  1. Instead of Safe Mode, choose Last Known Good Configuration. Then download Super and Malwarebytes from the lappy and transfer them to a USB stick or burn them to a cd. Install them on the desktop and attempt to update them. If you can't, don't worry about and just run the full scans with each. Following that you should be able to update them and run the scans again.

  3. See if you can access the sites through Safe Mode With Networking. Keep tapping F8 as soon as you turn on the computer and a start up menu will appear. Use the arrow keys to choose the mode and press enter.
  4. Those are the NT loader files. If those were the problem, you would receive an "Operating System Not Found" error, and not a "Boot Disk Failure" error. Given that the drive is detected on the other computer, I'm inclined to think you have a mobo problem. Does the drive show up in the bios? When you slave the drive on the other computer, can you see the files when you explore the drive?
  5. I believe you have a DNS issue. Open internet explorer then erase everything in the address bar (the address bar will show "http: etc). So erase all that, type in 66.102.9.147 and press enter. Google should come up. Is that correct?
  6. Does it read cd's ok? Try using an alternate burning program and burn a data disk with regular files: CDBurnerXP: Introduction and News Another option would be to try burning a cd from a different manufacturer.
  7. Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Beebye. Your computer is infected with malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicroâ„¢ HijackThisâ„¢ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. 9. Third party defrag apps are a scam. A defrag is a simple algorithm that Windows can do sufficiently. As Dalo noted, a chkdsk should be run before a defrag. I also suggest the defrag be run from Safe Mode.
  10. The following is snipped from Mike. Note that he addressed a dns issue as well: Click on Start and then Run Type cmd and click OK In the black window type ipconfig Also, Click Start and then Run Type cmd and click OK In the black window type ping 'www.google.com' (Without the quotes ' ') Finally, Click Start and then Run Type cmd and click OK In the black window type ping 66.102.9.147 Please post back the results from each command.
  11. That's better. Want to edit a manuscript?
  12. Agreed on all counts. In my country and yours , the judicial system is releasing scum that have repeatability raped and killed children. Blunt but true. Like I said, how many half-way houses are constructed in the neighborhood of those involved in our judicial system? NONE
  13. Oh ****, not this guy again:D My answer is "no", lest you point out the logical fallacy.
  14. Noted. Given the other problems that the computer is experiencing, I suggest you back up your data and re-install the operating system. Do you need assistance in doing such?
  15. 1) Upgrade to IE7. 2) You have three tool bars in IE. My suggestion is to remove the Yahoo and MSN toolbar. 3) If you don't use AOL as your internet service provider, then remove all instances from Add/Remove programs. 4) Rid yourself of AVG: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/3597-free-pc-help-recommended-security-products.html
  16. No. Provided you followed the instructions correctly, the Eset scan will have removed the threats automatically. I'm currently checking your HT log.
  17. There is no such thing. AVG is the worst possible antimalware application. Second to Norton and Mcafee.
  18. NP my friend. The entries refer to two applications. The former will generate pron popups, the latter will skew search results. Neither is significant to the issue, but poster education is in order.
  19. Bebo's argument is valid. That is, a parent tries to protect their children from scum in the local community, but don't know that ten times worse is being subjected to their "online child".
  20. The police are irrelevant. They are the lowest denominator in the hierarchy. They do what they are constructed to do, no matter their personal objections. The same can be said for the parole board in such a judicial system. That is, the board will release another scum bag repeat offender into your neighborhood and mine (but not their own). Ever see a halfway house in the neighborhood of anyone involved in our judicial system? Don't even get me started on human ignorance, emotional decisions, and (media/political) propaganda. But since you asked lol, Obama is the latest and greatest example of such. Obama is the new Britney Spears of America.
  21. Sure. Dan, As Wolfey asked, it's important to know if you have a desktop or laptop. But if it's a desktop, please also let us know if you are using a wireless keyboard, as well as how you know what key to press to enter the bios.
  22. Well that can addressed, however the boot menu is appearing.
  23. No I didn't. I just happen to be psychic. Some mobos will not boot correctly with certain USB devices attached. USB memory sticks for the most part. I see the issue about once a month in my shop.
  24. Remove any third party devices from the computer (especially USB devices). Now try to access the System Recovery Recovery Partition that appears.
  25. Since you used to be able to see the neighbors routers and you can't now, definitely means the issue is on your computer. Go into Device Manager and click on the plus sign beside Network Adapters. You'll see the wireless card. Does it show as disabled or not installed? Now right click on the wireless entry and choose Uninstall. When it's uninstalled, restart the computer and it will reinstall. BTW-Did you check if any of the function keys have the wireless icon?
