  1. Your welcome - post a pic when its all sorted :) and if you used my sig - you will be fine
  2. I doubt it for the coolermaster and as for the 4850 - just go for the cheapest one that you can find as they are all the same reference board and companies just OC them a bit - which you can do yourself if needed with the ATI tool ;) found this at ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB - Dino PC Ltd £106
  3. Nor did I - Thermite rocks though
  4. Glad its all sorted and please feel free to ask about a build
  5. Right the fastest GPU on the planet at the moment is the 4870x2 its, two 4870 on one card - it blows the 280GTX out of the water! BUT this does all depend on what size your monitor is - you are not going to notice a huge difference between the 260GTX and the 280GTX unless you go over 1680x1050. I must strongly advise against the 280GTX as it severly overpriced, so you can either opt for the ATI 4870x2 or wait until Nvidia's next offering.
  6. Do you have the device plugged into the USB ports on the back of the Motherboard? or are they plugged into a HUB? did you get a driver disk with the device?
  7. So what are you using then for the burning? honestly I cannot stress how 'fussy' NERO can be on some systems - go to the NERO homepage and download their removal tool and make sure that ALL traces of previous versions are gone and then install NERO 8 and see how you get on
  8. As for the GPU I would opt for the 4850 over the 8800 any day As for the case and the fans - As I hate the coolermaster cases so much and would rather pull my own arms off than buy one make sure that their are fans at the top (extracting) at the back of the case preferably 2 (extracting) and 2 at the front panel (blowing through) the reason I say this is that all the heat builds at the top and back of the case and NEEDS to be extracted that way (something that the Antec cases do extremely well )
  9. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  10. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  11. That looks fine to me :D
  12. You can only copy certain files from the C:/ drive anything that involves the Operating system like the pagefile cannot be copied - so really you just need things like your my documents and music etc and anything saved to desktop etc - programs etc cannot be copied unless they are the exe. files or the whole program. copy over what is listed above and then when you reformat the drive, and reinstall the OS - you can load it all back on again :)
  13. So when you say its unresponsive say watching a film - does the film continue? or does it just stop and nothing is responsive? does CTRL+ALT+DEL bring the task manager up?
  14. The parts will work together but with the Q6600 I would go for 1066RAM like the OCZ reaper 8500 its about £40 for 2GB - as for the case - the twelve hundred is a case that you can keep for a very long time - its massive and has lots of good cooling. you can go for the Coolermaster but I hate them with a passion - they are ugly, cumbersome and heavy. The Q6600 and the Gigabyte will be fine together. The 8800GT is a great card - BUT it does all depend on the size of your monitor - if you are not going beyond 1680x1050 and have the AA and AF turned off or set to low then the 8800GT will be fine - You do also have to consider though that for an extra £100 you could get a 260GTX or a 4870
  15. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :) I am sure we will have the answer somewhere :D
  16. Have a good one :D
  17. Also you could try popping the CMOS battery out, leave it out for 10 minutes and then reinsert it - its the small watch battery at the bottom of the board
  18. Also have you changed anything recently - anything at all?
  19. Right - the list :D Case - Antec twelve hundred £105.74 from ebuyer.co.uk Antec three hundred £35.07 from aria.co.uk Mobo - Biostar TPowerI45 £100.63 Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L £41.47 from scan.co.uk CPU - Q6600 £113.21 from aria.co.uk RAM - OCZ PC2 -8500 £41.13 from advancetek.co.uk GPU - Sapphire Radeon HD4870 £180.89 from aria.co.uk CPU cooler - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro £12.91 from advancetek.co.uk Now obviously you can chop and change any parts depending on what you are using the PC for - the ones that have multiple entries like the Mobo are based on what you need really in terms of future upgrades - The Biostar is far superior to the Gigabyte but is £60 more and with the saving of the £60 you could put that toward the better case or RAM etc - hope this helps. and obviously you WILL need a PSU to be added to the equation too - so that would be up to you in terms of the power requirements when you decide the final setup :D
  20. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  21. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  22. unfortunately yes - as you mention when it says press F6 this does have to be done on Windows XP. make sure that you do have the drivers available before you do the reinstall
  23. Glad that its all sorted :)
  24. Ok - so on a £500 budget just for a tower yes - I will price this up later for you and post back with links - but in the meantime if I were you I would research building this yourself - you can always ask here for help if you get stuck or look at my sig, it really is worthwhile trying it as its just like a big jigsaw puzzle :)
  25. If you are computer illiterate then I suggest that you change your profile from Elite PC Guru as we do phrase things slightly difference depending on PC competency :D have a look at my sig and that will give you a brief idea - £170 will give you a temporary upgrade but again you will need to upgrade again in the not too distant future - its better to have a decent budget £500 + so that you can build a system that is somewhat futureproof.
