localgroup add - language independent
by Guest fiversen- 0 replies

Hello, in my installation process of my programm, sometimes I need a new user. A user which is member of 'Power User'. In the script, I create the user > net user Tester Password /add and add the user to 'Power User' >net localgroup "Power User" Tester /add This is OK. But I need this on a lot of different Windows Languages, and the groups have different names - in Germany: Hauptbenutzer, ..... With the API function - NetLocalGroupAddMembers(..., ...) I have the same problem. I saw, in a ADs example - they also work the name 'Administrators'. But I need language independent localgroup-names. So long Frank Iversen

by Guest Jocky Mac- 0 replies

I have a service to run an application. The service actually just uses srvany.exe to launch an application. Once it has done this the service stops leaving the application running. The service runs under a local userid. Normally, the service starts and a registry hive for the user is loaded under HKEY_USERS. When the service stops, the hive remains. One one machine, however, when the service stops the hive disappears. Does anyone know why?

Hi, I am trying to install a font on my server. When I attempt to install the font I recieve the following message. The 3OF9.TTF file is currently being used and cannot be replaced. Wait until Windows is finished using the file, and then try again. I have no applications on the machine. I got to the fonts folder where I am trying to copy the file and there is no 3OF9.TTF font in the folder. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve -- Steve Systems Administrator PSI

trying to install software on terminal server security settings
by Guest icccapital- 0 replies

We have purchased software and are trying to get it running on our terminal server for remote use. It runs fine under the administrator login but we are having trouble with other user logins. The software has some settings that they say need to be set, one of which is the local policy in "User Rights Assignment". I added the user to this policy under the properties of the computer in the AD under the gpo, but to no success. So I then started gpedit.msc, but in here the security settings|local policy|User Rights Assignment has a lock next to it and I can't change the same policy setting to include this user. I guess I am trying to figure out which p…

Drive 0 in mirror failed
by Guest Graham Coffer- 1 reply

Hello folks. Hope everyone is well. We are running win2003 standard SP1 with 2 x 36gb SCSI dynamic mirrored disks. Both the system C: and data D: paritions are mirrored over both disks, which was done using the disk management mmc. The primary drive, Drive 0 has now failed. (online, errors is the status but the system wont boot to it) We are having to boot to the "secondary plex" option from the startup menu. Can anyone tell me the procedure to use in order to replace the failed primary drive? If it was the mirrored disk I would just break the mirror and replace the drive but I have a feeling it's more complex than that as it's drive 0 thats failed. an…

Hi, I am on Windows XP but the original drive was full (40G) so move everything into a new drive which is 250G. However, cannot find anywhere which I would activate the partition as a boot partition. I have done the image restore on a partition of 200G then scrapped it and set it to 40G but still cannot find anywher which I would activate the partition. It can be seem as slave but when I tried to boot up from it, the system cannot find the drive. I have gone into bios for the settings which originally set the 40G drive as IDE-0 but it doesn't matter what I change the IDE to (ide-1, ide-2), it always boot from the original drive. Any idea ? Using Windows-XP-SP2 Netscape 7.2 I just noticed on my task bar (near the clock time) there is a box that looks like 2 monitor screens with a RED X on it, when I put my mouse on it, says "Local Area Connection A Network Cable is Unplugged, but when I click on it comes up under Network Connections --dial up--Bellsouth with a check mark in it. the other one says --Lan or High Speed Internet-under that is Local Area Connection, with the RED X I do have Dial-up, so what is the other one how do I get rid of it so it doesn't come up again Thanks for any help

by Guest warhonowicz- 5 replies

In the last few days my PC has started to display a strange habit. When I start certain programs (notepad or even task manager), they open and on the first move of the mouse close down immediately without me being able to use them. Has anyone seen this before? I use Panda 2007 antivirus with the latest updates and that says my PC is fine.

Terminal Services allows access, But not allowed at Console.
by Guest AndyH- 0 replies

I can open a terminal services session to a Windows Server 2003. Then from that session I can log into the file system on another Server 2000. No problem. However if I use the console of the Server 2003 directly, and attempt to log into the Server 2000 it fails with invalid login attempt. Both theses servers are on the same domain, and report to a third Server 2003 as the domain controller / active directory. Any idea why access is authenticated through terminal services, but blocked when direct access is attempted? Regards, Andyh
