hi im using a laptop with a processor (2GHz) and (2Gb) of RAM system: Windows Xp pro SP2, 2002 edition, updated to SP3 >>> MY PROBLEM is: I need to work on many programs that need memory, such as MS-Office Word ( with a document over 40 pages with pictures), Autocad-2009, MATLAB-R2007a(mathematical program), ANSYS11 (for finite elements analysis for engineering). those programs eat the RAM, and sometimes i need to work on more than 3 programs at once. by Guest Tom M- 6 replies

I have been asked to setup a vpn on one of my servers. I have a dual nic on my dc with one port assigned to the lan and the other port assigned to a public ip. I setup the vpn on the public port and turned on the static filtering. It works fine but I have serious concerns about an unfirewalled nic with a public address on my dc. Can anyone comment on the security problems with this and recommend a firewall that works well for them? -- Tom M

Need help on Shadow Copy and TCP/IP or MSDE 2000 conflict
by Guest Phil Madren- 0 replies

Just installed a program called TimeClock Plus which uses the MSDE 2000 function and also it has to have a com port in the TCP/IP area. Default is 1430 but we had to use 1555 because there default settings uses 1430 and this caused the database on the TimeClock plus program not to work. Shadow copy will not run when the TimeClock SQL manager is running. If I stop the SQL server program and run the Shadow Copy again it works. I need some help on this. I called Time Clock Plus and they had me change the ports from 1555 to a few others but this has not worked. I also have heard if I set the loop back in the firewall settings this will fix the problem. I cannot…

by Guest Dave- 10 replies

Started up winxp sp2 and got message "error loading operating system". It was previously shut down automatically while I wasn't there. Used bartpe and found nothing on the c (system) drive. File system shows raw with no space and nothing used. The other partition on the same physical drive is fine. The only thing I can see to do is error check the C drive but I doubt this will do anything. Any ideas? Thanks.

WFW - Folder Permissions
by Guest JohnB- 5 replies

How do you setup the folder permissions to NOT prompt for a username/password, in a workgroup? I have a folder that will contain shared, non-confidential files. I know that if the username/password on the PC and the server match, you don't get prompted. But some of the accounts here don't match, and I don't want to go to the trouble of making the passwords match. Is there a way to do this, when the usernames/passwords don't match, and I don't get the login credentials prompt? TIA

I saw on a laptop with Windows XP a blue dragon theme that had features like a MAC...There were live blue flames behind everything and if you click on the "start tab, it would raise and a blue dragon would be sitting on top of the menu. Also, the tabs were on the top and only visible when you put the mouse towards the top of the screen. Does anyone know what theme this is?

Problem with roaming profiles
by Guest Gorge Lucas- 7 replies

Hi, I have a customer who has a roaming profile. This is setup excatly like all my other customers. What happens is the server goes offline for 1-3 seconds for no apparent reason and syncing occurs. When this happens, they lose all their icons on the desktop, quicklaunch etc. This is a SBS 2003 R2 server. There is nothing wrong with the server from what I can see. It's not going down at all. Any ideas?

CD burner question
by Guest SSJ04 Mewtwo- 2 replies

I have an older HP CD writer which was purchased back when I was running ME back in 2001. Question, I see in device manager that the device is working properly, but I want to know if I've got just a second CD-ROM or if I can still burn. I've tried going to HP's site, but for some reason you have to buy that driver instead of downloading it like I did for my printer and scanner. Even went as far as to calling them, but they had wanted us to purchase it through the website.
