  1. If Zonealarm trys to block the installation too just right click the icon in the system tray and click Shutdown.
  2. If it's AVG: Right click the AVG icon in the system tray. Click Launch AVG Free Control Center. On the Security status page there should be a list of items with green check boxes next to them. Right click Resident shield and select Properties. Uncheck Turn on AVG Free resident Shield protection. Click OK. Are you using ZoneAlarm?
  3. jlay chkdsk can't run that fast unless you are using some program like Norton Ghost or the old GoBack program which would cause chkdsk to to only check the drive overlay.
  4. Hi mara; Adobe Flash Player and Macromedia Shockwave Flash Player are two different things. You can use add/remove programs to get rid of any older versions of Java. Those might be this months updates that were just released yesterday. And lastly it seems you want to test your firewall. I wouldn't worry about that mara Sygate works fine.
  5. andy please wait while we review this issue.

  7. Hi sparky; Follow these steps in our malware removal procedure. Your computer could be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup StepsDisable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2)Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. 8. Hi black; This is a difficult issue and we thank you for your patience and apoligise for all the questions. The information you just supplied has given us some minor insight. The team has been researching this for you but like I said it is a difficult issue. Can you take a look at this Netgear page and see if there is something you can try please? No Internet Using a DG632 or DG834 Series Router with Internal Modem
  9. Thanks for the heads up sangfroid. There are still a lot of people that use AVG so this might come in handy.
  10. Hi Seth. Below are the ones I was talking about. Now I know that the reset would still leave the toolbars showing in the log. Thanks. 11. jay I'm a little confused here. Help me out if you can please. You say you reset IE7. If you did all of IE's add on toolbars shouldn't be running. Your log shows you still have some like the Yahoo toolbar. Granted I'm not a log expert. Seth there are some other log entries I'm not sure about either but I am suspect. Can you look please.
  12. Sad but true. More and more you have to check what other programs get installed when you update your current programs. It used to be you could opt for the others. Now you have to opt out. A dirty trick but they know it works.
  13. Check your AV settings to see if out going mail is being scanned. You could also try temporarily turning off your AV to see if that makes a difference. Just don't forget to turn it back on.
  14. I suppose it might matter how you define information. Have you tried Googleing for an answer?
  15. With multiple users and the symptons you describe, coupled with the fact that safe mode can be entered but certan functions don't even work there, I suspect a serious infestation. First let me ask if any registry programs were used. If so then this may be a lost cause short of a reinstall. Secondly can you access the internet via safe mode with networking? Thirdly what security is installed as in Antivirus etc? To be honest this does not look good at this point.
  16. Hi chiefy; We are going to need a whole lot more information here. Can you please tell us exactly everything you know about this issue. What programs don't work? What do you mean by "I can't access msn? Does anything work? When did this problem start and did you install anything prior? Are there any errors and if so what are the errors. We really need to know more to help.
  17. You have entry in your log that concerns me and I think that's the source of your problem. O23 - Service: Ares Chatroom server (AresChatServer) - Ares Development Group - C:\Program Files\Ares\chatServer.exe Have you ever used any form of Ares software? Please wait for Seth to review this log entry.
  18. Have look at the Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Recommended Security products centry.
  19. I'm a little slow today but happy birthday. Glad you have the time to spend some of it with us. I hope you have a great one. :)
  20. This is a puzzle. What AV and/or firewall do you have? Maybe your AV is scanning the outbox. Do you have any other accounts in Vista Mail and if you do are they working right? Have you tried a setting up new mail account? Yours may be corrupted. Are there any other Windows users set up and do they have an email that works right? Do you have any third party email programs? Since you said this just started recently have you tried a System Restore?
  21. Thanks for letting us know Sneddon. Stick around and enjoy the forums.
  22. That just made me thirsty.
  23. Hi somerton. Windows Mail does not use dbx folders. Try this. Open Windows Mail. Click Tools. Click on Options. Click on Send. Put a check in Send messages immediately. Click OK. Restart Windows Mail.
  24. See if you can order the set here since you didn't make a set if you are in North America. The cost is minimal. https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=451474-001&lang=en&cc=us I started here. Select software and drivers
  25. There are a lot of possibilties here but it could be the hard drive. If it is you should hook it up via a laptop to desktop cable converter and see if you can transfer and save your data to a desktop before doing anything else. After that try tapping F11 at boot up and select "Advanced" to repair startup. It may or may not work. This is just one possibility but since you have not made the recovery DVD's you may have to order a set. Of course all data will be lost if you choose to recover via the DVD or F11 so backup now as I said. You may also want to wait for other members ideas first.
