(OT?) Outlook 2007 in 64-bit Vista
by Guest BP- 1 reply

I run Vista Home Premium (64-bit version) on my computer. I'm the Administrator, but my wife and I have user accounts. We also have Office Professional on it. On occasion my wife accesses her email from my computer rather then hers. Yesterday when she tried to access it, Outlook loaded but she also got a message that Office had to be setup for her an the install program had to run?? Any ideas what's up and how to fix it? Microsoft has an installer cleanup utility, but they say not to run it with Office 12007 products. Also, The type in the dialog boxes in Outlook is so large that the text (and options) are cut off. Any Idea how to restore the default te…

Bootup - Shutdown logger 1 2 3 4
by Guest PSRumbagh- 75 replies

I would like to produce a (text) file that shows when (date & time) bootup is completed and when shutdown is initiated. The file needs to append itself everytime bootup and shutdown occurs, i.e the file grows bigger with time. For example, over a year period the file will probably have many hundreds of entries in it. The program must NOT delete previous entries. Any suggestions?

Macromedia Flash
by Guest someone- 2 replies

After some inactivity on my Windows XP Pro, instead of the screen saver, I get a dark screen, with the message: "Could not find Macromedia Flash." OK. For some reason, I didn't have it any more. Maybe SP3. So I downloaded it, but I still get the same message.

Win.ini

Discovered an application's (PMI) tails left over from long ago when supposedly it had been deleted. I'm hesitant to play here because they aren't concise yet I'm fairly certain they're all together. Know what happens with "assume" also. Originally, the application was geared to start on boot up. If I wanted to gamble, how would I edit the ini file? Only reason to is if it's being read. If it's being ignored, eh, so what. Thinking it might be part of other ills here I'm hunting. Windows XP SP2

I've got a sealed, original Win98 CD, manual, etc. I give up on WinXP, too slow, and more importantly lost features I liked in Win98. So, in abandoning WinXP and installing Win98.... Where do I get a complete set of the really necessary updates? Robert

Problem creating User account
by Guest Jackpine- 7 replies

As the computer administrator on my PC, I created a new limited User account. However, when I tried to open up this new account, I got a small window saying Personal Settings. Setting up Internet settings. (Or words to that effect.) An hourglass appeared. This continued for about 5 minutes with no change. I then rebooted the PC and tried to open the new account again, with the same result. Can someone explain why the new account will not set up properly? Thank you. --

I have the shield by my clock which says "updates are ready for your computer". Clicked on it and eventually it said it was for SP3. I canceled out all the panels and now I still have the shield saying I have updates. I'd rather not have SP3 (had d/ld a few months ago and was lucky in that it found errors and didn't take), so how can I get rid of this shield?

Norton removed trojan but not before screensaver destroyed. No screensaver tab left in Display. Windows XP keeps searching for screensaver and crashes with multiple blue screen stops. Can avoid by manually sending system into standby and avoiding screensaver mechanism. But how to repair? -- cicero1

How do I change drive letters?
by Guest Moonbarker Osbourne- 3 replies

This mornin', I made a mistake that caused my system to see my usual USB connected external hard drive as the same letter as when I have my camera's SD card plugged into my printer. I've already gone through the pain in the tail of chagin' ev'rything so that all my programs look for "G" instead of "F" when they look for somethin' on the external HD. For future reference, if the external drive letter gets changed by my system again, how do I change it back to what I want it to be?

by Guest avat- 1 reply

I am working through a router with one main computer, a wireless laptop, and a second desktop computer. When everything is plugged in, the second desktop computer (which runs Windows XP Home Edition) shows it is connected to the Internet, but when running a browser (in this case Internet Explorer) I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error. I've tried to run an "ipconfig" through the command prompt and I get this error: Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: the request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional information: Unable to query host name. I followed the instructions i…

Re: Lost "current date" from taskbar Hi, got the same problem. Advice below does not help. In addition to the clock, I also have the name of the day in the taskbar - can't get rid of it. I don't need it, but I NEED the date! I have no third party software for this task, just basic XP Pro. "Ramesh, MS-MVP" wrote: > Bob, > > Right-click the Taskbar and uncheck Lock the Taskbar option.
