However, 50 percent of the respondents said there was a lack of demand for such loans and 40 percent said there was a limited number of mortgage applicants at their bank who meet the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting criteria for conforming jumbo loans, which require better credit scores and higher down payments. The Fed survey also revealed that both domestic and foreign banks expected to continue tightening standards on most loans through the end of 2008 and into 2009. "We think the Fed might have to be tightening by the end of this year, so higher interest rates coupled with higher credit standards is not a pretty picture," said Kim Rupert, managing…

Avoid SP3 reminder?
by Guest RasVed- 6 replies

Hi. I have software which is not compatible with SP3, and hence this service pack is not a usuable solution for me. I'm still interesseted in reminders about new updates, which can be installed at SP2, so my question is: How can I tell automatic update to ignore SP3 and only present all other updates to me? As it is now, I constantly get pop-up messages, that Automatic Update wants to install SP3... Further more I have a yellow exclamation mark in my task bar, which makes both me and other users nervous, and make me miss other important updates...

Hi, A Motherboard failure that took out the CPU and one hard drive resulted in: A new Motherboard, CPU and Hard drives with WinXP SP2 ghosted from my old hard drive. Things seem to be OK, but for : 1. Win Update site scans my PC and after offering SP3 (refused) : a. "Review other updates" b. "Need to download/install latest version of update" c. "Update Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 failed to update" Any attempt to review my update history gets me nowhere. (I read that MSI.DLL Ver 3.1.4000.1823 was replaced by Ver 3.1.4000.2435 (Feb 2005) but the version I have is 3.0.3790.2180 which seems a bit old) I have downloaded the latest ver of MSI 3…

Safe to delete shortcut files in Recent folder?
by Guest Markkk- 3 replies

In my Documents and Settings/Owner folder, there’s a folder called Recent, which contains several hundred .lnk files with names matching files in the My Documents folder. They are identified as shortcuts, but I haven’t knowingly created them, so why are they there and can I safely delete them? The icon for the Recent folder is different than other folder icons in having a clock on it, so it may indicate that its contents have time limits on them, but some of the .lnk files are 3 years old, which may mean I have to manually delete them to clean up unused files. Is that true?

Server 2003 to log in automatically
by Guest cbass- 4 replies
I would like to have one of my servers log in automatically on reboot. I found an article where I can change the registry values for DefaultUserName and DefaultPassword. So far this does work and when I reboot my server it is logged in automatically. I will create a GP so the server locks. Is there another way to have the server login autmatically than making the registry changes? This will be a remote server so I will be accessing it via Remote Desktop and a PCAnywhere type of product.

I have a HP Pavilion note book with a HL-DT-ST-GSA-4084N CD/DVD burner. Just recently my burning software will no longer recognize the drive. I have tried reinstalling the software, uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, and swapping the drive with the same model from another computer. The problem still persists. Anyone else ever have this problem?

by Guest George- 1 reply

(Cross-posted in microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support) I used to have 6 icons in the Notification area (system tray) in one single row. After a drive reformat and reinstall of XP, the 6 icons are now in two rows of 3 each, and I can't figure out how to get them back into 1 row as before. I know it's no big deal, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'll appreciate it. Thanks, George

DHCP client broken at WinXP
by Guest William Stokes- 0 replies

Hello, ...Or atleast it stopped working approximately at the same time SEP was installed. No other config changes were made to that particular client or DHCP server so I suppose this failure is because of SEP installation. Details are below. Please note that Sep=Symantec Endpoint Protection Client v11. I push installed SEP client to about 40 XP desktops and all went well. Also push installed it to 1 XP laptop (Dell optiplex D830) with Kerio personall firewall enabled over night. After this, the following day, the laptop user reported that network is not working. Ok, I checked the laptop to find out that it cannot aquire IP address from DHCP server.…

Hi too all: Had a virus problem & that was resolved. However, during that experience my taskbar clock changed to a 24 hr. clock. I'd like to go back to the 12 hr. model. I went to control panel, regional options, regional & language options, customize, time tab, h:mm:ss tt, put in the correct numbers & letters. Clicked on apply & "Boing" was told I chose one or more wrong characters. DUHHH! Anyone got a clue what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Vince
