I am running XP.....and have Office 2003 installed on my laptop. I got an auto update for Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3). I've tried several times to download it, but with no success. In trying to integrate sp3 into the same directory into which I copied my XP cd, I get an error msg. that says: failed to copy some or all the files. A: check that no network or copy errors occurred. And, B: Format of destination is correct etc. The folders are both on a ntfs drive. (If that's what b): means). I'm using the instructions found at: > http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/Slipstreaming_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3.html Can someone figure out the error of my ways, from the above info.? I'm trying to make a slipstreamed XP boot cd. TIA -- Semper Fi

"bad pool headers"
by Guest Kahless- 2 replies

ThsnksMy son is getting the blue screen of death with the error message "bad pool headers". He is in the Air Force and left me a voicemail about his pc. The cause appears to be that he click on one of those scams to have your pc scanned by AntivirusXP. After the 2300 viruses it found, that his Kaspersky did not, it wanted a credit card to continue. He clicked cancel and the BSOD cycle started. When the pc reboots, he is already logged in as the same user. Where can I find information to fix the "bad pool headers" error?

People, I'm experimenting with using Server 2008 as a workstation. What I'd like is to get the behaviour of the desktop the same as Vista. I've got the Desktop experience, Vista Theme and Areo Glass working. However Vista also animates window minimises and restores anyone know how I turn that on? I'm also missing the sidebar but I don't think that it is in server installs so that isn't going to be easy. -- Anthony Jones - MVP ASP/ASP.NET

W2k3 - clearing space in C:\

Can I safely remove any of the following (after backing up to D:\): C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles (689Mbyte) C:\WINDOWS\DriverCache (114Mbyte) Also, I note that the .mdb file in C:WINDOWS\ntfrs\jet is 200Mbyte. Can this database be reinitialised? Cant believe we need this much history in an isolated .local domain with 2 servers and 40 workstations, which does not use DFS for data file shares. -- Regards, Newell White

File associations
by Guest Trevor Smith- 2 replies

Hi All, I've rebuilt my pc and now have trouble with two file types, when double clicking files in explorer. The files have .sch and .pcb extensions, from my printed circuit board design program. I've changed the "OPEN WITH" to show the correct program but in explorer it still thinks they are "Microsoft Schedule+ Application" files. If I right click on the files and check the properties, it shows the correct program. When I double click, the correct program opens OK, but no file is present. I can use "open" from the program OK, but I'd prefer to work from explorer normally. Any ideas please ? -- Trevor Smith

Hidden file and folders are not displayed
by Guest Talib- 21 replies

Hi All, I've faced this problem many times wherein I am unable to view hidden files and folders instead of enabling the 'Show hidden files and folers' option in folder options on tools menu. I even tried editing the registry settings but it reverts back to the 'Do not show hidden files and folders' settings. I know this situation is caused by a virus. But even after a complete anti virus scan it didn't work. My main concern to view hidden files is that I want to delete Autorun.inf file on the C drive which does not allow me to open C drive simply by double clicking on it. Whenever I double click on the C drive an "open with" dialog box appears whi…

I have a domain controller server that shows these netstat results. Does it mean I may have a VLAN? Why do the server ports connect to other ports on the same server? Could this be a way block to block connections? I really don't know.
