Install error message: Not enough space on D
by Guest Satish Gupta- 3 replies

When installing Windows 98 SE using the original CD ROM, I get his message: Not enough space on D To install Win 98 on drive C, you need 21 mb of space on D. D has only 1.4 mb To take care of this problem, please remove some files from hard drive. Hard drive is drive C. How would that free up space on D? Actually, there is no drive D, unless it is some sort of virtual drive. When partitioning the hard drive, I put everything in C. In other words, i did not create two partitions on the hard drive. Is that not acceptable and causing the problem? Thanks Satish

Sysvol not replicating, AD not failing over
by Guest swobopio- 3 replies

I have put in a new Domain Controller (newDC) into our network but are having problems with the old Domain Controller (oldDC) replicating sysvol to newDC. The ultimate goal that I'm trying to achieve here is to be able to shut down oldDC and have newDC take over (eventually having oldDC only as a backup). As of right now, the issue lies when I shut down oldDC I start to run into problems with the active directory (such as not being able to edit any users info, it just hangs for a few seconds as if it's still trying to talk to oldDC). ---------------------- Event Viewer Logs: ---------------------- On newDC, I only get two errors (but I think the probl…

Win98 RD client no longer able to connect to XP Pro
by Guest Karlof- 9 replies

I have a client that has a WINDOWS 98SE Laptop. He has been using the laptop for years to connect to a handful of XP Pro computers using the Win98 RD Client. Suddenly he is getting the message "The client could not connect to the remote computer ..." on about 50% of the computers he tries to connect to. These are computers that he was previously able to connect with. If I try to connect to these unreachable machines using an XP box I am able to make the connection. Nothing has changed on his end, and the connections are actually saved as shortcuts (I have tried re-creating them on the fly, but this didn't help). Has some windows update occurred on the remo…

Very STRANGE activation problem
by Guest C.Joseph Drayton- 0 replies

Hi All, This problem may seem simple, but please read the entire article before you respond since the problem is a little more complex than it might first appear. I have a dv8000z laptop. It came pre-installed with WindowsXP[sp2]. Being OEM, it came pre-activated. I have been using the machine for about 10 months with no problems or need to re-install. I have been playing with Linux for a couple of weeks and found that I can run VMPlayer under Linux. Now here is where it gets complicated. I created a VM that uses the EXISTING install of WindowsXP. This is important. I am NOT installing a second copy of WindowsXP. I start up the VM and everyth…

Remote Desktop vs Terminal Services

H Guys, brand new install, Server 2003 (x32). SO OK, I put together this nice new Windows Server 2003 (x32), join it to the domain, and enable TS. I then connect to it remotely as Administrator, all's well. So let's take the KB/mouse off and run her headless, move her into the server room. Apps are installed as Admin, all is well. Go for it guys, use it. 'The policy of this system does not allow you to logon interactively', HUH? Even though Terminal Services is installed the server is acting like 'Remote Desktop', 2 sessions and Admins only. I've just been in (remote) and removed the tick from the TS win component, used Petri notes to enable R…

I have gone to Windows Explorer and Folder Options both and checked show hidden files, but I still can't see hidden files/folders in Windows Explorer. If I use a third party program like FreeCommander, I can see the hidden stuff just fine. Perplexed, Dan -- ---------- Madness takes its toll. Please have exact change. ----------

I have an HP Ultrium 2 tape drive that shows up in the device manager but is missing from the removable storage libraries, and therefore missing from NT Backup. This is on Server 2003 SP2. Is there a way to troubleshoot/repair the RSM so it shows up? - The tape device is properly recognized at boot, and properly recogized it SCSI ID is changed. - The drive passes all the tests with HP Tape Tools

Systray icons won't do what I say
by Guest wdk- 4 replies

I'm running on a wireless network, so I don't need to know that my net cable is unplugged. Neither do I want the windows wireless icon, because it don't work rite half the time anyway. I do want my Broadcom icon, because it tells me the truth, and I also want to ALWAYS see my battery icon, even when the power is plugged in, so I can see when it's charged up. So, I right click on the taskbar, go to properties, customize, and pick Always Hide, or Always show, as the case may be, Apply, OK. Next time I boot up, it goes back like it was!!!!

Xp Pro won't boot, event 7001, 7026 messages. System drivers refuse to load. Hubby driving me nuts. Hi, I hope some one can help me get my husband's computer running or he's going to drive me nuts on the holiday. Xp pro w/service pack 2. Windows One Care, no third party AV or firewall. Automatic updates are on. He shut it off about 10 pm last night, turns on about 7pm today Windows hangs just after the boot screen (default). He's not into tweaking and installed Encyclopedia Britannica a few days ago. Windows one care did some updates yesterday about 2pm. I got it to boot to safe mode a few times, here's what I'm getting from the event monitor: Event …
