  1. Strategy games require lots of GPU (graphics card) power as there are multiple units and structures doing many different things - you need along the lines of:- CPU core 2 GPU 9600GT 2GB RAM
  2. The Mobo should not be running at 35 degrees, is the board passively cooled (heatsinks) or is it actively cooled (fans) you need more fans blowing air over the MOBO -
  3. First things to check - all the cabling and that the PC monitor is in the left hand side port on the graphics card. then try just one RAM stick, if that does not work try the RAM in various RAM slots. is their power to the Graphics card? and welcome to FPCH
  4. Also it is very rare that they only have a 4 pin and not an 8 pin aswell.
  5. Right there are some issues with this - please clarify:- do you have a 24 pin ATX cable on the MOBO and a 4 pin ATX or do you have a 20 pin that also has a detachable 4 pin and this has the adapter on it? Is your MOBO 20 or 24 pin?
  6. I would check the driver that you downloaded again and as you have it on 64bit OS I would not be surprised if the driver they have done is not very good. I know this doesn't help but 64bit OS are reknowned for software problems.
  7. I know its extra expense - but I cannot urge people enough at the very least to have 2 drives or more - you can install the OS on one and then any data, photos or videos, programs they WANT to save copy them over to the other drive - RAID in mirrored mode is also a good idea if the board supports it - I would recommend this more in XP as the setup process is a pain with SATA drives - Vista reinstall only takes like 30 minutes :D
  8. Sounds like the HDD is really struggling or dying - or something is - chances are it would be the HDD - how old is it?
  9. Ever wanted to get OCZ-quality gear without paying an OCZ price? The company posted an announcement earlier this week that may just make that possible, letting the world know they are launching an OCZ Gear site expressly to sell hardware they want to get rid of. The OCZ Gear site will carry many of their products, but will specialize in items that are either discontinued, refurbished or are considered “clearance” items. The reasoning seems to be simple enough: Too much hardware, not enough buyers – or too much old hardware taking plenty of space. The gear will still carry a warranty, so there's a clear benefit to an enthusiast on a budget here. Sourced from OCZ announces Gear site to sell EOL hardware - TechSpot News
  10. A Microsoft spokesperson recently talked about the introduction of Google's Chrome Browser, and apparently it has them at least somewhat concerned. Microsoft's Scott Hanselman said that Silverlight could face a serious threat from Chrome (and Firefox), if Google and Mozilla continue to improve the execution speed and efficiency of JavaScript. According to him, a “100 to 1,000 fold” increase in JavaScript speed could be expected from the two rival browsers, which would turn it a better choice for numerous web-based applications. With this in mind, the software giant seems to be considering Chrome and it's fast JavaScript speed to be more of a challenger to Silverlight than Adobe Flash ever was. Sourced from Microsoft fears Chrome's JavaScript performance more than Flash - TechSpot News
  11. I will admit that it is a close call - Plasma 25,000 : 1 Dynamic Contrast LCD is 17,000 : 1 contrast ratio Lower is better The above is my LCD VS the nearest rival in terms of price both 42" around £620
  12. If this is the case then why does EVERYONE use LCD PC monitors, I am not being picky for the sake of it mate but you have to look at the ratios to understand why an LCD is better and therefore they provide a better quality
  13. LCD all the way - they are a clearer picture and they give off no where near as much heat - I recently bought a 42" Toshiba LCD with digital freeview built in for £600 and that was with a wall mount thrown in too - if you are doing this poll as you are looking to buy mate - let me know and I will fire you a pic over.
  14. Many happy returns mate :)
  15. You also need to go to the files in the C:/ drive and manually delete the files or see if within those files there is an uninstall for the program - I have used TweakUI - but I would not recommend it to someone (caused a few hairy issues for me )
  16. Nice shout on Metallica :)
  17. No problem - you know where we are ;)
  18. Doug, from top to bottom the spec is fine - I would suggest that you check the RAM compatability with the MOBO as Kingston RAM can be a pain. Other than that nice spec and if you need any help building it then check my sig :D
  19. Right this is VERY confusing - AMD uses the 4 pin ATX cable and INTEL uses the 8 pin ATX - are you confusing it with something else, or am I?
  20. Klaus 5000, Welcome to FPCH :)
  21. Also make sure that you dont have unnecessary programs running at startup - open a command window - cmd.exe and then type msconfig - there are some tabs at the top, choose the Startup one and see if there is anything running in there that you no longer need/use - if you struggle - post the page on here and we will help :)
  22. dedicated sound cards are much better and they are not that expensive - its up tp you but if you use the headphones alot then I would invest :)
  23. Hi Pensham, Welcome to FPCH :)
  24. Advanced - I totally agree - you do at the very least need the admin page passworded.
  25. Advanced - the 'average' user cannot crack a WPA or a PSK password, it is very different here than in the US - our modems are not integrated with the router they are a seperate piece of hardware.
