Opencore Legacy Patcher with NVMe Mojave and SSD Sonoma
by Guest Guymartin- 0 replies

Hi - Relative newby to Opencore Legacy Patcher, so maybe some obvious questions, but I am stuck! I have a Mac Pro 5,1 that has been running Mojave for years fine, with the MacVidCards bluetooth/wifi mod and a non-flashed RX560. Finally fed up with no updates and software stopping working, so decided to try and update to the latest OS via Opencore Legacy Patcher. I have installed a new SSD and successfully installed Sonoma to that, and have Opencore Boot Picker installed on that SSD and... Read more Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 5,1 Apple Hardware Test freezes during probe?
by Guest MikeDavies99- 0 replies

HI all. I downloaded what should be the correct version of AHT from Github. Followed their instructions and put it on a USB. So far so good. AHT boots and starts but freezes during the Probe portion of the test. The mouse freezes.Other people have had problems with an MS mouse. Used an Apple mouse. Any ideas? Github shows you a terminal command to return your Board ID. to identify the correct AHT for your machine. We just did this on my wife's MacBook . Worked fine. Thanks. Source: MacRumors

MVNO Coverage
by Guest padams35- 0 replies
I recently tried saving money by switching to a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Mint to be specific. Previously I had Spectrum Mobile bundled with internet. Both supposedly use the Verizon network so I was expecting the same service. Sadly, my coverage with Mint is significantly worse (1-bar, 2G 'E' or even 'SOS only' are common), which is a double surprise because the family member who who recommended Mint has +3 bars on their phone when they stand next to me. Is it just me... Read more Continue reading...

Do all drives need EFI partitions?
by Guest Engender- 0 replies

Hello, I am running Monterey on my cMP 4,1>5,1 through OCLP. Yesterday, there was some buggy stuff happening on my Mac, so I did an NVRAM reset. Once I rebooted, I found that I no longer had the graphic OC boot picker that I was using prior to the reset. Instead, I had a text-only one and I could not boot into Monterey. Thus began three hours of trouble shooting. I have four HDDs and one NVME drive. My NVMe drive is the boot drive. Eventually, I took out all my HDDs, leaving only my NVMe... High Sierra issues using Mojave 144 BootROM
by Guest MVMNT- 0 replies
Can anyone help please? I've updated the bootROM using the Mojave installer, but have decided to stay on High Sierra for the time being. If it ain't broke, right? Well now it is... I'm now getting intermittent crashes to black screen, with a white message screen and hard reset at the end (essentially like a kernal panic) especially when using After Effects. Any ideas if this is down to using the later bootROM? I'm using an Nvidia GFX card and can't afford the performance hit after seeing... Read more Source: MacRumors

Power to optical bay replacement
by Guest tek.prabu- 0 replies
Hei! I was wondering if it would be possible to replace the optical drive with something like a Startech 4-bay rack-backplane (with a PCIe SATA controller 6G to go with it). However, I am a NOOB when it comes to wiring, etc and have no clue about how to provide power to such a unit. Would it be possible to somehow split power from the SATA-II cable that feeds the 2 optical bays ? Would splitting from the SATA-II cables provide enough power required by such a unit (2x... Mojave random kernel panic on Mac Pro 4.1 -> 5.1
by Guest Aidzer0- 0 replies

Hello all, I have a 4.1 > 5.1 mac pro (2009), it has the 144.0.0.0 firmware on it, 4x 8TB HDD's, AMD 7950 GPU, 2x X5680 CPU's and 8x 8gb RAM (64GB). Mojave is running off of a 500GB Samsung SATA drive. I have had this Mac Pro for 5 years now with absolutely no issues, up until a year ago one of my CPU's died (No boot unless the faulty CPU was taken out), I replaced both the CPU's with X5680 chips, the CPU that died came with the mac and I don't know what it experienced. I have had no... Read more Source: MacRumors

How to Show Mac Games Only on Steam
by Guest Ali Khan- 0 replies

Steam is a very popular gaming platform, but one frustrating thing about browsing Steam on a Mac can be when you find a game you might like, go to check it out, and then discover it’s for Windows only. Why’d you see a Windows only game in the Steam Store when you’re using Steam on ... Read More Continue reading...

MAC PRO 4,1 and 5,1 PCIe AUX Power
by Guest syops- 0 replies
The Mac Pro 4,1 & 5,1 have plenty of PCIe AUX power, unless you need more than 300 watts for your GPU(s). Remember you get 75 watts from the PCIe slot. Each PCIe AUX 6 pin connector in the Mac Pro towers delivers 150 watts. Yes all three power pins in both of the PCIe AUX plugs are connected. The PCIe specifications don't required pin number two to have power, but it also does not prohibit it either. In the MAC Pro 4,1 / 5,1 it is connected. To be clear, this delivers the same power as a 8... Read more Source: MacRumors

5,1 takes forever to boot into Monterey & loses wifi/BT (OC 0.9.5)
by Guest serviaas- 0 replies
Hi all - installed Monterey on the 5,1 without issue after sitting on Catalina for some time. However, now the boot to login screen takes 3-5x as long, and even with Martin Lo's most recent 0.9.5 OC setup, with all the bluetooth fixes enabled, still has no BT or Wifi. Am I alone or has anyone else experienced this? Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 4,1 high fan speed, Heatsink temp sensor issue?
by Guest btjtaylor- 0 replies
Hi all I have a Mac Pro 4,1 flashed to 5,1 with 2x X5680s installed I have an intermittent problem where some of the fan speeds in machine will go to 100%, even at idle, which is incredibly noisy, I believe I have diagnosed the issue as being with the heatsink temp sensor for CPU A, in the below screenshot you can see that some of the fans are running at 100%, and the HeatSink temp sensor is not reading a value. https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/screenshot-2019-12-01-at-00-36-01-png.888867/ If I use a third party tool like "Macs Fan Control" I can work... Flights climbed far too high
by Guest Goat57- 0 replies
For the last few months my “floors climbed” has been a crazy amount each day, up to 400. For reference I do about 20-30 a day on average, certainly no more than 50. I have an Apple Watch SE 2 and an iPhone SE 2 and, looking at the data sources, both devices appear to be contributing flights climbed. This is affirmed as my watch is currently returning from a service (during which no fault was found thus no fix applied) and my phone has been counting too many flights independently of the... No iMessage Sound Notification on Lock Screen
by Guest ufgatorvet- 0 replies
Just set up a new iP15 and iP15 Pro and neither will make a notification sound ON THE LOCK SCREEN when an iMessage arrives. When the phone is unlocked, it works as expected. It does SHOW a notification on the lock screen, but no sound occurs. I have checked all the notification settings, the Focus, the mute button, the volume and I just don't see the issue. When I google this, I find similar complaints but no real answer or explanation. Anyone else experience this? Continue reading...

I set up my Driving Focus so that no notifications come through when driving. But phone calls come through from people on my contact list. The Driving Focus automatically activates when driving and does send automated return messages. However, the messages still come through and show up on my phone. I have a sleep mode also set up and that works fine. No notifications come through when that mode is on. Any suggestions? Continue reading...

Mac Pro 5,1(4,1) Opencore legacy patcher, Monterey, postinstall USB stick or not?
by Guest Stormageddon- 0 replies

I have a cMP 5,1, geforce gtx760, dual tray, 64 gb ram, 2 x HDD, 1 x SSD, 1 x NVME (pcie). No bootscreen. With a lot of sweat and doubts I managed to install Monterey on a freshly formatted HDD. Idea was just to test opencore to get the lay of the land. My normal system is Mojave on a NVME-SSD, installed on KRYO m.2 pcie-adapter. As my GTX760 is metal-supported but not flashed, when installing Opencore legacy from USB-stick, I had to opt for the TERMINAL-input to choose my USB-Stick EFI... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hello, today as i took the case off for a routine cleanup i noticed that the interior patern of the case (outlined on the magsafe) got imprinted on the back of the phone (most likely its the paint of the textil material from inside the case). I tried to wipe it off with everything, including alcohol and isopropylic alcohol and nothing works. Any ideas? Thank you! Continue reading...

FWIW I had some spare 4TB SSDs laying around and I tested them in my trashcan. WD BLACK PS5 edition (SN850P) 4TB - Fits with the factory heatsink and works good enough to install macOS 12.7 Crucial P3 4TB - Does not work. Can't even boot into the 12.7 USB installer for some reason. Not sure if theres a centralized compatibility thread here. Source: MacRumors
