Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:0x8007000e. Symptom is exactly as described in hotfix 907875. However as SP2 already included fixes for 907875, cannot apply it any more. Not able to follow workaround solution as no boot.ini file can be found. Re-registered the vss services only work for two days and failed again. Server configuration: Intel Xeon 3GHz 1GB memory hard disk 150GB, only using 30GB of it maximum page file size set to 4GB Any suggestion?

Is there a script that I could use to find the system time and reduce it by 16 minutes and display it in a MSGBOX as "The current time is..." I don't have the rights to change the time on the computer so this seems like the best way.

set password expiry to a few weeks.
by Guest Haggis- 3 replies

Is there some way i can force a group of users on the domain to have their password expire in 2 weeks without changing the Domain policy and affecting other users. The reason for this is that, for some time we have had a group of users that passwords never expire, now we want to enforce password expiry along with the rest of the domain. However, i do not want to wait for the 180 days before they have to change it. i also do not want to set 'change password at next logon' as these particular users are mobile PDA users and have access to a network PC only occasionally. So once 'change password at next logon' is set, and their device queries our mail serv…

Time format has gone incorrect
by Guest ms- 3 replies

I've never seen this in any OS before. Daily cold boot. Noticed during the day, time of day in the System Tray is 24 hour format. This is a change, Checked in Time Adjust screen, Time of day is correct as 12 hour format, Time Zone is correct, Day/month/year all OK. I used a util to check time, my system time is accurate. So the system reads 12 hour format, yet displays as 24 hour format. Advice? ms

Installed SP3, now getting "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem" message

Installed SP3, now getting "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem" message My daughter has a laptop, and a non-admin user account on it. I take it every month or so and log on as administrator to take care of some basic maintenance. It was running XP SP2 and AVG 8. When I logged in, the first updates it asked me to install were the ones from the 9/14 Windows Update, seven in all. After the required restart, it pushed SP3 to me (I'd had a problem related to a corrupted installation file installing this previously). This installed fine and quickly, and then the computer restarted. No big deal, I've installed three other SP3…

Two XP machines, same product key
by Guest PanHandler- 7 replies

Yesterday I bought a new eMachine at Wal-Mart for $298, with XP Home preinstalled. After getting it configured and loading some programs I wanted to get some info on the machine, so I loaded the Aida SysInfo utility and while poking around in it noticed that the OS key looked familiar. I went to my list of machines/keys on my other computers and found the SAME key in use on one of my old (5 Year) eMachines that I sold about a year ago! I read both keys at least five times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. What the hell? What are the odds of M$ doing that accidentally, and on top of that, the chances an individual would ever catch it? How the hell can t…

Running XP, SP3. Someone reset the UPS time to 15 seconds until reboot. Because the system can't find the UPS, it immediately shuts down. I have about 10 seconds to get to Control Panel and Power Managment before it shuts down. I tried with a boot from CD app, but it will not allow me to run any applicatons (like for power mgmt). Does anyone have a suggestion?

by Guest kraut- 14 replies

On my one system that has 98se on it when I use a pic for wallpaper that is in portrait size (Taller then wide) Windows stretches the width so it fills the whle screen but the height stays the same. My second system which also has 98se shows it in portrait size with blank space on side of it. How and where would I find / change the setting for the first system that stretches it so it shows it as is like my second system? TIA

unable to join to the domain with netbios name
by Guest OM- 11 replies

Hi I am unable to join my Vista business machine to a windows 2003 domain using netbios name, FQDN is fine. Netbios resolution is working as I can browse the domain and use net use to map network drive on all DCs within the domain. Also, all Windows XP machines can join to the domain with netbios name. Netbios over tcpip is enabled and IPV6/local firewall is disabled. All client machines are on the same subnet. No WINS is used on the network. The error message is: An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target do…

I just want to boot back to desktop but it just keeps booting back into setup. How can I boot back to to desktop? Any ideas would be appreciated. Bob
