Very slow scrolling in explorer - 30k+ .htm files
by Guest TMCO Admin- 2 replies

Hello all, I have a problem with opening files in Front Page, but it seems to be connected to Explorer. When opeing a network directory with 30k+ .htm files, scrolling thru the directory is page-at-a-time, and each page takes 10-15 seconds to "find". The file names show up immediately, as well as all the details, but the icons are the standard unknown file type icon for 10-15 seconds, then turns into the correct icon for the file association, and you can scroll to the next page. Hoping someone can suggest something to cure this. I'm running mix of SP2 and SP3 machines, not all have Front Page loaded, all act the same. A software vendor had Vist…

by Guest SteveDB- 2 replies

Hello and Greetings, I'm having a particularly interesting problem installing SP3. The installation seems to go well until receiving a "Copy Error" message. It reads as follows: "An error occurred while copying file mmcfxcr.dll. Cannot copy file to destination directory. Click Retry to retry the operation or clock Cancel to" That it for the first message. I am allowed to browse for the file and can see it in the temp installation directory created during the install of SP3. It will not however allow me to get past the error. I extracted the file using the /x parameter, copied to the c:\windows\system32 directory manually and tried to use regsvr32 to re…

Windows 2003 R2 Installation
by Guest Jesus- 2 replies

Hi all, I have a question to ask of you experts. I have Windows 2003 R2 CDs. Once you install Windows from scratch and you log into the machine for the first time the system will ask you to insert the 2nd CD from this install. If I disregard this message and continue on my marry way will there be issues with my install later due to the fact that this second CD was not inserted? Not related to R2 components. I'm wondering if there are essential files that are in CD2 that are necessary for Windows to operate properly. I know the 2nd CD from what many people have been saying is not needed and if you install Windows without it is like installing the old ve…

I have been trying to install this update for a couple of weeks...and it seems to install, but then gives me a message that it failed to install. I have never gotten a error number nor any reason for why it won't install. Today I went to this page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8f588f7e-c4ed-42a0-b157-54b1eda60474&DisplayLang=en and tried to download it here. I followed instructions and it seemed to install, BUT, I got the error message (attached) this time. I haven't a clue what this means...except that I'm missing something! I hope it's nothing totally serious. Hope I've asked this question in the correct group.....my first …

Explorer is occasionally crashing and restarting itself. No error msg displayed. On restart, it displays an Explorer browser window, but the Desktop and Taskbar do not reappear. Ctrl-Alt-Del to Task Manager works fine. If this is a known problem, please point me to the relevant URLs. Thanks. Event Log: "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted." master browser question
by Guest Tester- 2 replies
Hi there, Is it possible to make 2 machines master browsers for a remote subnet or it would cause some sort of conflict? I mean to set the settings isdomainmaster to true and maintainserverlist to yes in registry? My goal is to prevent another machine to become master browser which I already set the above settings to "No" and to have a backup of the master browser if the other one is not powered up for that remote subnet. Thank you, T

by Guest raparten- 23 replies

I am having a terrible time with my win. xp home edition right now. It started a couple of days ago, all of a sudden the task bar, icons on the desktop, and start menu disappeared. I had been working in the task manager, deleting some processes... I was doing as the Sims 2 Holiday Edition manual said, as it also said everything would return to normal after i restarted my computer. well since then, one of 2 things have been happening. Either everything flashes [appears for like 15 secs then disappears for couple secs, comes back, disppears, comes back....] or all i have is the desktop wall paper. I have been trying to fix this for a couple of days an…

I rebooted Microsoft Windowsxp Professional 2000 using the CD. Unfortunatly I didnt know to save data for my drivers, and upon restart after resetting the basics my pc is slugish. Moving a window drags across the screen, scrolling down an internet page is enough to give you a headach. I went under Device Manager and found the following did not register and could not be updated. Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Bride Device, SM Bus Controller, Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible). Im trying to find a way to update these so they can work. -- Bluex25 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bluex25's Profile: htt…

Strange networking problem...

In our office, one of the users (who brings in own laptop) cannot connect to network. I can connect to same connection & can connect just fine. Cable tester shows no problems, either. I can take his laptop & connect directly into switch & it connects just fine. I had a new cable run & all worked fine. He has moved to a new office & it's starting all over! Any reason why mine, or any other computers can connect fine, but his wouldn't? Thanks- -- Mr. Simpson, there are thousands of people like you with no discernable talent. Yeah, they're called Congress.
