Mac Pro 2010 - is flashed RX 580 preventing OCLP Monterey install?
by Guest sirroderick- 0 replies
Can't seem to install OCLP Monterey on my 2010 Mac Pro. I've successfully installed it on my other two 2009 Mac Pros and I'm just applying the same procedure with the 2010 model but the installer USB gets stuck right at the 'reboot with OPT key pressed' stage. Basically the installer won't mount. I've tried multiple times recreating the installer with different drives but to no avail. Apart from being a 2010 model the only other difference is it has an RX 580 8GB video card installed. The... Read more Source: MacRumors

External Hard Disk Question
by Guest bigpoppa- 0 replies

I bought a 16tb SATA drive and stuck it in an external case linked by USB. Formatted it just fine with HFS. Then after a month I wanted to try sliding it into the case and use a direct connection through SATA but the system doesn't see the formatted drive. Any ideas that would help? Source: MacRumors

What card is this? And help needed
by Guest Andrew Montreal- 0 replies

Hi all, I am very new to all of this. Never done anything like it. I am attempting to upgrade the video card in my Mac Pro 2010 3.33 hexacore (El Captian) from an HD5870 to an RX580 (with ideally Mojave). I just drove a total of five hours to pick up what was being sold as an AMD Radeon RX 580. When I got home, I realized that it’s not in fact an AMD RX580. It’s possibly an MSI RX580. Thing is I can’t find a similar card in Google searches. Anyone know what this is? Also… Does someone... Read more Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 5,1 Internal Tiny USB Hub Install
by Guest randomdamage- 0 replies
Hi All, Thought I'd post a picture of my completed install of a 4-port Tiny USB hub in my 5,1 Mac Pro. I have this wired to the standard Bluetooth USB connector, JA120. I used the original Bluetooth cable, cut the end off, and soldered the wires directly to the upstream USB port connections on the Tiny Hub board. I bought this board from Retrocution. One port is used for the upgraded Bluetooth board (you can see the antenna extension cable taped down just above it) and two ports are... Read more Source: MacRumors

Guide to flash HD 7950/7970/280/280X for Mac EFI

Quoted myself from https://www.macgpu.com/how-to-flash-hd-7950-for-mac-pro.html Original post is in http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,5619.0.html A GTX680 or HD 7950/7970/280/280X is still the best GPU option for old Mac Pro if you want both Metal and boot screen. (Opencore is a different question). While GTX 680 is the easiest thing to flash, Radeon cards are need a patch rom. NOTE: only DVI port works for boot screen after this flash. netkas's guide have two problems... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hey y'all! Long time reader first time poster. :) Been using my 5,1 with Big Sur running off of NVMe for a good while now. Firmware update and going backwards
by Guest Andrew Montreal- 0 replies
Hi all, I am doing tests with my new video card. I created a new drive for all this to keep me original drive intact. It requires that I move to high sierra. I am presently at El Capitan. It also requires that I do firmware updates, both for High Sierra as well as Mojave. If I do these firmware updates will it prevent me from being able to return back to El Capitan with my original hard drive? Thanks. Andrew Source: MacRumors

FCP & My 7.1 VS my Studio Ultra
by Guest Rr697- 0 replies

Alright guys I need some help here. I’m a pro video editor working on FCP (proxy-less workflow) and I have an employee that edits next to me and I’m upgrading their machine from a iMac 27” to either my newish Mac Studio Ultra or my 7.1 Mac Pro. Although to be honest I need some help deciding which machine to use OR possibly upgrade my 7.1. I’ve run a lot of real life editing tests which I mention below. Keep in mind I own both and I’d like to keep them separate rather than use my employees... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hey gang. When I get in the car, the phone connects to the the stereo and music plays right away. The issue is that if making call or receiving a call I am forced to select which blue tooth device I want to connect to. The only other device attached is my fitbit. I have deleted the connection from my phone. I have re-initialized the stereo and re-paired them. I have restarted the phone. Is there some setting to set this default that cannot find? Your help is appreciated! Continue reading...

Siri Asked Me to Unlock Phone First

I have the setting "Allow Siri When Locked" on, yet often Siri tells me to unlock my phone first. What's the point of turning the setting "Allow Siri When Locked" on if she keeps asking me to unlock my phone when I ask her something. Some things she will answer but others like if I ask her when my birthday is, she wants me to unlock my phone first. Continue reading...

iPhone Contacts Issue - One Name Appears on Every Number at Work
by Guest eradiatest- 0 replies

Here's a weird issue I've run into on my iPhone 12 Pro, fully updated iOS. I have a contact (call him "Joe Blow") who appears as the name of every caller I get from any phone at my workplace. If I have Joe Blow in my Contacts list, entered either manually or from a past call, and I make a call from our office phones at a large org (with hundreds of phones) to my iPhone, he will appear as who is calling. If I remove the contact (and I mean completely purge every trace of him in Contacts)... Read more Continue reading...

Everyone's fingerprints unlock iPhone SE!
by Guest AGoldenSky- 0 replies

My son's just noticed that everyone's fingerprints can unlock his phone (iPhone SE 2020 - iOS 15.6). I've deleted the existing fingerprints, reset the phone and just added the print from my right thumb yet I can use all of my fingers, my son's and my wife's to unlock the phone. I'm either missing a really basic setting or there's something weird going on - any ideas...? Continue reading...

iPhone locked to owner and data wiped out
by Guest SHZ- 0 replies

Hello, Last week my iPhone 11 was "Locked to Owner" on its own and later reset up as a new phone with all data wiped out. I have since been puzzled with this question: How could this have happened? The following was my experience. Hope someone can shed some light on this question. Last week I was in a trip and doing a guided mountainous hiking. At the advice of the guide, we put our iPhones in the Airplane mode to save power. My wife was with me. She has an iPhone 12 and has my... Read more Continue reading...

I like looking at old screen time but it keeps deleting old weeks and the last day it shows is July 3rd when I want a lot older dates than that. On the top of that week it says “down six percent from last week” so that means there is some rememberance of old weeks and with all the hacking technologies out there I think it’s possible, but I’ve asked multiple Reddit communities and none of them were able to help so I am really hoping you guys can. Thanks. Continue reading...

Hi all, I've just bought an iPhone 13 and trying not to make the same mistakes as I did with my SE 2020 which saw it's battery capacity go below 85% in just a year. I know the 13 has a bigger battery and I'm already noticing that I don't need to charge it as much as I did with the SE 2020 but I've heard conflicting things in terms of maintaining battery health as much as I can. One of the things I've heard is to always use the Apple 5W charger and always use Apple's official cables. Is... Read more Continue reading...

Ever wanted to enhance the webcam on your Mac? For example, tweak the brightness, contrast, saturation, or even flip the camera horizontally? These things can be done using third-party software called virtual cameras. The built-in FaceTime cameras on most Macs record at 720p, which is not particularly good for today’s standards. Note to Mac Pro Newbies
by Guest OldMacPro2- 0 replies

Just want to say, as a relatively "Mac Pro Newbie" here, just wanted to pass along some advice. If you have suddenly come into the possession of a Mac Pro 3,1 or 4,1 or 5,1.....for the first time: 1) DO NOT RUSH to make a bunch of hardware or software changes. 2) Read, read and re-read this forum and follow the suggested links. 3) Think carefully about what you want to do with this system. 4) Some changes are irreversable! Don't brick your new box. I know you're excited to... Read more Source: MacRumors

NVIDIA Quadro K6000 (12GB GDDR5) - will it work NATIVELY?
by Guest zedex- 0 replies

I would appreciate feedback from anyone that understands the 'vagaries' of Kepler architecture and Apple NVIDIA native driver support. I have owned a GTX Titan that works like a treat from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 through to High Sierra 10.13.6 I like this GPU because it has 6GB GDDR5 Video RAM and most NVIDIA GPUs are light on VRAM. I want to swap it for a Quadro K6000 (12GB VRAM) this GPU is still KEPLER - but I noticed that the Kepler chip ID is GK110B which is different from the GTX TITANs... Read more Source: MacRumors

1TB SSD -> 8TB SSD, cable type needed?
by Guest cobra521- 0 replies

I have a 7,1 Mac Pro with an Apple 1TB SSD boot drive which I'll be upgrading to an Apple 8TB SSD boot drive. Each SSD works with the Apple T2 chipset. I'll be using a Mid-2015 Retina 15" Macbook Pro to do the configuration for the 7,1 after the new SSD is physically installed. Apple says to use a USB-C to USB-C cable, but of course the Macbook doesn't have a USB-C port; it has two Thunderbolt 2 ports, and two USB 3 ports and an HDMI port. I have an HP USB 3.0 to USB-C cable. Will this... Read more Source: MacRumors

hello all :) so I own a Mac Pro 1,1/2,1 that I have upgraded substantially over time and I am always looking to upgrade it when possible. now one thing I have wanted for it was a ATI Radeon 7950/7970/R9 280/X for it as they are the fasted GPUs you can fit to a EFI32 Mac Pro with Boot screens. so a few days ago I found a Nice 7950 for a very nice price on ebay so I jumped on it. the card in question is a Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7950 GV-R795WF3-3GD rev 2.0...
