It has a GT610 (i think) graphics card, and ddr2 ram, and i believe twin xenon processors, My friend got it working when he bought it, it had macos on it then he formatted the harddrives sold 3 of them and kept one in this machine. Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX570 / Mac Pro 5,1 -2010
by Guest Mariner19- 0 replies

Mac Pro 5,1 2010 model assembled 04/2012. Would like to install a Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX570 GPU. Total power draw per factory specs is 195w. I noticed that that the GPU has a 8pin and a 6 pin power port. Now I realize the x2 mini 6 pin connectors on the logic board provides 75w each and the GPU slot provides an additional 75w for a total of 225w. Am I going to be running into problems using a mini 6 pin to 8 pin PCIE cable and a mini 6 pin to 6 pin PCIE cable? Thank you Source: MacRumors

TG Pro, iStat or any other utility you can't live without?

Hi there, I would like to monitor temperatures & sensors in my 5,1 but am caught between a rock and a hard place. You see I don't like loading lots of 3rd Party apps doing lots of different things preferring to keep things nice & clean without impacting resources etc. And yet I am prepared to compromise my OCD a little in installing a decent fan speed & temperature monitor such as TG Pro or iStat and wondered what you guys prefer/recommend and why? I know that's a loaded question but as... Read more Source: MacRumors

hello got myself a 13 mini five days ago, it’s great, but something spends battery over night without indicating what it is in the battery settings. any advice on how to debug this? is it because it’s a new phone? on my previous iphones that “process” was done in a day or two. https://forums.macrumors.com/attachments/ff9d0c1e-c1dc-4ed7-9258-c447eb7ba6ff-png.1926609/ Continue reading...

Mac Pro 5.1 - Windows 10 - No Audio Devices Found
by Guest JBreckeen- 0 replies

Hello all. I have a 5.1 that is solo-boot to Win10 from the harddisk (there is only Win10, and no other OS's). Yes I know, I know; but this is a graphics workstation and we all know the issues with OSX and modern graphics cards. This with a RTX 2080ti serves me very well for my work. Everything has been perfect with it, but after a Win10 update a couple of versions ago, I have lost all audio. I waited until the next (latest) update to see if it would be fixed, but no joy. There have... Read more Source: MacRumors

Q/A related to AXIVO OpenCore Plistlib Generator
by Guest TECK- 0 replies
The OC plistlib generator is a tool allowing you to automate OC upgrades, with no (or minimal) configuration changes. Start by reading the configuration wiki page and also the Big Sur configuration example (which is identical to Catalina configuration). The setup.py example settings are based on @cdf's OpenCore on the Mac Pro guide and you can customize everything to your likings. Why I created this tool? Once you are familiar with OC, you will... Read more Source: MacRumors

Hi, really need some help here. I was going to repaste my dual cpus and Northbridge but when removing the board I noticed a capacitor loose on the tray. This is a 4,1 with a Dual CPU tray. I tried to reassemble but the machine won't turn on, just got a red flashing ovtmt CPU A and B. The red flashing is both with and without CPUs installed. So I guess the capacitor is important :) . I have tried to locate where it could be missing based on photos of a working board ...but no success, can't... Read more Source: MacRumors

I have a 2009 running 5.1 Sierra. Cinema display HD LCD Resolution: 1920 x 1200 My Mac display switches off after around 8 hours in the morning while I'm asleep. Won't start with mouse or keyboard, or if you switch the computer off and on again. Only way to restart it is to disconnect and reconnect the screen connector to the Mac Pro. This seems to boot up the screen again. I'd like to fix this - how do I do that please? Source: MacRumors

APFS ROM Patcher
by Guest upipes- 0 replies

Hi all, I successfully applied dosdude1 ROM patcher in my MP3.1 time ago, in order to natively support APFS on my 3.1 Mac Pro. After that, I choose APFS volume on startup disk, to making disappear the yellow and white text that shows up while starting up the Mac. Since I did a PRAM and SMC reset, the yellow text It came back again. Now my OS start it's like before patching the ROM. I enclose a picture showing what patches are applied and a second picture showing the startup options. As you... Read more Source: MacRumors

Cleaning aluminium Mac Pro case

I know this question must have been asked before but I did search for cleaning before posting only to find the first 5 of 25 pages of results almost entirely referred to a clean install of MacOS! So...how do you guys recommend cleaning the aluminium case of your Mac Pro? I have always used AF Foamclene inthe Silver/Blue can with good results on most everything in the past sprayed on to a clean, warm flannel and rubbed into the surfaces of computers, keyboards etc. before wiping... 5,1 and Target Display Mode on 2011 iMac?
by Guest GlynH- 0 replies

Just a quick sanity check if I may please? I have a 2010 cMP 5,1 and a mid-2011 27" iMac that is currently very poorly but I plan to repair sometime soon. Maybe sooner if the following might work...;) Both machines are running High Sierra and seem to meet the requirements to utilise Target Display Mode here but I wondered if anybody here has actually used it successfully with this hardware combination? If so I guess I can use either a Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt cable to... Read more Source: MacRumors

I'm posting here to hear about any success stories with installing ESXi on the Mac Pro 7,1. My work is currently waiting for the rack mount version to be available before we order, but I would like to know what steps others are taking to make ESXi work on this machine or are planning to do. I have an iphone 11 Pro Max, and Im running Mojave on an unsupported iMac. Everything has been as normal; I add a song to my iTunes, transfer the song or folder I created to my iPhone, and thats it. Now all of a sudden: -the songs on the iPhone are greyed out, telling me that :this song is not synced across your device" -I cant choose specific music folders that I want to transfer over to my iphone, from iTunes Since Im running Mojave, I still have iTunes, and not Apple Music. Upgrading Verizon iPhone SE 2 to Unlocked iPhone 13 Pro
by Guest dufftop- 0 replies

I'm confused (somewhat). I have: iPhone SE 2 and Apple Watch SE (cellular) on an old Verizon plan (Small 1GB with Hotspot - 4G LTE I guess) I just bought: iPhone 13 Pro from Apple directly (unlocked) - didn't do the carrier special upgrade thing. Thought maybe if I just bought the phone directly I could bypass Verizon's BS. Maybe I made a mistake out of ignorance. I've never bought an unlocked iPhone. My question(s) are about the sim. I plan on upgrading my line(s) to a new unlimited plan... Read more Continue reading...

cMP 4,1 (5,1) crashing after CPU upgrade
by Guest sgentile92- 0 replies

My cMP crashes/restarts when the CPU is under heavy stress. I’ve installed two matched sets of X5680s in my machine and both pairs yield the same results. Things appear to be working normally until CPU is under heavy load, like the fin 10% of a Geekbench test (although some reboots seem to be random, and some are immediately after logging in following a crash). I use Macs Fan Control to monitor fan speeds and temps and even with fans cranked up to max it’s still crashing even though it’s... Read more Source: MacRumors

iPad answers all my calls
by Guest hologram- 0 replies

I haven’t seen this discussed here, but my 12.9” ipad Pro (NON-cellular) has started answering all my phone calls. I can make outgoing calls on the phone just fine, but I don’t get the incoming, they go straight to iPad. i haven’t changed any settings, but now my watch doesn’t show calls either. And there doesn’t seem to be any way to answer it except on the iPad. I had “Allow calls on other devices” turned on my phone as always, but I just turned it off. I’d rather not leave it that way... Backup iPhone photos, but remove the preview from phone, too?
by Guest bboyce2009- 0 replies

I am looking for the best way to make a digital backup of my photos, but not exactly through iCloud. They are already backed up there, but even having the tens of thousands of previews is annoying and overwhelming, so I want to start fresh while still maintaining a reliable backup. I’d just prefer relegating my current photos to hide away in an app that isn’t so intrusive and full as my iPhone’s photo library. Any program suggestions, or methods to save these and still empty the iPhone... Read more Continue reading...

Does the 2019 Mac Pro 7,1 allow the installation of Linux?
by Guest epcpnuke- 0 replies

I have a 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 that is used as a triple-boot machine. I have the two Mac OSX's 10.6 & 10.11 installed along with Linux. The primary (NOT only!) reason for Linux is because Apple has deprecated the two Mac OSX's along with any web browser that can run on them, which limits my access to the internet. However, I can and do continually update the Firefox browser on Linux all the time, so there is no similar limitation on Linux. But, since my machine is 12 years old, I'm always... Logitech mouse and keyboard not recognized
by Guest andyherman- 0 replies

I have an early 2009 Mac Pro and bought it new. This entire time I've been using a Logitech keyboard and mouse on this system. Within the last couple of weeks the Mac Pro has stopped recognizing the Logitech mouse and keyboard. I connected an HP Windows keyboard and the Mac recognizes it but when I insert the Logitech dongle and try the mouse or Logi keyboard the Mac won't respond. I'm running OSX Yosemite (because of the need to use older apps). I also have a 7,1 Mac Pro but use the... Read more Source: MacRumors
