XP Repair
by Guest GaryG- 9 replies

My system (XP Home upgraded from Me 4 years ago) has become slow booting, extremely slow shutting down, and sluggish otherwise. I've unwisely used registry cleaners for several years and maybe I've caused the registry to be part of my problem. I investigated the possibilty of a repair install using the XP upgrade CD (have looked at the MikeStevens Web site), but I can't boot from the CD, nor can Windows Explorer find anything on it. Maybe I have to run setup and change my boot device order? Don't understand. Can someone help me get a handle on what I'm missing here? -- Gary

server : HP ML370 G3 with Dual processors I have issue with Windows Server 2003 Ent with SP2, when try connect usb hdd. It is not detected. After applying w2k3 service pack 2 I noticed that the USB drive was not always being detected. I was advised to apply the hotfix KB931317 (Windows Server 2003 - KB931317 -x86-ENU.exe) but this has not solved the problem. I first noticed problems with the usb disk being detected while still on SP1. And thought SP2 would cure the problem. The hard drive is a toshiba MK4025GAS sold as a branded mobile hard disk called "flight case". - The usb HHD works fine on my w2k3 SP1 machine and on my XP SP2 machine - I…

I have on my desktop a VBS file, written in notepad.exe which puts my user name on any page when I touch the shortcut keys. Unfortunately, I cannot access the shortcut key area under properties when I right click the desktop program, then scroll to properties...bringing up a "shortcut key" box. HOWEVER, I DO NOT SEEM TO POSSESS THE KNOW-HOW ON CHANGING THE SHORTCUT KEY. I cannot seem to access the shortcut key...as when I go to properties from mt desktop, and right-clicking the program...then...properties...I get " + + " in the shortcut key box,,,I cannot seem to be able to change it?? Can SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME? Thanks, FLKulchar

Controlled "SIGN IN" with constant SCREENNAME
by Guest F. Lawrence Kulchar- 19 replies

I, of course, sign in to a huge variety of websites on an everyday basis. I have been fortunate enough to have utilized the SAME screenname for each and every one of them. IS IT POSSIBLE TO, SOMEHOW, CREATE A "LOCK", i.e. a copied screenname, and then, sign in USING, for example, "CTRL V" -- thereby pasting the screenname onto the webpage?????????? This SCREENNAME would of course exist throughout the day...and NOT vary from day to day!!!!! Thank you, FLKulchar

Hi, I have 2x 2008 Enterprise TS member servers running. All domain users have problems browsing the web. ActiveX controls cannot be installed (flash, java etc) because they need admin priviliges. Ok I can live with that, but even browsing the web is hard. When they go to a flash based site, they get a yellow message bar at the top "Your security setting do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here for options". When they click it, they only have a "more information" button, no "enable this content for this site" or something like that. I can't explain to all them that they ha…
