telling the computer to hibernate when you already have preventshibernate from working

telling the computer to hibernate when you already have preventshibernate from working Sometimes, I'll hit the hibernate item from the drop down menu in the Task Manager and a few minutes later (ie. far longer than it normally takes), I hit it again thinking maybe my first initial hitting of it didn't get registered or something. Only problem is... when I do this, it doesn't hibernate at all. I do it because the computer doesn't hibernate within a few minutes. I then do something that takes about twenty minutes, come back, and find it hasn't hibernated at all. Maybe it never would have hibernated in the first place, but, either way, it is kinda annoying, …

USB 2.0 PC Card Freezes Notebook
by Guest Skippybox- 8 replies

When it was new, my USB 2.0 Cardbus PC Card Adapter worked fine. Now when I attempt to insert it into its slot, my notebook just freezes up. I am forced to reboot. Everything is fine afterwards, as long as I don't have the card in. I have always been running XP SP2, even when the card worked. What is causing this? Is this a driver problem? Am I allowed to use an updated driver compatible with Vista?

Laptop touchpad jumping mouse
by Guest Oona- 1 reply

Hello people Have Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro laptop with built in touchpad. Unfortunately the mouse jumps around while I'm in the middle of typing. It has done this ever since it was new. It isn't always because I touch it. Advanced text services are off already. The mouse driver doesn't allow sensitivity to be adjusted, or even tap clicks to be disabled (no, it really doesn't). Have tried installing different mouse driver from manufacturers website, also doing updates from microsoft update. To my knowledge I haven't damaged the touchpad. Suggestions??

Of Mice and Men
by Guest Danger_Duck- 17 replies

This is actually a serious question: Can ball mice ever wear out? I have this ball mouse at home and sometimes it gets stuck when I try to move it to the left, I end up having to bang it gently (if that's not a contradiction) and then it goes on its way. Now, Do I just need to get the dust outta there or can ball mice actually wear out? Also, can pressing hard on a mousepad and frequent use wear out the ball/mouse roller thingies? (As in, when nerdy kids like me play real time strategy games all the time that demand precision point and clicks) Basically, I'm wondering if I need to replace or just clean my ball mouse, and if so, if to get an infrare…

failing to start XP Pro
by Guest Geoff- 2 replies

Recently my computer failed to load Win XP Pro SP2 (seemingly a problem with a video card, BSOD referred to an ATI driver). Fitted another video card and received basically the same BSOD message this time referring to the new video card driver. The Windows splash screen would show, then the computer would go into a continous loop of wanting to Start Windows Normally (?) and would not allow me to make any other choices such as safe mode etc. I then went into the BIOS settings and change the first boot device to CD (the second being the hard drive), placed the XP Pro disc into the CD reader (with a view to doing a "Repair" installation) BUT the computer continued to…

Why can't I ping host on own home network?
by Guest James Egan- 3 replies

I can't ping my wife's PC from mine on our home network. My PC's IP address is 192.168.1.4, and my wife's is 192.168.1.3. Our Linksys router is 192.168.1.1, and is the gateway for both PC's I can't ping her PC from mine, and vice versa. I turned off her Windows firewall, and also her Avast virus protection (including flex firewall) and still can't ping one from the other. What else could be preventing me from being able to ping her PC? -Thanks

Domain time - clients not synching with DC
by Guest EdRoche- 6 replies

For some reason the clients in our domain are not synching the time with the domain controller - I presume should be default behaviour. They are out but only a few minutes but it is v annoying and sometimes causes people not to get their mapped drives. I would put a net time line into the login script but as most users are not admins on the local PCs they dont have access to change time under their account. The client firewalls are on and I included a port exception for 123 UDP. Should the clients update their time automatically with the DC automatically? Can someone explain a simple and straight forward solution? Thanks

Hi All, I've suddenley started having a problem when I'm browsing the internet. Its OK for a while and then when I search for a page, it will suddenley say 'Internet Explorer could not find page' so I can then use 'Diagnose Network Connection Problems' and it fixes the conncetion which lets me browse again, but not for long before it happens again. At the same time my Outlook Express will be unable to send or receive e-mails. This has only just started happening in last few weeks but its very annoying and is really slowing me down. Can anyone help or suggest anything I can do to fix this permanently ? All help or advice appreciated.... Regards, …

DNS-Split horizon
by Guest Scott W- 2 replies

couple of things: Windows server 2000 NIC tcp/ip protocol is assigned 4 different ip addresses? DHCP reserves these so as not to get assigned to clients I didn't set this up I can't really assign a host record (WWW) for the website: http://www.company.com because when i ping http://www.company.com OUTSIDE of the domain I just get the ip of the name server that's hosting the website. typing that ip address in an address bar resolves to a completly different website. I did assign a delegation to www that points to the nameserver. I tested by pinging http://www.company.com and it resolved the ip address of the name server. I pulled up http://www.com…

Attacked by spyware. My Computer shows only the G: from the printer's SD slot, plus the shared documents folders. How did the program remove them from the display? Can't run regedit and several control panel items as the "System Administrator" has prevented it. Is there a simple way to recover after removing the spyware? -- Doug

Event ID's 35 and 40 WMI errors (Windows Server 2003 R2)
by Guest Mike in Nebraska- 3 replies

I am trying to install MOSS 2007 on a newly installed Windows Server 2003 R2 (I installed a fresh copy of the OS this morning and it is fully patched as of this afternoon.) I had several errors and then tried "winmgmt /clearadap" from a command line to correct them and got these event ID's (35 & 40). Did a google search and found a blog entry: http://blogs.msdn.com.carloc/archive/2008/06/04/wmi-warnings-35-and-40-with-asp-net.aspx where it mentions that it is fixed with .NET 3.5 SP1 (which isn't out yet), but that you can request an unpublished hotfix (#951683) from CSS. I searched the MS site, but can't find a 'free' way to ask them for this hotf…
