Dell UP3218K 8K Monitor on Mac Pro 2019?
by Guest devnull16- 0 replies

Hello. Does anyone know about Dell UP3218K 8K Monitor compatibility with the Mac Pro 2019? I own this monitor but I’m only able to drive it using custom resolution on macOS Catalina at 7680x4320 @ 30Hz using two DisplayPort to Thunderbolt converter on an iMac Pro. I’m speculating this could potentially work using a 3rd-party GPU and using two DisplayPort outputs But unsure if macOS is able to support 8K resolution (Windows does perfectly). I guessing this is still a software limitation... Read more Source: MacRumors

Is there any chance the next Mac Pro will have an Intel option or is it GG at this point?

I know we’re dealing with rumors right now, but I’m not sure I’m up on all of them. Is the absolute writing on the wall and the next Mac Pro will be pure arm? Should I hoard an extra Mac Pro now? Lol Thanks Source: MacRumors

I'm new at this, so if you reply, please be gentle. I needed to download a large avi file to my phone. A friend suggested I get "Mega" to do the job. I think I downloaded the file correctly, but I don't know where to find it. I think it's in iCloud, but again, where? Any help would be appreciated. Continue reading...

[HowTo] MP 3,1 Use AMD RX 580 for Mojave/Catalina and bootscreen (without flashing)
by Guest Ludacrisvp- 0 replies
Here is a guide that I think a few are looking for to help them open the door to other options outside of Nvidia Kepler GPUs like the GTX 680 that are rather old and quite expensive. I'm going to do my best to break this into two sections, one about getting boot screen with a stock PC RX 580 with no flashing and a second section for getting the RX 580 working in Mojave 10.14.5 as these really seem to go hand in hand. The Mojave portion of this guide will only work for 10.14.5 due to AMD... Read more Source: MacRumors

Poor Safari Performance on MacPro 2019

Hello All, Long time reader here and a first-time poster. Thanks so much for all the good discussions that I was able to follow over the years. Now I have a question where I didn't find the answer to. I have a MacPro 7,1 running Catalina and have to stay there for a little longer due to an Audio Project I have to finish before updating. Safari is so slow with some websites it is almost unbearable; most of the time, I have to switch to Firefox. Is this an issue with Catalina on the MP or... Read more Source: MacRumors

Best CPU for Mac Pro 6.1
by Guest TobiasT- 0 replies

I can confirm the 8 core Xeon E5-2667 V2 (not provided by Apple) is the best CPU for Mac Pro 6.1. - Both single-core and multi-core performance is better than in the 12 cores CPU provided by Apple: 4135/27254 vs 3369/27076. - compared to the new iMac Pro with 8 cores, single-core and multi-core performance is not that far away: 4135/27254 vs 5048/30987. https://i.ibb.co/DtfqY1V/Geek-Bench-Mac-Pro.png https://i.ibb.co/C0M5BwF/Screenshot-2019-01-25-at-01-14-41.png ... Using one HDD on Mac Pro as Time Capsule?
by Guest GlynH- 0 replies

Having been burned on more than one occasion by Time Machine on my Synology NAS failing in my hour of need and then suffering the agony of being ping-ponged between Apple & Synology when it came to support with each blaming the other I came to the conclusion I really need an Apple device to backup to. As Time Capsule was unceremoniously dumped by Apple some time ago I was wondering on the possibility of giving over one HDD in my Mac Pro 5,1 completely as a Time Machine destination backup... Computer keeps rebooting, don't know how to read crash report
by Guest sgentile92- 0 replies

My Mac Pro experiences a kernel panic about every 15 minutes of light use. I’m trying to figure out what’s behind it but unfortunately I can’t decipher a crash report. Last night up updated to Sierra from El Capitan but that did nothing to help with the frequency of crashes. The specs are: 2009, 5.1, 20GB of RAM, with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card and the most updated drivers for 10.12.6. I’m trying to work on some freelance projects but that’s impossible with all of these crashes... Read more Source: MacRumors

Sudden rapid decrease in battery health
by Guest super chimp- 0 replies

My iPhone 11 Pro in the last week has lost the same amount of battery health that it lost in the 12 months before that with it now reducing to 80%. I’ve owned a lot of iPhones over the years and of the models that have had the battery health monitoring I’ve never had one lose so much battery percentage in such a short time. My iPhone is on iOS 15.1. Is it likely to keep losing battery health at such an accelerated rate and does it mean there’s something seriously wrong with the battery? Continue reading...

Hey all, recently pulled my 3,1 Mac Pro out of storage. It was running El capitan a few years back. I just purchased an SSD HD, and added some more ram. I'm looking to get the machine back running again. I have no installation cds, USB bootables, etc. I would like to run Adobe Premiere to edit some Go-pro video footage. Not sure what OS to install? Big Sur? I have an Adobe CC subscription. I have access to a 2010 iMac to create a boot disk. Can someone point me in the right... Read more Source: MacRumors

MP 5,1 Big Sur Upgrade Question:
by Guest rocksarntpeople- 0 replies

So I recently attempted a Monterey install on my 5,1 running OpenCore (prebuilt hardware acceleration package as I don't really need anything other than that) and it failed spectacularly so I reverted back to my previous Catalina install. I know BigSur is generally stable and would like to attempt to upgrade potentially using OCLP instead. Is the process as simple as letting OCLP build the OC config and following the steps in the guide or is there something else that is needed in order... Read more Source: MacRumors

How to examine power usage - time to upgrade?
by Guest Stirfry2112- 0 replies

I was recently given a nahelm Mac Pro that i was going to setup as a html / dreamweaver / photoshop workstation. As i was preparing the computer, i got to thinking; should i even use this energy hog or just go out and buy an entry level m1 mac mini? Obviously the power usage between these two computers is significantly different but does anyone know how to accurately prove this theory? I have an old kilowatt meter but I’ve never researched how to use the numbers I get off the readings. Watts... Read more Source: MacRumors

Large Monitors with Mac Pro 7,1
by Guest Boulez- 0 replies

Hello I’m about to purchase or lease a Mac Pro 7,1 (leasing maybe due to ARM announcement). My questions are not directly about Mac Pro but about which monitor(s) to pair it with. Sorry about that—have asked the questions in a few places without finding many answers! I work editing classical music scores but have some serious eye health issues. I need a 43 inch 4K 16:9 monitor (or larger) to deal with tall orchestral scores. Alternatively, I might use an array of smaller monitors (maybe in... Read more Source: MacRumors

by Guest Ofpaintandpoly- 0 replies

I’ve been having issues with my 2009 Mac Pro. Where it will shut off randomly, turn back on, shut off, repeat.. I have a 2009 Mac Pro flashed to 5,1 with dual 3.43ghz processors (12 core) 32gb of ram, the original nvidia 512 GPU in slot 3 and an AMD RX580 in slot 1. Troubleshooting methods I’ve tried: -The hardware elimination test. Everything checked out okay.. -Repasting and replacing heat sink supports over northbridge diode. It doesn’t seem like an overheating issue. MacFans has... Read more Source: MacRumors

5,1 Dual and Single processor trays
by Guest entwerfen- 0 replies

I have a 5,1 Mac Pro Twelve Core 2.4 (2012/Westmere) and an extra 5,1 single processor tray with a single 3.33 GHz Six Core Xeon W3680. I wanted to swap in the single processor tray while I procure two matching Xeon X5690s to upgrade the dual tray. But the single processor tray doesn't go all the way in. They are both 5,1s, not a 4,1. Is there a trick to getting the single tray to seat correctly? What might I be missing? Thanks! Source: MacRumors

MP 4,1 - Can I use only CPU 2 slot with dual CPU tray?
by Guest orslow- 0 replies

Recently, I broke some pins on CPU 1 slot while replacing CPUs, and after this, my mac just make hard fan noise when i boot it up, and show nothing I think it is because of toasted CPU pins, so I tried just one CPU on CPU 2 slot, with nothing on CPU 1 slot, but it still does not work. Can't I just use CPU 2 slot with dual CPU tray? or is there any other way to use only one CPU? Thank you. Source: MacRumors

Flashing R9 280X for boot screens/PCI System Information
by Guest Mr. Zarniwoop- 0 replies

I have a 2006 Mac Pro running Yosemite (thanks Pike!) and now on to "fit and finish" nits to make it work. I got an MSI R9 280X Gaming 3GB video card, and it worked great out-of-the-box, but I wanted to get boot screens and get it recognized in the PCI section of System Information. I chose this card because it's not too expensive, and clearly others have had good compatibility experiences in Mac Pros with Mavericks and Yosemite. So, I read the AMD EFI firmware thread on netkas... Read more Source: MacRumors

Latest point release of ios 14. iphone 12 downloaded ios 15 despite settings. Now it is nagging me to "upgrade" to ios 15. Short of wiping the phone how do I stop these nags? Or will full reset sneakily install cached ios 15? (subsequently I have blocked mesu.apple.com and appldnld.apple.com. Hooray DoH) I am not interested in the Wrong Think prevention features.
