Transitioning from Internal to External drives
by Guest turtlebud- 0 replies

Any experience and advice on transitioning from a Mac Pro with internal SATA drives to a Mac Desktop without user accessible internal drives? My 2008 Mac Pro is sadly past it's prime and I've been looking into options to replace it to use for storing/editing photos/videos as well as normal household things like surfing the web, paying bills, doing taxes, watching videos, etc. My before dream was an affordable (haha) updated Mac Pro with space for internal drives, but I am accepting the... Is it possible to flash an R9 Fury with MacEFI ROM?
by Guest imrazor- 0 replies

According to a couple of posts it is possible to use one of these monsters in a Mac Pro 5,1, but in the same manner as an unflashed Polaris/4xx/5xx series card. In other words, no native boot screen. Do these cards have encrypted BIOS? Is it possible to reflash them to have a native boot screen when booting on a Mac? Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 5,1 crashes with LINE app voice or video calls / Current status update #6

2022/03/11 - Updated in #6 Status : Using virtual windows ------------------ While this may be difficult to understand or troubleshoot, I'll try to describe it as carefully as possible. Because of remote work, I wanted to add a Webcam to my Mac Pro 5,1 at home to handle any kind of voice or video conferencing. I did buy the Webcam and it works fine, the system recognizes it correctly, both the microphone and the camera are plugged in and ready to use, and FaceTime works. But after using... Odds of upgrade path to”m series core” for Mac Pro 2019
by Guest snugja- 0 replies

I had a crazy idea, but I’m wondering if Apple intends to make the Tower Mac Pro upgradable somehow. Hear me out I wonder if there would be some sort of core module that could be a designer built or does the architecture of the current NMP have specific limitations as far as making it upgradable. It seems odd to me that Apple would make a product meant for pros and stress modularity without some path to conversion from Intel to Apple Silicon. However, Apple has not been known in the past... 6900XT + Apple's New Monitor
by Guest SDAVE- 0 replies

Hey guys I have an OEM 6900XT that's working great in a 2019 Mac Pro connected to dual LG4k 27" monitors running at 4k via DisplayPort. I know that TB3 isn't routed through since I took out the 580X (really horrible GPU btw). Will there be a way for us with OEM GPUs to use the new Apple Studio Display? Specifically two of them. I know Sonnet makes a GPU (probably with a different firmware) that allows to use the USBC port as TB3? Or do we need to get the MPX module? Source: MacRumors

MP 5,1 won't finish Monterey installation

HELP needed, My CMP 4,1 => 5,1 has had an NVME boot drive for the past few years and it was running great, I added OC to a small ssd in slot 1 and was able to install Big Sur successfully. After updating to Monterey (quite easily ) my bluetooth stoped working and all hell broke loose. I originally installed Monterey on the small ssd that has OC on it, and used that to install it to the NVME. (same way I did with Catalina and Big Sur), it worked fine. While trying to resolve the Bluetooth... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hi all, I know I have asked something similar, but now seeing the new mac studio is on the way has me rethinking about this. I have some older software and hardware that is also intel based. The mac studio has newer ports and technology, but the M1 chip would not allow me to use some of my older software such as Adobe CS6, of which I paid a lot for, and it is not subscription based, I hate subscription based software. I also have scanners and a printer that work, but I may end up having to... Read more Source: MacRumors

Humiliated 7.1
by Guest TobiasT- 0 replies

Well, we all know what happened: Apple humiliated Mac Pro 7.1. A "cheap" Mac Studio is more powerful than the ultra expensive Mac Pro 7.1. And this is happening only two years after the release of Mac Pro 7.1. One must be crazy to buy a Mac Pro 7.1 now. Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro (2019) sudden shutdowns/ sleep issues
by Guest Romanesco- 0 replies

I received my Mac Pro (2019) on December 19 and it has been working fine since. Last week I added a PCIe card with a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB Solid State Drive for my Windows/ Bootcamp. Last night (Dec 28) I had my first issue -- the Mac Pro wouldn't turn back on after going to sleep (in Windows). Today, I had the same exact thing happen but in macOS. The only way to boot it back up was to pull out and reconnect the power cable. Before blowing this up any further, has anyone experienced... Read more Source: MacRumors

Two-Factor Codes Sent by Apple Don't Work
by Guest Nanasooshi- 0 replies

I have searched, but I have not been able to find this particular issue elsewhere. If it exists, my apologies. I noticed a couple of days ago, my iPad was asking for the two-factor code. I clicked, apple sent the code directly to my iPad. When I entered it, it said I had entered the wrong code. Thinking, I had made an error, I tried again, same problem. (To clarify, I switch back and forth between iPhone and Android. I was using my Android at the time, so the code went directly to iPad.)... Read more Continue reading...

GPU switching on a 4,1/5,1 Mac Pro with two GPUs installed?
by Guest CosmicScale- 0 replies

I’ve got the stock Nvidia GT 120 and an AMD RX 560 instated in my Mac Pro 4,1 (5,1 firmware) running High Sierra. I’ve got one screen plugged into the GT 120 and another plugged into the RX 560. Interestingly when I go to “About This Mac” the “Displays” tab shows both screen as connected to the “AMD R9 xxx”. I know with a MacBook Pro you can switch between your integrated and discrete GPU. I was wondering if it is possible to swap which GPU is active on a Mac Pro with two graphics cards? Source: MacRumors

How do you use the 2nd ethernet port on your Mac Pro 5,1's?
by Guest Jigga Beef- 0 replies

I recently went all Unifi so i have an old but working Time Capsule around. I don't have a use for it as a network switch but I still backup my Mac Pro 5,1 to the drive inside and my 2 laptops to a connected USB drive. These really just serve as a secondary backup for all machines. I have a spot under my desk next to my Mac Pro that the TC could go and I think I can use the 2nd ethernet port to connect it to the network. But then I realized I Never even thought about the 2nd port before... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hi all, I have an iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 15.3.1. Lately I have had issues with the DTMF tones working on calls to certain menu driven call locations. Like when calling a business and it asks for you to input 1 for the directory or 0 for an operator. Many times (not always), no matter how hard or how many times I push the phone's number pad, I get no response. Anyone else have these issues? When I call from my home phone, these calls always work. by Guest Dayvidpriddy- 0 replies

Ever since I purchased my HomePod Mini's for the living room (left & right setup), "hey Siri" will NOT work on my iPhone when I'm home. The screen lights up for a second and then turns off, Siri never responds to anything. I know it has something to do with the HomePod Mini's and I can't figure out what the issue is. When I'm not home, it works fine. Thanks Continue reading...

While studying I went to close my blinds and they fell off the wall right onto my macbook pro. Now my screen has a really deep and long scratch. I have looked everywhere for advice on what to do but Ive only found info regarding tiny surface scratches. I am worried since it looks so deep that it will end up damaging my computer. I have a big exam coming up in 2 days and really dont have the time to take it to get fixed, but the last thing I need is it breaking right before my test. Any... Read more Source: MacRumors

PCI to eSATA on Monterey?

I'm upgrading from an Early 2009 Mac Pro (4.1) running El Capitan (10.11.6) to a 2019 Mac Pro (7.1) running Monterey (12.2.1). In my 2009 Mac I've been using a SeriTek / StarTek Q6G PCI to eSATA adapter connected to 3 external JBOD port multiplier expansion chassis (Sans Digital TR4M6G) each with 4 HDD running software RAID 0+1. This has worked well for a number of years and I'd like to continue with my external storage solution. But SeriTek has no drivers that will install on Monterey... Read more Source: MacRumors

Mac Pro 5,1 chimes but no display
by Guest Jimmy Arnott- 0 replies

Hi guys, I've just bought a Mac Pro 5,1 from Cex here in the UK (as they give a 2 year warranty with everything they sell), delivered yesterday afternoon and was working great. I then decided to install a later version of Mac OS onto a spare SSD I had instead of the aging 1TB spinning drive. I shut the machine down, installed the SSD and my USB boot drive. Got into the setup, all the usual steps went fine and began the installation, came back after 10-15 minutes to a black screen but the... Read more Source: MacRumors

So the background story is, I got a Mac Pro Server (5,1 MC915LL/A) that had a very harsh life: It went right into a huge bang and tripped the circuit breaker of the house after being powered on for the first time. The reason is left unknown but probably due to internal condensation as it's just being lugged in from about -10°C environment to room temperature. Took it to a mending shop, diagnosed that the CPU tray is dead but the PSU is okay, replaced the CPU tray and it's back to life. But... Read more Source: MacRumors

Possible to connect a mini-DP cinema display to HDMI video card?
by Guest cameronjpu- 0 replies

I updated the video card in a Mac pro and the new card has only DVI and HDMI. The existing Cinema display has only thunderbolt/mini-DP. Is it possible to connect the two? I'm beginning to suspect the two are not electrically compatible, so I'll need a more expensive hardware solution than just a cable adapter. But perhaps something like this? StarTech.com DP2MDPMF6IN 6in DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Video Cable Adapter - M/F - 6in DP to Mini DP - Newegg.com plus... Read more Source: MacRumors
