No taskbar button when programme is minimised
by Guest Lindiloo- 3 replies

Please help. Whenever I minimise a programme the button does not appear on the taskbar. It appears to be minimising but then disappears. When I open the task manager the programme is still running so I have to open the task manager instead of clicking on the button on the task bar to reopen the window. This has only happened recently. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks

by Guest Sanjeev Sharma- 0 replies

I have rather two questions. First, where do I query technical stuff like this(Q on Subject) about WIndows? And second the question itself. I need to get handle for the taskbar but I don't know its window name so as to use 'FindWindow'. Anyother way? The code may be specific to WinXP and may be coded in VB or C++.

Disk requirements of next version of Windows Server
by Guest Tom Del Rosso- 10 replies

Any idea how big the next version of Windows Server is going to be, so newly installed boot partitions can accommodate an upgrade later? (I'm thinking about a partition without a pagefile.) -- Reply in group, but if emailing add another zero, and remove the last word.

Got a MAJOR combination of problems. Running XP Service Pack 2 #1 My Installer is trashed I have done everything imaginable short of a hammer to fix it. I have run every Microsoft fix available. I have run a dozen others as well. I have run registry cleaners up the ying yang. I get several different error numbers. The most consistent is #1721. I have renamed all the msi files. They have been reinstalled. The new ones are broken as well. I've tried installing the Installer 3.1 with no change. I've read that you cannot really install 3.1 if you have service pack 2 installed. #2 I cannot UNINSTALL anything, therefore I cannot unistall/re-install servic…

I am trying to work around a temporary situation on a Windows 2003 server where group policy was misapplied. NETWORK SERVICE and LOCAL SERVICE accounts no longer have impersonate privileges and start service privilege so I need to temporarily start up services in security context of SYSTEM, get group policy working, then patch up services to run in their original contexts. I have done this before we success, but this time I'm thrown for a loop by DNS Client service, which is not able to start in NETWORK SERVICE security context. In the registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache there are two values: I…

PowerToys » PowerToy Calc - Somethin' Weird
by Guest Crazy Horse- 1 reply

I'm trying to figure out if my mind is playing tricks on me. I've been using PowerToy Calc for quite some time now. But today, when I opened it, I noticed a blue color scheme that I'm almost certain was never there before. I can't figure out how this could possibly be the case, since I have not updated or reinstalled this applet. I could be losin' my marbles on this one ... or there could be some other explanation that I have no clue about. Any feedback would be appreciated... even if it's "ur, uh, yeah... you *are* losin' your marbles on this one!" Thanks. -- _______ -CH ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Problem with services not starting on reboot
by Guest Burleyman- 5 replies

I have a few services COM+ System Application,Task Scheduler, and Distributed Transaction Coordinator, that I have set to Automatic but when the server gets reboot they reset themselves to disabled. I can then manually change them back to automatic and then start them and the work fine but then when I reboot the server back they go. Nothing in the event logs that point to anything to check. Has anyone had this happen? Where should I begin? This seems to have started after upgrading Sharepoint to SP2. -- Thank you, Burleyman Have a great day!

computer getting really slow
by Guest Tolstoy- 2 replies

My first post to this group, hope I'm in the right place and if not please direct me to the appropriate newsgroup. I've had this Toshiba Satellite A15S129 laptop for a few years now. It runs on WinXP. I use it at wifi spots around town, cafes and libraries and the like. It has antivirus and anti-spyware programs, up to date. Lately this laptop runs very slow. I really notice it in the Network Connections function. Network Connections works okay right after the computer boots, but if I have to use it more than once, it hangs. It seems like the misbehavior started when I tried to update Webroot Spy Sweeper, so I uninstalled it. The computer acts just the same…

Logging off problems
by Guest astrodog19- 1 reply

hey all. I am having trouble with logging off the user names on my desktop. This all started last week when I upgraded to Internet Explorer 7. What happens is that I go to Start, Log Off, and then hit Log off. But the computer doesn't do anything. I took it to my local computer repair shop and they told me it was fixed. When it came back tonight, I was able to log off from the start menu only once. In order for me to log off, I have to go through the Task Manager. What is wrong? My computer is 7 years old and running Windows XP Professional SP2. Please help. -- -astrodog19
