I don't know what the green bar at the bottom of the screen that shows your progress is called. My problem is that all of a sudden yesterday, it disappeared. I haven't changed anything & it worked all these years. I can't find how to get it back. Another weird thing happened. I have been on a message board for months. I never new the avatars & smilies moved. Yesterday all of a sudden they started being animated. What would make them work? Did something somehow get changed so now ai can see them move but lost my green bar?? I need to know my progress status. Thanks.

Both CD
by Guest davegb- 7 replies

I tried to update the drivers for my CD players (one a burner). When I tried to install the new HP driver for the first one, it deleted both drives! I came here and found a download called CDgone, but it didn't help. Any ideas on how to get my CD drives back? The Device Manager doesn't show them either, but shows no problems with the controllers. I haven't a clue! Thanks in advance!

Chinese character show as ??
by Guest JZ- 0 replies

Greeting, I have XP Pro SP2 and text editor TextPad installed on two computers. I enter some Chinese characters in a TextPad on one computer, it looked good. But when I Save it, all text became question marks. I suspect it is not saved as ANSI code, therefore after Save, the text changed to ?????. Yet on the other computer, it works just fine. I verified the settings on Regional and Languages on both PC, both have Asian Language Pack installed and Non-Unicode set to Chinese. This also happens to my programming IDE, Delphi 7. When I save Chinese Characters in D7, I can see on the 'correct" computer a character was saved as 5-digt number, on the "wrong…

by Guest markm75- 0 replies

Lets say you have a shortcut which points to an old document that was on an old server which doesnt exist... If you do certain things, like try to use the start menu.. it will sit there cranking for about 60 seconds or so. Is there somewhere in GPO either server or client that this "network timeout" value could be reduced? I'm not even sure what entry or option this would be... Anyone ever done this before? Thanks

What is locking ntuser.dat
by Guest HDI- 7 replies

Hi, Sometimes this file is used (locked) by an another process so when you log on you will get a temporary profile. On each instance where a temporary profile has been used, there are four successive USERENV errors: 1508 "Windows was unable to load the registry..." 1502 "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile..." 1515 "Windows has backed up the user's profile...." 1511 "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile...." When I reboot the problem is solved but I hope there is another solution. Anyone? What is locking this file? When I see in open files under shared folders there is nothing. Can I look some…

Compatible printers for RDP clients
by Guest Bryan- 1 reply

I have a windows 2003 server running terminal services in application mode. I am having trouble finding printers for my RDP clients. Most of the client OS' are WinXP or Win2k. I am very familiar with printer driver mapping (KB 239088) and the various workarounds for port problems such as the solution in KB 302361 or sharing the client printer and mapping an LPT port to the local printer. I'm also aware that PDL based printers work better than host based printers, and am aware about the "fallback printer driver" group policy. I favor HP printers. However, I'm finding that many personal printers and even some workgroup category printers are not compati…
