Hi everyone, Has anyone experienced any problems with remote desktop connection 6.1 client not working after installing XP SP3? Note 6.x was not installed before the upgrade. When I try to connect to any other machine, PC or server, I get the error "Remote Desktop Connection has encountered a problem and needs to close..." When i check the details it mentions the appname mstsc.exe (obviously) and the modname mstscax.dll. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance. Darren

Previous Windows Server 2003 Web Edition CDs we have installed had the volume label NRMWOEM_EN, which corresponds to Web Edition 32-bit OEM. This is according to the Microsoft KB 889713: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889713 Last week we purchased a license for Windows Server 2003 Web Edition 32-bit from an outfit online that has great feedback named Royal Discount. What they shipped us is a CD that has the label CRMWOEM_EN. Can someone please identify what is the C in that label? The license does not appear to be compatible with virtual machines built with the other volume label, so this is why we want to understand what we bought in mo…

Prob'ly OT: Drive two monitors from laptop?

I don't really know where to go for this solution, so I thought I'd ask here first because I know most of you have dealt with just about everything!! I have an older Dell Latitude laptop (one external standard monitor port, no DVI). I know I can hook up one external monitor. Is there a cheap and easy way to hook up two flat screen monitors that will display the same thing? I've seen add-on boxes costing over $1400! WIll a simple splitter cable work? Ed

remote user login problem on server 2003
by Guest Jasper- 0 replies

I am having a problem with some users logging into server 2003 from a remote desktop. I have had 2 users try to login and they just get a black screen. If they login at the server it works or if I login at their desktop I can login and get the remote desktop. I have checked the RDP settings and checked the accounts at the server. If I make them a new server login it works. I am using this workaround for now. Thanks for any help.

Remote desktop won't allow access
by Guest Didier_Toulouse- 6 replies

Hi all, I have three PC computers running XPP SP3. All of them have the same config in terms of remote desktop authorization. One of the three PCs, say "A", was part of a WS2003 network. I took that machine off this network and created a new one with "B" and "C", an ADSL box and a hub. I can connect from A to B and C via the remote Desktop application, but I cannot connect from B or C to A. I immediately get an error message saying that either the Administrator denied access (which is obviously not the case), or a network error occurred during connection. There are no messages in any system event logfiles. The three PCs have an account password. A…

I think SP3 broke my OE

After I installed SP3 on my SP Pro in my desktop my Outlook Express does not connect to the servers and I get an error message. Socket Error 10061 Error number 0x800CCC0E. I used the Microsoft chat but the technician could not help me. I googled the error and the suggestion was that two ports were closed; Port 25 and Port 110. Any suggestions? Earlier I installed SP3 on my laptop with no problem. -- dwaing If you can read you can learn anything for there are those who are smarter than you who can write, however not everyone who can write is smarter than you.

What happened to Windows 2008 server remote access?
by Guest user- 0 replies

I have bought 5 new 2008 servers to replace my 2003 servers. I installed a USR external modem and enabled Dialup networking Route & Remote access. All went well, no errors, Routing & remote access for dialup running ok. Modem shows ok, did a test dial out, OK. Modems will not answer on any of the 5 servers, AA light blinks but thats it. Is there something new in 2008 server I am missing, just to get the modem to answer? I'll worry about authentication later.. I had no problems with this on 2003 servers / same modems. I even tried a diff modem on one. Thanks BUC

XP Explorer.exe will not start
by Guest smicale- 5 replies

I have a XP machine when it reboots the explorer.exe file will not run. If I go to task manager and browse to the file in the windows directory it is there, but if i try and run it I get the error message saying, "Windows cannot find 'C:\windows\explorer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search." This system was hot with a virus, but I think I have removed them all. I also ran a registry cleaner and it found 187 errors and fixed that as well. I think there still is something wrong in the registry and that is why explorer will not run. Anyone have any id…

Backup missing.
by Guest Patrick- 9 replies

I need more help from the pros! I attempted to perform a Backup of my system. I went to Programs, selected Accessories, then System Tools and I couldn't find Backup. System Restore appeared along with other options, but the Backup option was missing? I just recently performed the latest Windows Update without any errors. How can System Restore be an option, and not have Backup as an option? Has this in someway been deleted? I didn't delete it... not knowingly, anyway! Do you have a suggestion? Your help will be greatly appreciated, needless to say. Thanks -- Patrick

Windows 2003 crash
by Guest sean- 0 replies

one of my server which was running Windows 2003 Server w/ Sp2 crashed due to hard drive problem. The server had a 120gig HD which was partition into two. 1st partition was 30gig which was Windows installed and 2nd partition was unallocated. After rebooting with Windows 2003 CD and went into recovery, I cannot see the directory listing when issuing "dir". I get an error about an error occurred during directory enumeration. I ran chkdsk /p and it indicates another error. What I found out was there is NO free space available on the 1st partition. When I ran Windows 2003 setup, it does see the partition but it indicates it is in "raw" filesystem. I download…
