  1. I right clicked and clicked enabled, it says it enabled but it still shows as disabled. I'm beginning to think its a waste of time trying to get it working, I might just have to get a longer network cable.
  2. Sorry about the double post, my browser is playing up I think. I uninstalled the driver than used the HP Support Assistant and downloaded the new driver, it has installed and the exclamation mark is gone. When I go to Network and Sharing the wifi adapter is there but disabled and I can't get it to enable
  3. I'm just trying the HP Support Assistant, it says there's an update for my Ralink wireless LAN and is downloading it now. I'll report back as soon as its done.
  4. When I right click and select "update driver software" it replies with "The best driver software for your device is already installed." I also have an exclamation mark on my NAS drive, which wasn't there before the windows updates - but it is working fine so I'm not touching it!
  5. I downloaded the latest driver from the HP website and installed it, but the same message appears. I have now got the computer connected via a LAN cable which isn't ideal but it does work.
  6. It doesn't say Ralink but it did when it was working. The computer is an HP p6-2022uk I'm going to see if there's anything on the HP website about it when I have time.
  7. So what was the solution? I didn't see the other forum and would like to find something to do the same thing.
  8. It's listed as: 802.11n Wireless LAN card Windows says the driver is up to date, there is no roll-back option. The device status says: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52) All I did between it working fine and not working was install Windows updates - obviously Windows is malicious software :p
  9. I tried reinstalling the driver from the hard drive and that doesn't work, it says its installed but the exclamation mark is still there. I also tried your second solution, that didn't work either, it searched for a driver and then said it had failed.
  10. Last week when I had no wifi and it took me 12 hours of system restores to get it working. Yesterday I had 14 Windows updates and today my wifi isn't working - the adapter is showing in the device manager with an exclamation mark on it. Anyone know how I can get my wifi back and stop windows updates from killing it? At the moment Micro$oft has made my computer so secure its useless!
  11. By reading the Gmail help pages it looks like you can delete your email account without losing access to everything like Youtube, Play, etc. However I managed to find a phone number for Google Play and called that and spoke to someone there. He told me that if you delete your email account you WILL lose everything associated with the Play store. Conflicting information on Googles part it seems. I have been getting tons of spam sent to my address without a dot (myname@gmail.com instead of my.name@gmail.com), its as if someone doesn't know their own address or something. I even had emails from a solicitor regarding a divorce, it was a genuine company not a scam/spam link - I managed to contact them and they had got the email address wrong. On advice from Google, I now have a filter set up so that everything I receive that doesn't have the dot in goes straight to the bin.
  12. I have been getting tons of spam (over 100 a day this weekend) on the email address I used when I got my first tablet a few years ago. This email address is my Google Play account address and is now on my phone and two other tablets. Does anyone know if it is possible to change this email address without losing my Google Play account and purchases? I didn't find the Google help pages much help (nothing unusual there).
  13. I was going to suggest OpenDNS because you can select the type of websites you want to block!
  14. I'm glad I stopped using AVG years ago if that's what they are up to!
  15. I got an email about OneDrive today. I don't use OneDrive but I did notice at the bottom of the email it says: "You can sync shared folders on Windows 10, Windows 7 and Mac. If you're running Windows 8.1, upgrade to Windows 10 for free."
  16. My reasons for not upgrading are mainly software and hardware issues. For a start my anti-virus isn't compatible with Windows 10, and a lot of the other software I use regularly isn't compatible with 8 so I doubt its compatible with 10. I was going to upgrade my convertible laptop from 8.1 to 10 but since finding out about the forced updates I've decided that's a bad idea too.
  17. Thanks, I think I'll leave it a bit to see, I don't have a DVD drive on the computer.
  18. After a week of problems with Windows 8.1 on my "convertible" HP laptop I decided it might be easier to get the Windows 10 upgrade. I've left the computer on for a few hours a couple of times over the weekend hoping it would download Windows 10 but I realised there's no easy way to see if it is actually downloading.
  19. I uninstalled the update that put the Windows 10 icon in my system tray, but it just came back again - I am happy with Windows 7 on my desktop PC and don't want Windows 10, neither do I want the Windows 10 update taking up space on my hard drive.
  20. Thanks for finding that out - I'm hoping it doesn't just update on the release date. I think it would be better to wait 6 months to see what 10 is like and how compatible old software/hardware will be before actually installing it.
  21. I have had a Windows 8.1 convertible laptop/tablet for a year now, and like some of the features but hate others, as I don't use it every day I think I will upgrade it to 10 to see if its any better. The worrying thing is can I restore Windows 8.1 if I don't like 10?
  22. After using Avast for years and then having problems with it I changed to Zone Alarm (free version) at the beginning of last year. In my opinion it is far better than Avast, plus it is an anti-virus and firewall. I now have the paid for version because they had a special offer for a 3 PC license.
  23. I bought my partner an Acer Iconia 720 for her birthday last September, it worked fine until February. The battery would just die almost instantly, you'd switch it on and it would show 100% and then .... dead. I got it from Tesco, when I phoned them they said it was a common problem, and replaced it with no quibble.
