Followed the instructions on this page Building and installing OpenCore | OpenCore Legacy Patcher Used bless command to make patcher startup screen the default. Now when I reboot after the chime I see the OCPL start up picker screen for about 5 seconds and then I switches to a black screen with a white prohibited sign and then a few seconds after computer shuts down. I imagine it is a graphics card issue? Im on a Mac Pro 5,1, with Sapphire metal GPU, which up until yesterday has... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hi all, I just purchased an RX 5700 XT as an upgrade for my 5,1 which was previously running with an RX 580. I removed the post-install patches using OpenCore Patcher before replacing the GPU, but upon boot, it seems to hang every time around the 35% mark and refuses to boot into the OS no matter how long I wait. I am still able to boot into the OS with the 580 back in place however. Judging from the boot sequence, the Mac with the 5700 XT installed seems to be freezing/hanging right... External drive encryption
by Guest MarkC426- 0 replies

I recently formatted an external spinner with 4 partitions to clone various drives on my Mac Pro for offsite storage. In retrospect, I would have preferred them to be encrypted (personal paranoia....), if leaving at work. Reading the Apple support docs suggests to erase with Disk Utility as encrypted. All volumes have already been cloned (some took quite a while), so was trying to avoid re-cloning. But then further it says you can select in finder and encrypt.... This disk is in HFS+, so... I need some help. I am running a really old piece of software for sign writing. Is there any way of running OS Snow Leopard on a Mac Pro 2013 Trash Can? It is designed for Snow Leopard which I had on a pre retina IMac. 2 of these machine have now broken down, so I want to go back to Mac Pro's I have 2 Trash cans running Mojave, so I do not have to go to cloud based Adobe products. Apple Pro Display XDR in 2024 vs other options like 32 inch OLEDs
by Guest rondocap- 0 replies
I've been a Big Mac Pro fan for a long time, but never got the Apple Pro Display XDR. I did get the Studio Display, which has been pretty good. Recently I picked up the new ASUS 32 inch 4K OLED 240Hz monitor. While it is a gaming monitor on the surface, it has USB-C display/charging and works perfectly with Macs. Text and color fringing are also much better on this new generation of OLED. The 240 Hz refresh rate, even on a desktop non-gaming environment, is still noticeable and buttery... First off, I want to say that I'm glad to be back here on the forums. Thank you to the admin who reactivated my account. It's been two years since I started my original CMP journey, documented here on the forums of course. I sold that computer shortly after my modifications because I was fed up with the ongoing gaming issues and decided to build a dedicated Windows gaming PC. But here I am, with the CMP itch once again. I recently acquired 2 classic Apple Mac Pro computers, both 5,1 models... Read more Source: MacRumors

Buy cheap 7,1 or Studio
by Guest hornedrum- 0 replies

Hi folks, I've spotted a cheap 7,1: 12 core with 192gb ram, 4tb, Sonnet Fusion Flex J3i for £1.3k. Am I mad to think about buying this for an audio rig running Pro Tools? I was holding off for the M3 Max Studio (hopefully June), with 64gb ram and 2tb new for around £2.8k with educational discount. Pros and cons please? I am guessing Apple might only support Intel for 2/3 years at most? Cheers. Source: MacRumors
