Add Printer - Operation Cannot be Completed
by Guest raydeo- 0 replies

Not sure whether the problem began with XP SP3 or as a result of optimizing my hard drive with Norton System Works 2008. Noted after installing Acrobat Pro 9 that it will not pdf any documents as the system would not setup the necessary printers. Tried adding a printer manually and get the Operation Cannot Complete message. The fix to this is to ensure that Print Spooler is running in Services which it is. It both comes on automatically at boot and stays started. I have also attempted to manually shut it down and then start it but to no avail. If it's not the spooler, any suggestions of what it could be. I'd like to avoid reinstall my entire machi…

Need Help Finding a Network Setting in XP
by Guest vbMark- 3 replies

Hello, I am trying to set up Split Tunneling with my VPN. I know that I need to uncheck "Use Default Gateway on the Remote Network". But all the web sites I have gone to show a picture that does not match what I have. The sites I found say to go to your network settings -> TCP/IP Properties -> Advanced button -> And on the General tab uncheck "Use Default Gateway on the Remote Network". I have the other tabs shown in all the pictures, DNS, WINS, Options, but I don't have a General tab. I do, however, have a tab of a different name "IP Settings" but it has no such check box as described. Can anyone provide some insight? Thanks!! --…

windows 2003 default wallpaper weirdness
by Guest awrightus@hotmail.com- 0 replies

Okay, this is a strange one. Using Windows 2003 Standard SP2, I'm forcing the default wallpaper displayed at logon using the following registry key. [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop] "Wallpaper"="%systemroot%\\wallpaper.jpg" The wallpaper shows up as expected. However, if you grab the logon dialog box with the mouse and move it around the screen, it erases the graphics in the jpg! I tried the same thing using a bmp and didn't have that problem. Any ideas what would cause this? Thanks. Steve

application optimization question

Hi, I've got 3 machines running on the same network, and the behavior just doesn't make any sense to me. Could anyone explain it? Machine 1: Server 2003, 1gb -- file server storing access databases and excel .xla files Machine 2: Vanilla XP Client, 1 gb ram Machine 3: Server 2003, 1 gb ram -- terminal server All in the same room on the same 100mb switched network, so unlikely that network speed is the deciding factor. If a user logs onto the XP client, opens excel, runs the add-in, which accesses the access databases and writes a report, the process runs SLOWER than that same user logging onto a terminal server session. Screen updates in E…

by Guest Eric Chatham- 3 replies

Hello, I currently am using my Domain Admin account to run a scheduled task. The scheduled task is a VB Script that accesses WMI information and LDAP information from a few Domain Controllers and Servers. How would I set up a service account with the appropriate permissions to access this information on each DC and memeber server? I'd like to stop using my Domain Admin account for the scheduled task. If you would like me to post the VB Code to see it more closely, let me know. Thanks. RE: Help me on Antivirus for x64!!! try looking for a decently compatible antivirus and there shouldn't be a problem. i use avast myself and there are very few if any issues ive had with it. and it does not contribute to system instability. avast has a program released for vista users that helps to protect and defend vista from nasties out there and i find seems to be the most effective. they know about their programming and i feeel confident with them protecting my system. the database and progeram itsself can even be set to automatically update so the virus database is always new and effective. plus as i have the home user version i have manageed to r…

Dear All, Got a weird on here, don't how to get around it.... the Subject line is technically true, but not totally... I've got a laptop that is connecting wirelessly to a domain, usual practice, turn the latop on, wait a second or two for the wireless card to spring to life, and then log on... For some reason recently, it has been upable to log on, because windows isn't remember the I.P address (192.168.1.x) which has been manually set, so I get the error message about the profile will not be able to be stored... So, it boots up, I access the networking section, repair the connection, get my IP back and I'm fine, but when logging off, it doesn't s…
