one." Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Log In Window
by Guest JJBanks- 5 replies

Everytime I re-boot I get a pop up window asking me to log in. I just hit enter and the re-boot continues. This is annoying. I know others with XP Professional who do not have this "problem". Is there a protocol I need to delete? Perhaps NetWare? Thanks, Jerry

Modify the amount of time that a user/PC holds onto a TS license?
by Guest Glamprecht- 1 reply

From what I can see, when a device or a user grabs a license from the Terminal server, there is a random time set on that license as to when it expires and is released back into the pool. Assuming that this is so..Can I shorten the time that is assigned to the license so that the license is returned to the pool quicker? We have lots of user that might remote into our terminal server once or twice per year and yet even if they are not using that license, they continue to hold onto them until that preset time is up. 52 to 89 days...... Can I shorten this to 24 hours or 7 days??????

HI All, This is a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server SP2 and it is connected to our SAN. It can see over 30 disks. The event log shows: Event Type: Error Event Source: Disk Event Category: None Event ID: 11 Date: 7/6/2007 Time: 4:40:44 PM User: N/A Computer: DATASERVER Description: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2. According to KB 923356 the drive number is truncated at the first number. So \Device\Harddisk2. could be 2 or 20-29. We get this error over and over but cannot tell which disk it is because of the truncation.…

Get Terminal Client PC Name - WMI
by Guest Dan- 4 replies

Hi everyone, We are looking for a way to have the server get the client PC name from the terminal session (the PC connecting thorough Remote Desktop). Can anyone help me with a WMI Filter for this? We have set up a policy so that when the user starts a new terminal session 1 of 2 things happen. They see the full desktop or they see an application that automatically loads up. This is dependant on the computer the user is calling in with from Remote Desktop. Thanks

Hi, I always thought there should be a very good reason for this not being actual in Windows, but maybe there isnt none, indeed: + to be able to use arrow keys to move the mouse cursor. ++ u could have a key to ignite it and the number of clicks on the key before holding it to set the speed of that movement. +++ com'on move. BSOD solved after 6 months - ram fault
by Guest dick- 1 reply

I was getting BSOD up to three times a day for the last 6 months. Tried micosofts memory check program, drwatson, dump files, looked for faulty drivers every day, etc. Finally gave up and bought a cheap pc that worked fine....until I decided to increase its ram by using the ram from the old machine....then got regular BSOD again. Chucked out the ram and everything was fine again. This ram could be tested for hours without fault using the microsoft memory check program....but since confining it to the rubbish bin my new pc is ok. The old failing pc is humming along nicely now it has been fitted with a new ram chip. Hope this experience helps someone …

by Guest Sanjeev Sharma- 3 replies

I have rather two questions. First, where do I query technical stuff like this(Q on Subject) about WIndows? And second the question itself. I need to get handle for the taskbar but I don't know its window name so as to use 'FindWindow'. Anyother way? The code may be specific to WinXP and may be coded in VB or C++.

point32.exe, a magnifier, intermittently pops up
by Guest Richard- 6 replies

>From time to time, I suddenly have a magnifier pop up. I've found it intrusive, at best. Finally, I discovered that point32.exe is the culprit and I was able to kill it in Task Manager. Does anyone know an easy way to prevent it from being launched in the first place? (it must be some keystrokes or mouse clicks that inadvertently brings it up.) I'm running WinXP/SP2.

Spyware Creating tmp files, ie Win1.tmp Win2.tmp

Running WindowsXP-Pro SP2 and all updates. My son's computer has something running that I can't figure it out. In the tmp directory, the files Winx.tmp gets created where "x" can be any digit. It starts as "1" and increments forever. I've had over 2000 files that I deleted. Win1.tmp Win2.tmp Win3.tmp ...... Win2066.tmp .... Each file shows up as 0 kbs and when I open them... they are empty. What I've done: Ran Norton SystemWorks / Antivirus and deleted all known issues. Ran SpyBot and have cleaned out all known issues. Ensured that HKLM-Run & HKCU-Run is cleaned (stripped) to a minimum that I know is required. Deleted all tmp folders and web t…

Indexing Service for Power Users in WinXP ?

Is it possible to allow Power Users to use the Indexing Service in Windows XP? Power Users can enable the service, but when you launch the Indexing Service via ciadv.msc as a Power User, you can't do much of anything (add catalog, add directories, etc) by default. Any ideas?
