Licensing and Hyper-v
by Guest Glenn Clark- 1 reply

I need to install 4 separate servers on a network,1 running exchange. I am trying to understand the licensing for 2008 standard server 64 bit with hyper-v. Would I be right in saying if I bought 1 big machine and put 64 bit 2008 standard server on it with 25 users, I can then run 3 instances using hyper-v without buying another version of 2008 for 25 users. Thanks Glenn

Everything Hangs When Accessing Tracking.log in System Volume Information Folder
by Guest Charles Law- 0 replies

I have Googled extensively for help on this, but although there are many, many reports of this problem, none of the solutions work for me, and no one has offered an explanation for the problem. All was well with my recently re-installed Windows XP SP3 set-up. I used Acronis Disk Director 10 to move some partitions around and resize them. Later, when I rebooted, all seemed fine, but when I started Disk Director again it hung on one drive. I left it for a while (10 minutes) and noticed that it had moved to another drive and hung there. Eventually, having left it for an hour or more, it showed the GUI, but doing anything with the problem drives caused another hang…

I just installed a fresh 2003 R2 OS on a new server but I didn't catch the sizing of the boot © drive. It is 12GB but I want it to be much larger. I haven't done anything with the remaining disk space. Is there anything I can do without re-installing the OS? Thanks. David

Globetrooting friend left me his Sony VAIO VGN-S4XP/B to look at. Original problem was virus infection obtained whislt in USA Whislt there he used an online "fixit" service (ctrlcentre ?) to help him remove virus but in doing so this "messed" up his laptop. I don't know full story but I received PC in condition whereby XP (Pro) would load with various windows open (CP etc) but no touchpad mouse nor USB port functionality. Also had great difficulty navigatiing with Keyboard to effect any repair. Friend had no software (recovery or otherwise) with him so bit stumped. Decided in the end to try and repair using my own copy of XP Pro No real issue…

Windows Logon Help
by Guest Wayne- 3 replies

Ok, so i ran the windows installation disc on a new hard drive. I installed a new version of windows XP pro and go to where it asks to create user accounts. I clicked 'skip this step'. Upon bootup, it went to the windows logon screen asking for a password for windows with the Administrator account. I figured leaving it blank would work, no. Nor does any other possible default password I could think of. Come to find out, there is no default password for windows? Isn't this a catch-22? How am I supposed to log onto windows when I didn't even create user accounts? I don't have an option for boot in safe mode either. There is only F1 option for setup. …

Terminal Server - Disaster Recover
by Guest SJMP- 3 replies

I am setting up my off-site disaster recovery terminal server. 1 - Is there anyway to migrate profiles from the production server? Or just copy and paste them when everyone is logged off? 2 - Licensing - I have licenses for my current server. How can I get those licenses installed on the DR Terminal Server (non-active) until I have to activate them? I am hoping that I dont have to put in a call to Microsoft if I needed to activate this server in an emergency. Thanks in advance! SJMP

I have a windows server 2003 that was upgraded from windows 2000. Update MS07-055 fails everytime I try to apply the patch. I found the workaround details which state to uninstall the Kodak Image viewer and this is what I have discovered. Imaging is not listed in add\remove programs or components. I browsed to the inf folder, located the Sysoc.inf file but did not find the following line to remove hide. imagevue=ockodak.dll,ImagingOcEntry,imagevue.inf,hide,7 I have all of the following files and kodakimg.exe opens properly. %Systemroot%t\System32\Oieng400.dll %ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\Imagevue\Kodakimg.exe %ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessori…

Mapped Drive vs Actual Drive - Access issues
by Guest PDCCnet- 4 replies

Okay, this is pretty convoluted but I'll try to be clear. I have a share that exists on a Windows 2003. We'll call it "Folder1". I have an Access database in that share so multiple users can get to it. If a user happens to be connected to their TS session, they can navigate to the actual file on the "local" TS volume (drive D: in the TS session). Some users need to get to the database via a TS session; others can access it via the share. Because the database is a front-end/back-end structure, the drive paths have to be the same for both kinds of users. So, on the users' local desktops, I have mapped "Folder1" to drive M:. I have done the same inside th…
