How Long will Apple Support 7,1 Mac Pro with Mac OS?
by Guest Chevron- 0 replies
I have been considering buying a 7,1 Mac Pro and am curious how long they might be supported for Mac OS. Of course that means speculation I assume. I had a 5,1 mac for many years and it got to the stage where the GPU and other hardware needed upgrading to keep up with recent Mac OS updates. Is there anything to suggest the 7,1 MPs will meet a similar fate? Source: MacRumors

So I've done some internet and YouTube searches already. I have my photos organized in albums on my S10. How can I transfer them to my 13 Pro? I have the Google photos app but they're organized by date and not albums. I have over 15k photos and videos. I don't want to reorganize by creating albums. I tried using the Share It app buy it stalls before reaching 2k photos. If I use iTunes in my PC an I upload albums onto iTunes? Any help would be great. Thanks. Continue reading...

Just bought a new iPhone SE... then the trouble started...

Hi folks! This is an unusual issue, so it doesn't really fit into any specific forum on the MacRumors site. This forum was the closest, so here goes... I just bought a brand-new unlocked iPhone SE (2022) from Apple's web-site. I was thrilled to receive it. In the past, I had bought a couple of other unlocked smartphones (Motorola G series phones, running Android) and bought SIM card kits from TracFone Wireless (pay-as-you-go, minutes-based plans) for "bring your own phone" contingencies... Been reading the Definitive cMP Upgrade Blog. Searching for a PCI USB expansion card. Found the usual Sonnet or FebSmart cards, but not seeing anything that has both USB A and C ports that gets acceptable reviews. Anything that works for a 5,1 on Mojave these days? Source: MacRumors

iPhone won't receive mail on 4G
by Guest Peter Franks- 0 replies

I am on an older iPhone, but I don't think that is the issue, it's an iPhone 8 but I have this problem with the Mail app, only when on 4G. I can get on Safari no issues when out and about and it loads fine, but 'Mail' will not update messages, and comes up with the error message updated ‘2020' when checking for new mail! Was out for 3 hours yesterday and was turning phone on and off, and airplane mode on and off and it makes no difference. Problem being, my email provider blames my mobile... Hi, I can see on eBay the sr171 vs sr19h xeon processors haveing the same egzact specs. Is it because the 171 is a oem part while the 19h is retail? Any chance the 171 will work fine in a Mac Pro 6,1? Source: MacRumors

Speaker Grill is loose
by Guest Zyon22- 0 replies

I just got my screen replaced at apple today because of the gap issue on the phone. Sadly the new screen just moved the gap to the top instead of bottom. Even worse it seems the Speaker Grill is loose and can be moved around the top gap pretty effortlessly. I can stick paper in the gap under the grill too. Does anyone have any idea how the Grill is attached and if anyone has this issue. I have already been to the apple store 3 times first time was from the screen clicking and then the... Does anyone know how to make the photo widget utilize the entire photo library on iPhone/iPad? Mine seems to stick to the same 30 or so photos and I don't know how they are chosen or how to influence it to choose from a wider variety. Can the Photo widget on the Mac also be controlled (if possible)? Continue reading...

Is there an easy way to switch between GPUs?
by Guest veilrain- 0 replies
For context, I have a rx580 that came with the Mac Pro and a 6900XT I bought later. I could just use 6900XT but the problem is that it's producing so much heat. I live in a place where I don't have AC in my room so it gets too hot in the summer. I would like to use 6900XT only in certain programs like blender and having it completely off when I don't need that graphics computing power. From my testing, the program only uses the GPU that the primary display is connected to unless the program... Read more Source: MacRumors

Storage flexibility Built-in Vs. PCI
by Guest mattspace- 0 replies
Another basic question for folks who've worked with it - are there any downsides to the internal storage in terms of flexibility with its use. Can it be partitioned and have different operating systems (or user home directory kept separate from OS) installed on it, or is multi-booting really best done with separate physical drives? Thinking of secondhand systems, and wondering if there's any point to paying for a built-in storage larger than necessary for the primary operating system &... Read more Source: MacRumors

MPX Vs Off-the-shelf GPUs
by Guest mattspace- 0 replies

Just wondering if folks could chime in on the differences between an MPX Vs. an Off-The-Shelf GPU that may not seem obvious. Stability has obviously been something that seems to have bounced around a bit. The MPX 6800 having double the VRAM of the retail one, for example is obvious. But what are the things to look for in display support, the system stealing display capacity to route to the built-in ports, what provides a better DisplayPort experience - a retail card or the DP alt mode in a... Mac Pro 3,1 NVMe support + Upgrade Guide + Questions

Hello everybody! I'm newly owner of MP 3,1 and I want to discuss upgrading of this nice but old machine with you. I suggest everyone to take part in creating this guide. Now I will post my achievement in making it bootable from NVMe SSD. Bootable NVMe Note: it can be dangerous for your MP 3,1, you can brick it if something goes wrong while flashing ROM. It's hard to repair, because you should unsolder chip, flash it with external usb programmer and then solder it... Read more Source: MacRumors

2010 5,1 Mac Pro, Monterey, OpenCore Legacy Patcher, OSXWifi bluetooth wifi upgrade
by Guest kherman- 0 replies

Currently running Monterey 12.3.1 on a 2010 5,1 Mac Pro desktop. Installed it using OpenCore Legacy Patcher v0.4.4 . I did the post-install root patching as the patcher showed I needed Networking - Legacy Wireless. Both the original Apple bluetooth and Wifi card are working flawlessly. My question is if I wanted to upgrade both cards to get Airdrop/Handoff etc., can this be done by simply reverting the root patches in the OpenCore Legacy Patcher app then install the upgraded wifi/bluetooth... 2013 Mac Pro external drive unmount problem
by Guest SignalHill- 0 replies

I have a 2013 Mac Pro. This machine is used exclusively in my recording studio. OS 10.14.6. Sometimes when I try to shut the computer down it sticks on the black screen with spinning gray wheel and will never shutdown, even if left over night. I have to hold the power button to force a shutdown. The issue seems to be that the external hard drives do not unmount. I can tell when this is going to happen because when I click "ShutDown" the two front panel lights on my thunderbolt G Drives do... Read more Source: MacRumors

Did Catalina ever become good with OpenCore etc?
by Guest mattspace- 0 replies
I know Catalina had a pretty bad reputation, but with setting up a Big Sur machine for someone, I just find so many things about the UI changes nauseatingly bad to the point where I just don't see myself ever wanting to take that ride, unless they revert a lot of its direction. So for security updates, for software compatibility for new apps etc, did Catalina ever get its s^&t together as a good daily driver OS? Source: MacRumors

Worth purchasing Mac Pro 7,1 or wait?
by Guest subroutines- 0 replies

I am curious to know some thoughts from folks about the pending Silicon chip-powered Mac Pro and its impact on the intel-based Mac Pro 7,1. I am thinking of upgrading from current Mac Pro to next one but in terms of performance I was wondering if getting 7,1 be worth getting or would it be not worth it if there is Silicon (8,1) Mac Pro. If there is a Silcion Mac Pro would the 7,1 be worth it or somewhat pointless? Source: MacRumors

Hi so verizon unlocked my phoen after paying it off, but in the cellular settings, it still lists my old verizon # which i no longer have. How can i get rid of it so phone calls don't default to that (leading to an annoying popup to try the next eSIM)?? do i have to wipe the phoen completely and start over? that would be annoying. what if i just delete network settings, will that get rid of the verizon #/SIM (not sure if it's a physical or eSIM). Thanks muchly! Continue reading...
