  1. Ok, its connected to the MOBO and was giving a load of sector errors - 99% of the time start shopping, but let us know what it says when you get home.
  2. This is true, but I would have presumed that the persons neighbours have some kind of protection enabled and as it was accessed to use the net find this unlikeley
  3. Is it connected directly to the MOBO or via a PCI device?
  4. Big time matey :D
  5. The only way this can happen is if you have a wireless router, or if you have a device in the PC downstairs that acts as a HUB - some of the ABIT MOBO's supported this but whilst it is acting as a HUB that PC cannot use the internet. I think you have a router
  6. I am due to put a projector in my converted loftroom for the kids WII and XBOX etc - :D and obviously for me to watch my Stargate Atlantis and Movies :D
  7. Winrar is widely used around the globe, but as Randy says it is not FREE, as far as I know you can still use any winzip program to open RAR files.
  8. OMG - I had no idea that there were so many phobias - well I can honestly say that the only phobia I have is if all computers stopped working - I could not see that one in there :D
  9. After two years in development, VLC, the popular open-source player has just moved from the 0.8.x versions to version 0.9.2. The newly updated software remains small and lightweight while bringing a new interface for Windows and Linux systems as well as new inputs, more codec support and new on the fly audio and video filters. In addition to playing just about anything you can throw at it, VLC can also transcode videos and songs from one format to another – sans watermarks or limitations whatsoever. Head over to our download section to grab your copy for Mac, Windows or linux systems. Sourced from VLC media player 0.9.2 released - TechSpot News
  10. Canonical and Ubuntu have gotten some backlash from their users prompting a recent update in which they are given the added burden of the Firefox EULA without their consent. The issue at hand is that Mozilla is requiring Canonical to include the EULA for their browser with all new releases if they continue to want to use the Firefox name. It apparently stems from a trademark issue, and doesn't actually restrict the user in any fashion. Of course, that's not why the users are upset – they are upset because it seems unnecessary. The owner of the company seems to side with the users. He sees the inclusion of the EULA as mostly pointless. He does see why Mozilla is requiring the inclusion of the EULA, but calls the decision “unfortunate.” Sourced from Canonical in hot water over Firefox EULA - TechSpot News
  11. Confirming earlier reports, Intel has officially unveiled its six-core server microprocessors. Codenamed Dunnington, the new chips are part of the Xeon 7400 family of processors, which comes in four-core and six-core versions designed to be used in systems with four or more processors. Intel says the new chips deliver 50 percent better performance and 10 percent lower power consumption than the previous line of Xeon CPUs. Much of this performance boost logically comes from the extra cores, but also due to the included 16MB of shared L3 cache, marking the first time the Xeon architecture has had L3 cache on the chip. The chip giant will be offering seven flavors initially – three six-core versions and four quad-cores. The line tops out at 2.66GHz with a 130W thermal design point, but there are also low-power versions that bring TDP levels down to 50W for the quad-core and 65W for the six-core, both running at 2.13GHz. 12. How far are we away from a Windows 7 beta? Apparently only a month away. Considering that six years traversed between the release of XP and Vista, that's certainly putting some racing stripes on development and getting it out the door fast. Of course, this is just a rumor. There is some other interesting information on it, such as that the beta itself will be revealed via Microsoft's Professional Developer Conference, as well as a potential release date of Summer 2009. 13. Mine is 20Mb download and 1Mb upload courtesy of Virgin, will do the speedtest at some point and post the 'actual' figures. can't wait for the 50Mb rollout WOOHOO :D
  14. Ok - when you do a reinstall of windows and you have more than 1 disk you need to reactivate the other disks via the admin tools. control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management. from there you will see all your drives and you just right click on the ones not showing and click 'activate' :)
  15. Glad it's all sorted and thanks for letting us know - wireless routers are reknowned for causing this issue especially with headsets that have amps build in :)
  16. Ok have you set the main boot device back to HDD as you would have had it on CDROM to do the reinstall?
  17. In terms of the Nvidia lawsuits - they have messed up on the mobile GPU's, but everyone knows that it can happen and they are paying $200 per person so that they can ship the laptop back to whom they bought it and get a new card and then have it sent back - what more do people want. As for the finance sector going down the pan - these companies rely on people borrowing money etc and because of the 'credit crunch' no one is and they are sinking FAST, closer to home AIG is the next one and leaves a certain Manchester football team without a sponsor
  18. In terms of standard browsers obviously IE8 is going into Windows 7. Google chrome will be included in their own OS but seeing as though it's Linux based - wont be used as widely as IE or FF
  19. Wirelessdaemon will be the configuration tool that BT uses in order for you to access the internet wirelessly. for example -If you buy a wireless card you get drivers with it that you can use Or you can use the windows wireless configuration you cannot use both. as this would cause a conflict
  20. Hi, and welcome to FPCH :)
  21. saw what you did there :D will have a look later mate - sure it was there when Doug looked
  22. Toast.com is also good as they give you different size files to D/L U/L and checks global too - Think I suggested it to Doug, but can't remember
  23. Right so you have updated the BIOS to the latest version? have you installed the Intel chipset driver for the Q6600?
