  1. Back in June, a European company called EFiX first announced their USB dongle product that promised to enable any PC to boot and install OS X from a retail DVD by automatically handling all the necessary patching and tweaks. The device was supposed to launch that month, but after a few false starts, it has just begun shipping to consumers for $155. 2. Low-cost “netbooks” were originally designed with Linux in mind, but once sales began to skyrocket Microsoft quickly moved to get its Windows operating system running on these devices. That was also true for the One Laptop per Child project, which is now finally ready to embrace XP as an alternative to power their XO-1 laptop. Peru will be the first country to receive shipments for the Windows version of the XO-1, which will include a “tweaked” version of Windows XP and Microsoft’s low-cost version of Office, as part of a nine-month pilot program. No word on whether this newest version of the so-called $100 laptop will use a dual-boot Windows XP/Sugar combination. The OLPC XO notebook has had more than its share of troubles since it was announced, but it is slowly starting to trickle into developing nations around the world. The move will help – albeit a tad late – OLPC to better compete with Intel’s Classmate and others, while Microsoft on the other hand sees this as a major step forward in its effort to grab a larger share of the netbook market. 3. AMD has just issued the ninth update this year for its Catalyst driver software package. Version 8.9, in addition to the usual round of bug fixes, includes a new 1080p @ 50Hz display mode, overclocking support for quad-Crossfire X configurations through Overdrive and OpenGL 3.0 support – which is limited to 10 extensions at the moment, but AMD promises it will “continue to expand support.” Sourced from AMD releases Catalyst 8.9 drivers, adds OpenGL 3 support - TechSpot News
  4. Another plus is that drives are now a lot cheaper than they used to be you can get a 1TB SATA II for under £100
  5. Here you go Biostar USA
  6. If the HDD is dying then the the HDD activity light on the front of the PC would be permanently lit while there are stutters or pauses within Windows. You would also be getting the dreaded 'click, click' noise from the HDD -
  7. You really need to reformat the PC and install the legit one that you have - you could use a partition program and format the old partition and then join the 2 but in terms of ease its easier to just format the drive and reinstall
  8. This is not a true comparison - the PC will naturally be faster as lots of the MS services are disabled too - you need to have a look in msconfig and see whats in there - upon removing those entries if it is not faster then this method can be tried - I would not recommend the way suggested as it is not a true reflection.
  9. No problem - glad we could help. and you know where we are ;)
  10. could be a number of things - surge in the MOBO - heat build up in the stick - do you have enough cooling in the case. They can just go pop and like you say OCZ have a lifetime warranty and thats why thats all I use :D
  11. wo wo - I have no idea what you have downloaded it should just be an exe file - you should have the chipset driver on your MOBO disk - or have a look for the latest one on your MOBO manufacturer site
  12. Vcore is for the CPU - leave well alone  as for the RAM - try it in one of the other slots and see if that works other than that - take both RAM out and put the one in that you took out to boot the PC and try that - if that does not work the stick is dead
  13. memory config should let you - have a look in your MOBO manual and it will show in there exactly where and what to use. I cant remember from memory - will do a screen shot later if all else fails ok
  14. Ok on the BIOS normally top left there will be an overclocking section - you normally have to set to manual at the top and then change just the timings
  15. Ok - the page that you put up is the one that I would have sent you to, but the settings are CL 5-4-4-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) and the settings are accessed through the BIOS manually set them and then insert the other stick again. Vcore is also 2.1V <you should not need to change this though
  16. The only files that I have seen that people need specific stuff for is MKV files - and that was because they were downloaded off the net (I told him that they were probably bad and he watched them on BBC iplayer or whatever it is) - muppet he was (looked like Gonzo, funnily enough :D)
  17. Is it the OCZ Reaper RAM 1066Mhz?
  18. Ok - have you EVER manually set the timings and the voltage for the RAM?
  19. have a look here http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/web-browsers/3171-flash-player-and-java-utube.html
  20. ok there is a small round watch battery on the bottom (south end) of the MOBO - it just pops out
  21. What do you guys use it for - I have never needed anything more than WMP and I also use Intervideo windvd for watching movies as the audio is far superior to WMP - just curious :)
  22. also take one of the RAM sticks out.
  23. It's toast mate  - get shopping :(
  24. ok - have a look here Download Search Results my intel driver was found by windows update - nothing in your additional hardware downloads?
