If you're using the registry cleaner of Ccleaner please stop. Running a registry cleaner can cripple a system. Maybe a reset of IE would help. I suggest a reset over Restore Advanced Settings as this will disable all browser add-ons. This is how to do it in IE7 but the instructions should be the same for later versions of IE. http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/2711-How-to-Reset-or-Restore-Advanced-Settings-in-Internet-Explorer-7

Solved .......Updates wont configure
RandyL replied to babyhornetdan's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That's great. Hopefully with the fix at the end it won't happen again. -
Hi Porge. There are so many possibilities but you have to start somewhere. It seems you are having problems accessing, loging on or using secure websites. As this is happening with IE and Firefox I'm guessing it's not the IE settings. Can you temporarily disable Norton antivirus and Norton firewall and see what happens? If you disable them and don't choose the temporary option make sure you turn them back on later.

Solved .......Updates wont configure
RandyL replied to babyhornetdan's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi. Microsoft has a possible solution. It involves using startup repair or doing a system restore from safemode. If that works there is a fix to avoid this from happening again. Kb949358 explains how to do the startup repair or system restore. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358 At the bottom of the page at that link you will also see this. How to avoid this problem To avoid this problem whit Windows Vista, obtain and install update 937287 from the Microsoft Download Center separately from all other updates on the Windows Update site. Install the update that applies to your version of Windows Vista so that you can successfully install future updates. The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: Windows Vista x86-based systems Download the Windows6.0-KB937287-x86.msu package now. Windows Vista x64-based systems Download the Windows6.0-KB937287-x64.msu package now. -

I mention updating drivers becaue often times they will render better. I've seen many a new computer ship and there were already better drivers available.

I'm not up to date on graphics cards but you got good advice on the power supply. Good cards need a good PSU and most name brand computers usually come with a minimum.
-
Before you do anything have you tried updating the drivers from the HP site? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5149364&query=Pavilion%20HPE%20h8-1130a&tool=&

Cannot connect printer to wireless network
RandyL replied to rich50's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi rich. Here is a video on how to install a printer in Windows 7. Check out the downloads page for your printer. http://software.canon-europe.com/ http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/InkJet/PIXMA_MG_series/PIXMA_MG5250.aspx?type=download&page=1 Look for this one. Canon PIXMA Wireless Setup (Windows) http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/InkJet/PIXMA_MG_series/PIXMA_MG5250.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:14-823468&page=2&type=download It's going to be hit or miss whether you can get to the software downloads on the canon site. A common problem. -
Are you sure you're using the right disks? It sounds like you're using a diagnostics or application disk. The disk should say something like Dell Operating System Reinstallation CD/DVD. Here are the Dell instructions for reinstalling Windows from Disks. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&docid=DSN_362048&isLegacy=true

I think we better let our malware experts take a look at this before going on. I'll let them know. -
Lsass.exe error - XP laptop won't boot up
RandyL replied to shawnh's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
This could be a virus as you said. Can you boot into safemode? -
1. Right click an empty area of the desktop and select properties. On the Display Properties window click the Desktop tab. Next click on Customize Desktop. On the Desktop Items window click My Computer once to highlite it and click Change Icon. Select the icon you want and click OK as needed. 2. You might need to to re-create the Show desktop icon on the Quick Launch toolbar. Doug Knox has a fix that might work too. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_showdesktop.htm

Regardless of what you might have read on other help forums where you posted the exact same thing it does not exist. -
Have you scanned for malware? If so with what?
-
Thanks for the information. That's a lot of information so it should help. Unfortunately I don't know what's going on either. Were you able to install SP3 from Windows updates? Are you still using IE version 6? The reason I ask about the XP disks is that sometimes they are not legit and that can cause issues with updating. I assume they have the microsoft logo etc. It really is strange. Once the OS is installed and nothing else to conflict Windows updates should give you everything. Conflicting security software or malware can also cause issues such as not being able to update Windows or interfere with things like Malwarebytes. So if Windows is fully updated including SP3 then the only thing I can think of is program or software conflicts.

I have merged two threads into this one. I notice quite a few posts from you with problems. As you have reinstalled and still have problems including Windows Updates I have to ask. 1. What is the make, model and number of your PC. 2. How are you reinstalling? 3. Are you installing from disks? 4. Are the disks for your PC? 5. What does it say on the installation disks? 6. Have these disks been used on another PC? 7. What happens and what errors do you get when running Windows updates after the reinstallation? 8. Have you installed any updates including SP3?

Deleting emails from a hotmail account

After researching a different issue if the account is set up as IMAP it seems the mail will remain on the server even if you delete it if you are using a client program like Outlook. -
Transfer Aol email folders to MS Outlook
RandyL replied to tryinghard's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
These links seem to indicate that you have to make sure Store special folders on IMAP server is not checked. http://email.about.com/od/outlookexpressfreemail/qt/How_to_Access_an_AOL_Email_Account_with_Outlook_Express.htm http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883081 Notice step 2 on the Microsoft link. [h=3]Step 2: Configure the AOL e-mail account[/h]After you add the AOL e-mail account, you must configure this account in Outlook Express. To do this, follow these steps: When you return to the Internet Accounts dialog box after you complete the steps from the "Step 1: Add the AOL e-mail account" section, click the Mail tab. Note If the Internet Accounts dialog box is not open, click Accounts on the Tools menu. On the Mail tab, click the AOL account that you added, and then click Properties. Click the Servers tab, and then click to select the My server requires authentication check box. Click Apply, and then click the Advanced tab. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, type 587. Note By default, the SMTP port number is 25. Click Apply, and then click the IMAP tab. Click to clear the Store special folders on IMAP server check box, click Apply, and then click OK. Click Apply, and then click OK. Click Close. If you receive the following message, click Yes: Would you like to download folders from the mail server you added? -
Transfer Aol email folders to MS Outlook
RandyL replied to tryinghard's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
From what I can find you can do it if you set up your account as IMAP when asked. If you look at step 11 at this link you will see when it asks. http://help.aol.com/help/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=223775 -
Is this it? http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=41 The FAQ page has your error listed. Make sure you have all the downloads available installed.

Q. When I launch VTFEdit I get the following error message: "A required .DLL file, MSCOREE.DLL, was not found."

A. VTFEdit is written in C++ .NET and such as requires the .NET runtimes to run. See the downloads page for more information.

I would be very concerned however if you are not getting Windows Updates. Do you have SP3 installed?

Good deal. As long as you got it working that's all that matters. My instructions were taken from my Windows 7. Vista must be slightly different.
