MP 1,1: Issues w/ Radeon 7950 (GV-R795WF3-3GD Rev 1.0)
by Guest Ezzio- 0 replies
Hi Guys. I tried to use a flashed Radeon 7950 (model in subject) on my MacPro 1,1 (2006) flashed to 2,1 and running El Capitan (OSX 10.11.6). With the 7950, the system gives the boot screen and reaches the login screen without any problems. This, however, is where the issues start. As soon as I enter my password in the login, the computer gives me the spinning wheel, starts to load the desktop and then suddenly returns to the login screen. There are times that the MP1,1 lets me play with... Read more Source: MacRumors

Help! I've moved Opencore to the wrong drive
by Guest sirroderick- 0 replies
I just noticed I seem to have moved Opencore from the installer USB to the wrong drive (i.e. not a system drive). I really don't understand how that happened. I''m starting to panic a bit because I've spent several days reinstalling/authorizing all my software from scratch. Everything seems to be working fine so I never noticed. I really don't know how that could have happened. Is it possible to move it to the system drive? Source: MacRumors

by Guest Paul Horowitz- 0 replies
Many advanced Mac users may wish to build a bootable macOS Ventura beta USB install drive, which makes it easy to install macOS Ventura beta onto multiple Macs, different volumes/partitions, and also can serve as a secondary boot recovery drive. As usual with making a bootable MacOS installer, creating one for macOS Ventura beta requires ... Read More Continue reading...

Hi, guys! I have a MacPro 4.1->5.1 (2009) + EVGA GTX680 (flashed) + Apple LED Cinema Display 24" DisplayPort + OCLP + Monterey 12.4. In this configuration, the boot screen displays fine, I can control the boot process. I bought (on Ebay) an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 8GB from MacVidCards Europe. I turned the Mac off, took the GTX680 out, put the RX6600XT in, and turned the computer back on. However, the monitor screen remained black when booting up until the Monterey was fully loaded. The... Mac Pro 5,1 RAM question
by Guest w8ing4intelmacs- 0 replies

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 2.8 single with 16GB (4x4GB). I got a great price on a 16GB stick but it wasn't playing nice with the other memory. After doing research, I guess I got a 16GB RDIMM and my other memory are UDIMMs. So much for my cheap way of upgrading to 28GB. So, do I keep the one stick of 16GB and sell the 4x4GB? There's the part of me that's afraid that RDIMMs are harder to come by and that even if I do buy more RDIMMs, they still won't play nice together. Also, how can you tell if... https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/sys_power-solder-pads-2x-png.933318/ We are quarantined in a rural area working on a big media project for next Spring. This 2012 pro is the only computer we have that will work with the rest of our audio equipment. Got a black screen of death about a week ago. I've never been this deep into computer hardware before. I'm following the instructions in the tech guide linked here beginning on page 33. I have nearly every component removed the computer. These are the instructions I've successfully... I’ve had my internet go out rarely but each time I’ve been able to successfully connect to my iphone’s personal hotspot, however each device does not receive data. my power is currently out and I am able to connect to the internet just fine using LTE, my ipad and Mac both are able to join the hotspot network but both receive no data and all attempts to connect via safari result in a time out. Mobile hotspot did work a few months ago when I connected my phone to my Mac via a usb cord. Does... Read more Continue reading...

Mac Pro 5,1 - MSI RX580 - Apple 5k Studio Display
by Guest Andrew Montreal- 0 replies

Hi everyone, I got my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 running 4k smoothly with an MSI RX580. What I've realized is my eyes need 5k on a 27" screen. I'm considering the Apple Studio Display as I love the solidity of the image at various viewing angles (I am often on various instruments in the studio... not just in front of my screen). I know this has been written about before but I am feeling a little concerned seeing as I am new to this portion of computers. Also, because I intend to buy the screen and... iPhone 2g. NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
by Guest Eloutfi- 0 replies

Hello. I just bought a iPhone 2g 8gb model yesterday. Seller didn't disclose that was activate locked and now I feel defeated. He didn't provide a SIM and I have no absolute way to activate. I tried restoring it by hooking it up to an old version of iTunes. I believe version 10 or 9. It said can't restore. Now it is stuck in at a different screen now and I don't know what the heck to do anymore. Right now I'm not using my other computer that had the old version of iTunes. What happened is I... Several times I dial different numbers I get call failed almost on all attempts even some calls that are established will just drop on its own after few seconds of interaction, my phone still runs on iOS 15.4.1 and I must say this is frustrating, but I don’t know if someone is experiencing this or if it’s limited to most iPhone XR or a bug on its own Continue reading...

Classic Mac Pro 4,1 -> 5,1 driving Ultrafine 5K full resolution.
by Guest EddieK420- 0 replies

I was able to get my classic Mac Pro to drive the LG Ultrafine 5K at full 5K resolution retina mode enabled. I used an Gigabyte Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card inside my Mac Pro. 2 DP cables go from my Nvidia GTX 1080Ti to the Alpine Ridge then the Thunderbolt 3 cable goes from the Alpine Ridge to the Ultrafine 5K. In Windows under Bootcamp everything worked fine immediately at full 5K resolution. Under MacOS (10.13.6) though I would get a black screen. Using the tutorial and kext files... Using an old iPhone as an iPod
by Guest no0nefamous- 0 replies

My friend gave me an old iPhone SE (2016) that still has 100% battery health. I kind of want to set it up as an iPod, WiFi only. My main phone is an iPhone 13 Pro. What's the best way to go about this? If I sign in with my Apple ID on the SE, will it make things screwy with the 13 Pro? Alternatively, should I just create a secondary Apple ID to use with the SE? Messages iCloud issue
by Guest harrisonjr98- 0 replies

I understand there might be a certain amount of recent messages stored locally for quick access, or a cache. But my phone has gotten up to around 30GB of messages stored locally, and my mac around 60GB (the vast majority of this storage being attachments, of course.) I have been using Messages in iCloud since it was released, and my iCloud storage is far from full. Why isn't it "offloading" more from local storage even as my devices get near-full? I wish there was a way to delete all... Read more Continue reading...

Traveling? Beware of Unsecured Hotel Wi-Fi Networks
by Guest Paul Horowitz- 0 replies

Nearly every hotel nowadays offers free wi-fi, but a surprising number of them use unsecured wireless networks. Most commonly, the unsecured networks use a captive portal to access the wi-fi network, where a splash screen pops-up in a web browser window before you are granted further access to the network. Often there’s some marginal login ... Read More Continue reading...
