SE Gen 2 suddenly not charging wirelessly
by Guest PKIDelirium- 0 replies

Out of the clear blue sky, my SE2 has quit charging on the Belkin Boost Charge stand ("Only at Apple" special edition). I picked it up off the charger, and was surprised to see it showing 40% battery. Thinking I hadn't set it fully in place against the charger surface, I put it back, but no charge. Unplugged the charger and plugged it back in, the green light on the front came on for a moment and then back off. Put the phone back on, no charge. Plugged it in with Lightning and it charged... I entered the passcode incorrectly too many times -> led to iPhone being erased. After restoring it, I got a no SIM card error. It turns out that indeed, there was no SIM card. It also turns out that this is the first time I've looked for a SIM card. I think when I received the iPhone, it was already activated (for AT&T) and did not actually have a physical SIM card, so maybe it was using eSIM all along, right from the beginning (this iPhone is from September 2021, iPhone 13 Pro Max)... Mac Pro 2013 - SSD help
by Guest Mijaur01- 0 replies
I was preparing my Mac Pro 2013 for sale. I have the original Apple SSD and I successfully set that one up for sale so this isn't an end-of-the-world situation. I had upgraded the SSD in the Mac Pro to a Samsung 970 Evo (which has worked flawlessly for over a year). I erased the SSD and then went to clean load OS X when the computer presented me with a black screen with a folder and a question mark. I went into recovery mode and disk utility is only showing OS X Base System 1.3 GB (this... Read more Source: MacRumors

2013 Mac Pro Serial Number
by Guest SpotOnT- 0 replies

Bit of an odd question. Anyone ever come across a Trash Can Mac Pro where the last four digits of the serial number were: N1VX? I have never seen a reference to this model before, but just came across one by chance and am trying to determine what was the original configuration (CPU/GPU/RAM/SSD) and if it was a refurbished model. Only reference I could find to it on Google was from the open core GitHub, which basically just confirms it exists. Source: MacRumors

Overprovisioning?
by Guest haralds- 0 replies
My last system SSD died after two years of heavy use. Some reports indicate that overprovisioning has benefits. But it seems like as long as trim is enabled and the drive is left with a lot of free space the same impact is achieved. I am using dual MX500 2TB for system and data formatted APFS. On Windows the Crucial Storage executive provides a special function to reserve space for OP. I can see the need for OP designated space without trim. No clear answer in articles I searched. 5,1 ram mismatch
by Guest basslik- 0 replies

I have three different pairs of memory in my Mac Pro. speed and cas Latency are the same, even the model numbers are almost the same except a letter here or there different. Total of 128. I read on OWC that the memory sticks should all match? I really haven't had any issues so far except the usual hiccups pro Tools is known for. I do have 48 megs from OWC. Should I use it instead of the mismatch, even though it's half the memory, yet running triple channel. THANK YOU Source: MacRumors

Boot Manager: A Boot Screen Alternative in the status bar of your Mac.
by Guest abdyfranco- 0 replies
https://github.com/abdyfranco/boot-manager/raw/master/src/assets/banner.jpg Due to the requirement to have a Metal compatible graphics card to install Mojave, many users upgraded their graphics cards to PC cards that do not have EFI firmware and therefore cannot display the Startup Manager (also known as Boot Screen). Many Mac Pro users usually install Windows in dual boot using Boot Camp or in EFI mode, and even some install even Linux. Due to the lack of boot screen, it is... Read more Source: MacRumors

Slow 5GHz Wifi on 2009 Mac Pro (BCM94322MC)
by Guest Sharky II- 0 replies

Hi, I've actually sold my Mac Pro - I used it wired via ethernet but wanted to sell it with WiFi as I thought that it might be more useful for buyers - mine was a rare 2009 that had BT but no WiFi. Mac Pro spec is in signature below. I purchased a (second hand) stock card for a Mac Pro 2009: Apple Mac Pro 2009 2010 4.1 to 5.1 WIFI Wireless Card BCM94322MC 825-7215-A Issue: I'm getting poor 5GHz speeds especially on download (around 35Mb/s) - slower than 2.4GHz in fact. And much... Read more Source: MacRumors

https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/screen-shot-2022-07-14-at-1-03-28-pm-png.2029839/ Hello, I installed my RX580 a long time ago, propbably not an efficent or properly working install, but working (relative term). The fans have never worked on it, so I decided to stop using the Mac Pro and shelve it for awhile (two years later).. I have been reading the related RX580 threads and am not seeing my unique scenario for my fans not working. I see that there may be an improper method of using the power cables, and there might be a way to resolve the fans not... Read more Source: MacRumors

7,1 is the last Mac Pro that run GPUs from Intel, AMD and Nvidia dGPUs via PCI-e slot
by Guest exoticSpice- 0 replies
Sadly, the 7,1 will be the Mac Pro do so. I don't think Apple's dGPUs will be cost effective compared to other high-end cards In the future maybe for the Druid line from Intel we may see competing with AMD and Nvidia and this givs 7,1 owners to try those GPUs from Intel too. what the 8,1 won't have is the GPU versatility that the 7,1 will have? Apple's GPUs don't even have Hardware based Ray-tracing yet and all major vendors (AMD, Intel and Nvidia) do. Source: MacRumors

Wow that old graphics card was a mess!

So, I have been slow going through this Mac Pro 4,1 a little bit at time. This is one I bought off Facebook for about $40. It was missing the side cover, any of the drive trays, and was some what dusty inside. So, I've cleaned it out to get the big dust bunnies out, found a side cover on eBay, and got a drive tray with an adapter for a Patriot SSD that I had. Now I can boot it up and run High Sierra (thanks to dosdude1). Today was the first day that I noticed that there was some... Read more Source: MacRumors

Um....one more thing....the DVD ROM drive will not eject in this MP 4,1
by Guest OldMacPro2- 0 replies

So, I thought I had tried all the IO on this rescued cMP 4,1, but only got around to trying to eject the CD/DVD drive tray a little while ago. I've tried all the usual things - eject key, Command-e, running the eject thing on the command line. I can hear the drive trying, but it won't open the door and pop out. System info sees the drive. Guess I am a little stumped. Do I tear into the drive bay? Suggestions? Source: MacRumors

Apple accessing deceased family member's account
by Guest bsamoul- 0 replies
Hi all - was hoping you could help me out. Per How to request access to a deceased family member's Apple account, Apple can't get around the passcode on devices because they're stored on the device itself, but they can unlock their iCloud account so the phone can be erased and restored from backup. Has anyone actually had experience with this? My biggest concern is how the iCloud account gets "unlocked". Does a password reset email get sent to that email? We don't have access to the email and it probably... Read more Continue reading...

Why are Mac Pro buyers purchasing Apple RAM?
by Guest Joseph Murphy- 0 replies

As a near neophyte I hesitate to ask but in the Apple refurbished store I see many many MacPro with APPLE supplied RAM and am wondering why almost all MacPro buyers do not use less costly aftermarket RAM? Tech savvy I am not, but I am curious. Source: MacRumors

Help needed!
by Guest KevM25- 0 replies

Hey. So, I have a Mac Pro 5,1 late 2010, I followed the instructions from a Mr Macintosh video on how to install Monterey on to my device. There comes a point when in the video, he says to set it so that we can boot from the SSD. Set the boot option thing to boot without the USB. But, when I restart, I get a weird terminal looking thing, that doesn’t allow me to boot Monterey, something to do with Firmware. I don’t know what to do. I’m running a 1tb Crucial BX500 SSD. Any help would be... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hi all. I am looking for a solution that does not run into $100’s of dollars to connect an external USB-C or 2 drives via the Thunderbolt 2 port. I am aware of the CalDigit TS 3 as a solution but I am hoping to find a more economical one. Any advice will be very much appreciated. Cheers Max Source: MacRumors

Speech To Text Has Partially Stopped Working
by Guest DCBUS- 0 replies

Hello, My wife and I both have Iphone X phone on Verizon and running IOS 15.5. All of a sudden both of our phones, "The Speech to Text" has partially stopped working. Either Siri runs in a circle and keeps asking What Would you Like to Say, or it only partially adds what we say into the text message. I have reset the settings, re-booted the phone, and turned on and off dictation just to see if it would reset. Still the same issue. Is this a IOS issue, or a issued from Verizon. Thank you Continue reading...

Clock background usage
by Guest AshenPaladin- 0 replies

Ever since iOS 15.2 or 15.3 I believe I've been encountering random spikes of background usage for the default Clock app. It's not particularly connected to anything, since I usually have a single alarm scheduled (the one from Sleep Schedule) and I don't have any timers ongoing or anything that could justify it. I usually don't have the app open and ever since I've noticed it I've been a lot more careful about swiping the Clock app away/closing it, without any noticeable effect. Once it... by Guest macstatic- 0 replies

I've installed a Sonnet Allegro 4-port USB 3.2 PCIe card in my cMP 5.1 running MacOS 10.13, but for some reason my iPad Mini (5th gen/iOS 13.5.1) displays "Not charging" (upper right-hand corner along with the clock, battery status etc.). Syncing with iTunes on my Mac works fine. Any idea what is causing this and what I can do about it? Source: MacRumors
