Which PCI E Nvme Card for 7.1 possibly a 14.8 or M3 Mac Pro
by Guest jcxstar13- 0 replies
I’m looking to finally get a pcie nvme card and I know there’s quite a few people here with them and I’d like to know which brand or go with. Looking at OWC, Sonnet, and Highpoint. Prefer to populate with my own ssd so leaning sonnet or highpoint. I like the fanless design of the sonnet. Is one better/ more reliable than the other? I plan to use this card for some time moving to a 14.8 Mac Pro or eventually the M3 version. Is there still an issue with the computer going to sleep and... Read more Source: MacRumors

Where did vibrate mode go on iPhone 15 Pro/Max?
by Guest TehFalcon- 0 replies
On every iPhone I’ve had I’ve used it exclusively with the switch on vibration. Now with the Action button it is silent mode, which gives me no vibration and obviously no sound making me miss calls and even muting all my alarms. on previous iPhones the switch would make the phone mute notification sounds and the ringer but Alarms would still go off and the phone would vibrate for calls. Is there any way to get this back? Continue reading...

Apple Maps doesn’t recognize my address as home (Japan)
by Guest thewhitehart- 0 replies
I live in Japan. My iPhone uses English as its primary language, and the region is set to the US. Apple Maps gives a correct address for my residence. However, when I add my address to my Contact card as my home, either through Apple Maps or manually, Apple Maps won’t recognize it. It won’t appear as my home under Favorites, and clicking on it from my Contact card results in no matching location. It appears in the search results on Apple Maps too, but clicking on it there results in no... Read more Continue reading...

Question about NVMe SSDs on PCI Expansion Card
by Guest choreo- 0 replies
This may not be the correct forum to post this on, but I have a general ignorance question... On my 7,1 I have a Sonnet M.2 4x4 Silent PCIe Card installed with (3) 1TB Samsung NVMe's installed and configured in RAID 0. If I remove that card and reinstall it, I assume that all the data would remain intact (maybe). But what if I remove the card, swap out for new NVMe's? Does the data still reside on my old NVMe's? Can they be reinstalled if necessary? I guess my real question is what is the... Read more Source: MacRumors

A 4k mystery: Why am I able to output 4k30 over DVI to HDMI via GeForce 760 on a cMP 3,1?
by Guest Dt990- 0 replies

i was making a video about running macOS Sonoma on a Mac Pro 2008. I had it connected to an CamLink 4k to capture the video for things OS installation via a DVI to HDMI cable, the exact model is this, an Amazon Basics cable. The HDMI end is on the Camlink, and the DVI end on the GeForce 760. I then discovered I was able to switch to 4k30 in Sonoma, something that shouldn't be feasible. The cable is DVI-D (but not DVI-DL which is a split bit stream hence why you need active converters... Read more Source: MacRumors

How to clean up a Mac Pro cpu after delidding
by Guest Ashton1- 0 replies
Hi, I'm experimenting with de-lidding a pair of (5677) processors for a Mac Pro I have. I decided to experiment with the "vice method" on an old processor I had left over from another upgrade. The de lidding with the vice went really smoothly....the top seemed to slide over a bit at first and then with a soft pop, it just fell off. Now I'm unsure as to how to clean up the processor properly. I tried scraping off the solder with a plastic card, but it's not smooth.. If I used sandpaper or... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hi I use the SSD Samsung 860 EVO, and I started to have problems with it. The Disk utility found this issue but couldn't fix it. warning: found orphan file extents (id 778311, size 61440) error: found file extent (id 778311) at logical address 0 beyond the end of the dstream 18446744073709551615 warning: apfs_num_directories is not valid (expected 73485, actual 73471) I fixed it with fsck_apfs by using a flash drive with Catalina. I restarted a Mac Pro 5,1, and I see even worse... Read more Source: MacRumors

Adding my Linux Mint drive to MyBootMgr?
by Guest eicca- 0 replies
So I currently use MyBootMgr to chainload OpenCore to boot Mojave, and also to just boot Win10 legacy (without OpenCore). I have a drive that has Linux Mint on it, but said Linux was installed without grub cuz I didn’t want to nuke my MyBootMgr setup. Question now is: how do I get MyBootMgr to see this Linux Mint drive and boot it? In case it’s not obvious, I’m hugely inexperienced at this particular genre of tinkering, but I’m not inept. I just don’t know where to look or what to search... Read more Source: MacRumors

Does anyone know a trick to turn off the Dynamic Island animation on the iPhone 15 Pro? With the iPhone 14 Pro under iOS 16 it was possible. But here on iOS 17 apparently no chance. Using apple maps on iPhone 15 as a stand alone GPS head unit in vehicle
by Guest skerfoot- 0 replies
I have carplay in one vehicle, and it's great. You can see the map up on the dash screen, it gives traffic info, shows streets etc while you're driving even if you don't have it navigating you to a specific destination. In a different, older vehicle we have been using a Garmin that needs to retire. I assumed that I could just get a phone holder and use Maps on the iPhone as a stand alone GPS. Kind of like Carplay mode without the car. However, unless I include a destination it doesn't seem... Read more Continue reading...
