M1 Mac Pro seems to be cancelled for now...
by Guest rondocap- 0 replies

According to this article from Mac World, the M1 version of the Mac Pro that we thought was coming in some extreme flavor, seems cancelled for now. Apparently Apple is focusing on M2 for now, together is supply issues that are ongoing. This actually makes sense, considering we haven't even seen a small teaser yet like we thought may have happened at WWDC. IMO the GPU part of the 7.1 Mac Pro is still really strong for workflows that use it, the Ultra Mac Studio is still very far behind in... Read more Source: MacRumors

How do you actually install Monterey on a 5,1? Edit: Answer
by Guest Mike Richardson- 0 replies
This is probably really obvious, yet I still don't see it. Sorry. (I also have a lot of apathy for any version past 10.15) I have a MacPro5,1. OpenCore 0.8.2 is installed. It has a "MacVidCards" RX 580. How do I actually go about installing 12.5 Monterey or Monterrey or Mexico or whatever it is? I have a USB install stick that I made. It does not boot, it kernel panics somewhere in the middle. (I boot it by holding Option, then picking EFI so OpenCore loads, then picking the USB drive.)... Read more Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 7.1 owners! What would 8.1 need to be to get you to leave your 7.1 behind?!

What's up community! :) As ya'll who know me know, I run a small indie production company and the heart of it is my 2019 Mac Pro 7.1 It's a 28-Core with 2 W6800X Duos and in GPU Rendering Tests it is equivalent to roughly about 33% under 3 RTX 3090's. Recently it's been revealed that the RTX 4090's are roughly 30% faster than the RTX 3090's...meaning 1 W6800X Duo is about equivalent to 1 RTX 4090 "and first of all, holy hell that 4090 is a powerful card considering 1 w6800x duo is... Use 3 DisplayPort’s or 2 DP and 1 HDMI PULSE RX 580 8G
by Guest Jigga Beef- 0 replies

I’ve used my Sapphire RX580 8 GB with three display port outputs to 3 Samsung 4K monitors only my Mac Pro 5,1 After browsing around here it seems like most people that drive 3 displays use 2X DP cables and 1 HDMI. Is there any benefit to switching to that method or am I giving up any performance using all 3 DisplayPort ports? This is a link to the card I have. OCLP Monterey 12.4 USB power
by Guest sirroderick- 0 replies

There seems to be a USB power issue on OCLP Monterey 12.4. I don't have any diagnostic gear to confirm this but I can't think what else could explain it. I have a USB powered MIDI Keyboard (Kawai VPC1) which no longer works in Monterey but when I switch back to Catalina it's fine again. In Monterey the power LED flashes on the Keyboard which probably indicates a power issue but the clincher is when I unplug the USB cable from the Mac Pro and plug it into my monitor the VPC1 works perfectly... by Guest chacheebuns- 0 replies

Hey all, I recently picked up some 2x x5690's and installed them in my cMP. In windows, under system information, its only using 1 cpu out of the 2 (showing 6 cores, 12 processors) but under device manager showing 24 processors. I originally thought it was because i had windows home edition so I upgraded to pro and im still getting the same issue. Any ideas? Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 2010 vs. Mac Pro Server 2010 differences?
by Guest chrisrm9208- 0 replies
I have, for various reasons, bought a cMP Server 2010 to act as backup for my cMP2010 workhorse; if it dies, I swap drives to the Server version and continue... But... I use OCLP to bring Monterey 12.5 up on my cMP, and all is well. It just works. If I try the same thing on the Server, it just doesn't. Has anyone any concrete views as to the logical differences between the two? The only thing I've found so far is that the case release can be padlocked but that's it as far as physical... Hello, this is my first time on this forum so I hope this is the correct place to ask this question. I own two Mac Pro (Late 2013) "trashcans". With one, I had been using two Apple Cinema Displays, both 27" Model A1316. Mac Pro (Late 2013) Processor: 2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5 Memory: 64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 Graphics: AMD FirePro D700 6 GB Two days ago, all the Thunderbolt ports on my first Mac Pro stopped working. I had upgraded to Monterey a few weeks ago and everything was working fine... Read more Source: MacRumors

Correct passcode not unlocking device
by Guest lip008- 0 replies

I bought a brand new iPhone 13 Pro Max in December. - I set the passcode and left it on for a few weeks. - Got annoyed and turned passcode off. - In June I thought I lost the phone so I figured it would be good idea to enable some type of security again. - Go into the settings for the passcode to turn it on. - Enter passcode one time. - Verify passcode second time. - Enter password associated to my email address. - Phone seemed to stutter for a second or two then resumed. - I press the... Mac Pro 4,1 and a 5th PCI-E connector?
by Guest joelkalsi- 0 replies

The airport connector looks like a mini PCI-E connector and it got me thinking has anyone equipped this port with anything other than a wifi/bt card? It may lack a +5V or +12V power pin as there are separate wires for the airport card (which include the antenna, but one of them is for power?) but I was thinking it could be fixed with the wire available. I couldn't find any info about this connector/port being used for some other use, ie. for USB3 upgrade with the help of an extension cable... Read more Source: MacRumors

Issue with RX 580 in 5,1.
by Guest thewoolysheep08- 0 replies

Installed a Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 4gb into my 5,1 using a dual mini 6-pin to 8-pin. Im running Martin Lo's OC 0.8.0 on 10.15.7. The issue i am experiencing is when exporting from adobe media encoder with hardware acceleration. After starting the export, all my screens will go black and the GPU fans will kick up to 100%. Im assuming this is the automatic power restriction preventing the card from drawing too much power. Im confused since this 580 with only 1 8-pin shouldn't be drawing more... looking for nMP AMD FirePro D700 EFI ROM
by Guest mikeboss- 0 replies

just like the title says, I'm looking for the AMD FirePro D700 EFI ROM. I have a Radeon HD 7970, flashed with EFI and it works just fine except when I try to boot/install Windows 8.1 in EFI mode, it crashes. I thought that maybe it would be possible to flash the VGA BIOS from MacPro6,1 to the 7970..? I couldn't find the ROM file(s) anywhere on the net. Source: MacRumors

Hey, I flash GTX 680s for Mac compatibility. I’ve flashed dozens of them. I snagged a deal on a genuine EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition. I bought it, but it doesn’t work. I get this weird green screen when I turn it on and a purple screen while booting. It boots 75% of the way and then it reboots. Does anyone know what this is? Thank you! Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 5,1 Ram Compatibility

Hello. I'm new to the MAC world and don't know much about them yet. Within the last 2 years or so I obtained a Mac Pro 5,1 dual processor that had bootcamp installed and running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit OS. The computer runs very well with the set up/hardware it has in it but I wanted to upgrade it as I use this computer for work and personal use and tend to have a ton of applications open and things running on it that have caused it several times to max out the available ram and cause it... Mac Pro 2013 - Upgrading from Mojave to Monterey
by Guest goodwill- 0 replies

Hi all, I am doing the research before upgrading my 2013 Trash Can Mac Pro to Monterey. I currently am using Mojave without issue and I am looking for a bit of feedback as to whether it is 'safe' to make the upgrade in terms of functionality etc.. with the Late 2013 Mac Pro using the Monterey OS or is upgrading to Catalina the more reliable upgrade? Attached are currently computer specs FWIW. Cheers! Source: MacRumors
