  1. Dalo, You definitely don't suffer from Cyberphobia, then? :D Fear of computers or working on a computer.
  2. I remember the original A/B switch when cable television first came out. It looked like a sideways on/off light switch. A was for VHF channels and B was for UHF channels.
  3. Bob, No worries, I know Simon. I don't take anything personally, life is too short. Back on topic..... If I was concerned about being zapped I would wear a static strap. I have found draining the flea power and grounding myself, works well enough. As for the air compressor, much safer as far as I am concerned. How many people shake their can of compressed air. None, I hope.....;)
  4. Hello brundle and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. You will find lots of good people here. I know that I have. :)
  5. Tootech, I should clarify my use of my husband's electric air compressor. It isn't an air compressor gun and it is not the type that uses or contains water or oil sealed or otherwise. That being said, I am in total agreement with your post. I don't use a vacuum cleaner and never would. I have heard of some sillies that have done so. I don't use a static strap and never have. I do make sure I drain the flea power before I touch anything. I have been zapped a few times..... I do recommend the use of a static strap for the average user.
  6. I have recently taken to using my husband's electric air compressor. You can adjust the air flow to as low as you like. I not only find it does a much better job with the clean up, I don't have to spend $6.00 US for a can of compressed air. :)
  7. This is the Off Topic, Civilised Discussion, World News etc isn't it? I am female and not at offended. It's only an article. Boys will always be boys...:)
  8. :D Hi Goku, Fancy finding you here. :p
  9. Try this link. :D Why does my music sound like chipmunks are singing? This link only applies to WMP 10.
  10. Hello boney, Are you sure it is SETUPAP.dll or is it possible you are seeing SETUPAPI.dll? If it's SETUPAPI.dll, this is part of Windows and is used for installation and set up programs. SETUPAPI.dll is required for Windows to function correctly.
  11. Yammer, Is your OS by any chance Windows Vista? Vista net settings require a bit more and it's a little different setting up network/filesharing on a Vista machine. ~ Cindy ~
  12. Actually, with the statement he made, I think that's exactly what he attempted to do! He specifcally asked for help... he expected on boot to be given the choice of which OS he wanted to select. Now, instead he is unable to acess his folders and documents. With Vista Boot Pro he will have that option and access to his files. The only other work-around that I know of is using the command line with diskpart utility and it doesn't always work.
  13. I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear about my Ubuntu. I run it from a desktop CD. I don't have it installed. Sorry, 'bout that. ~Cindy~
  14. The very first time you boot from the CD you type in "root" for the log-in and for the password, they are case sensitive. Thereafter, if you are asked for a log-in and password, you type in "guest" for both. This has always worked for me...... ~Cindy~
  15. Randy, EaseUs Disk Copy or (Disk Copy) is my personal favorite! I liked it so much, I stopped testing the others. I have Acronis, and that was what I have been using for quite some time but I stopped using it approx. two months ago. I was planning on making a full image on one of my dual boot machines to an external Seagate of both XP and Vista. I had already partitioned the Seagate for separate imaging of each OS. It wacked out on me and totally hosed everything on the computer!! I will eventually use it again, but only on a machine with one OS. I have also used (Partition Saving) and liked it as well. It's not quite as "user friendly" as the (Disk Copy). A friend from a large tech forum swears by (XXClone) She insists that it's far better than any "paid" software. She would know, I guess, as she has used both Norton Ghost and Acronis. As for the rest of them, I only know they were recommended by someone at TSG. ~Cindy~
  16. (Disk Copy) creates an exact Mirror Image copy of your disk, including the operating system, applications, personal preferences, custom settings, and all of your vital data. Disk Copy can be used for copy, cloning, or upgrading your original hard drive to a new drive. It supports all versions of Windows. (XXClone) makes a self-bootable clone of Windows system disk. Supports all 32-bit Windows (95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP). Supports common internal disk drives (IDE, SATA, SCSI) and external USB/FIREWIRE drives (also good for a laptop). Competes with Norton Ghost, DriveImage, MaxBlast, yet is much faster than any of them in typical daily backup. (HDClone) It copies smaller drives onto larger ones for migrating or backing up complete installations as well as for data rescue. The download package contains a program to easily create a bootable floppy disk or CD/DVD under Windows with only few clicks. A floppy image, or CD/DVD ISO image, can be created to boot from. (DrvClonerXP) copies a whole drive partition byte-for-byte, sector-by-sector, directly to another drive partition, producing an exact reproduction (clone) of the original partition. Unlike a disk imaging tool, it does not save the image to disk (for backup or other purpose) but applies it directly to the selected partition. Use it, if you want to create a clone of your drive for whatever reason, (new hard drive etc.) Compatible with Windows 2000/XP. (SelfImage) is capable of making an image file of a hard disk or hard disk partition, and can restore an image back to any drive or partition that doesn't have open files. Useful for making backups. Unlike dd for Windows (or cygwin), SelfImage is capable of creating an image of a partition that is currently in use. It can even create images of partitions that Windows doesn't recognize (partitions that Windows doesn't have mounted on a drive letter). This is perfect for the dual-boot system, you can create an image backup of a Linux partition directly from Windows. Can create an image of an entire hard disk, including the master boot record, partition table, and all partitions (Windows 2000/XP) (Partition Saving) makes an image file of a hard disk or hard disk partition, and can restore an image back to any drive or partition. I'ts useful for making backups. All versions of Windows including Vista.

  18. Hi Advanced, Those are screen shots from my computer. I partitioned my drive and installed Vista with XP already on the other partition. I used the option to "Force Bootloader Install" I have a dual boot with Vista being the default OS and a 30 second delay on boot to choose which OS you want. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q162/allheart55/computer%20funny/forcebootinstall-1.jpg

  22. Hi Advanced, The issue is he doesn't have any working audio. He doesn't show any "bangs" in the device manager, this is why I lean towards the UAA bus driver. I have come across this half a dozen times. It's always been the bus driver. Cindy
  23. Very interesting allheart. How did you determine that? I'm assuming that if the above is indeed the problem, Window's Update would install it. Think so? http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q162/allheart55/SMILEY%20SMALL/ShowLetter9.gif I wasn't offered it using the custom setting for Windows update. I had to search for it. Once I installed the UAA bus driver and re-installed the sound drivers the audio was fine. It's really common with HP's and Compaq's. (The computer was a custom built Vega that my son-in-law owned.)
  24. You are missing the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver. Without downloading that first you won't have audio. The HP website has a universal type Microsoft UAA. If you are running any version of Win XP this one will work. Download
