  1. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  2. DELL often use a 'recovery partition' rather than OS disks. Did the OS disk come with the lappy? If you cant delete the C:/ partition when trying to install an OS then there may be restrictions set in the BIOS

  5. Hi and welcome to FPCH :) There are some great people here, that I am sure will help
  6. So you dont have a CRT monitor? Did you install the latest Nvidia drivers for the new/older cards?
  7. Do you have a PCMCIA slot on the MOBO, if not then not really much you can do, USB to firewire adapter would not really work anyway because firewire is capable of faster transfer rates than USB. It would 'work' but would more of a 'bodge' not as good as firewire itself. Hope this helps Incase you dont know what a PCMCIA slot looks like http://www.quatech.com/email/images/pcmcia-slot.gif
  8. You could remove the HDD, install it in another PC and then recover the files. Unfortunatley we cannot help with password recovery (you could be lying and trying to break into someone elses PC) but Google is a great little tool I know typing random words like forgot windows vista log in password can sometimes help with little niggles ;) *I cannot be held responsible for any actions you follow by typing red words into Google :D
  9. Its not related to the GPU. Do you have an older analog monitor? have you tried disabling the power save modes from within windows?
  10. did you try with an ethernet to rule out the fact that its not the drivers of the device trying to access the router. Connecting to a network is one thing, connecting to the internet through a network is something else entirely
  11. yeah it's bust, laptop screens range from £60-£200 on the net, but then you need to fit them too.
  12. does it work if you press control and V (which is paste) rather than right click, then paste:)
  13. Bad pool header is related to the RAM or the HDD, try and remove one of the sticks, if you still get the error, replace that stick and remove another. if you do this with all sticks and you get the same thing, then you need to reinstall the OS
  14. In all honesty I wouldnt bother buying new. If you are looking for a 'true' server then I use some of these 2U Rackmount SERVER Dual CPU AMD Opteron 250 2.4Ghz on eBay (end time 04-Aug-10 10:41:28 BST) and there is a BIOS update available for W7 or Server 2008 I have 3 at the moment, you DO need ECC RAM though, they come with 2x AMD Opteron 250 2.4GHz cores, well you can see the spec (these are the best ones on ebay as they have 4x SATA on the board)
  15. I need to update mine, I have a 15U server rack now :D and some additional PCs :)
  16. what are you referring to in the BIOS. Have you checked that the jumper pins on the back of the CD/DVD drive match its position on the IDE cable (master or slave) after it detects the drive in windows, goto control panel>system>device manager> under the CD/DVD rom the drive should be listed double click it, select the driver tab at the top, then click update driver, it will search your system files, then MS update (if it does not find a driver then you need to get one from the manufacturers website) Hope this helps, any problems let us know
  17. A 2.0 is backward compatible with 1.1 and 1.0 PCI-E. what you read as hit and miss is that certain VIA chipsets do not play well when you use a 2.0 in a 1.1 or 1.0 slot (this should be rectified by now in a BIOS update) as this issue was a while ago. Hope this helps
  18. Until it cleans some files it thought were orphaned and were not  just exercise extreme caution if you are using them, why are people obsessed with cleaning the registry, it has NO tangeable benefits whatsoever (unless their is a specific issue and a registry cleaner would NOT sort that anyway) and can cause more harm than good.
  19. So does it connect if you connect the PC to the router via an ethernet cable? for 300Mbps speed you need to use WPA2 encryption. If you can connect to the router wirelessly but not the internet then something must be stopping you, such as the SSID (name of the router that was set up) and the passphrase that was also set up.
  20. Laser mice work the same as any other mice, but where the differ from a trackerball mouse is that the laser 'bounces' off any surface and doesnt need a mouse mat. As for the software that you can download, its for configuring the additional buttons on the mouse from the windows desktop
  21. If you remove the drivers through hardware monitor> device manager then restart the PC, it should load the windows default drivers. (CD/DVD ROM devices ONLY use windows standard IDE/loaded SATA drivers) You mentioned firmware, this is similar to a MOBO BIOS and should not be altered unless the drive was having problems from the start, such as not being able to read/write disks
  22. USB devices ALL draw power from a specific rail on the PSU (power supply) make sure that no other USB devices are plugged into the back ports when trying to use the front ones
  23. Any software that mentions 'clean up' and 'repair' should be disregarded. If you can use this software to get you out of trouble, then you couldn't have been in as much trouble as you thought :D
  24. What does it say when you try and read one? any errors?
  25. If your looking for a free one you can use:- Avast Avira or MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) this one would be my personal choice.
