Uninstall Norton, its absolutely (not allowed to swear) :D Get something free like Avast or Avira and see if it solves the problem, Symantec (Norton) software has a tendancy to 'lurk' around after you install it. So go to symantecs website and use their uninstaller

They all pretty much do the same thing, and you have to make an ISO image to run memtest, If you cant pass the windows one you dont have a chance with passing Memtest

It's your Symantec security blocking it. Have you configured Symantec firewall to allow the connections?

Depending what was split on it, it could be sticking. there isnt much you can do, other than remove the whole pad (not an easy task, well it is but getting it back on isnt :D) see if it gets better with time, if there is space you could try using a cotton wool bud or a cocktail stick with a thin piece of cloth

If it cant pass the tests, then it would indicate that one or both of the sticks are faulty. Remove one of them and re try the test, if the same happens then try the other stick on its own and see if it passes. One should pass, as its VERY uncommon for both sticks to go at the same time. PC8500 is faster RAM and it can be matched to the frequency of the CPU which means it runs better for Overclocking. If you dont plan on overclocking then its not the end of the world, but as one of your sticks are bad then its not worth putting PC6400 in, just get PC8500 as its about £30-40 for 2GB now So run the test on each stick independantly and see if one passes (if none pass then, try another set of DIMM slots as its not uncommon for these to go too)

As we could source all the parts for your budget, but then you need to be able to assemble it all. Also do you need:- Monitor OS Keyboard/Mouse etc incorporated into the price of the build? or are you re using any old parts, let us know if you plan on keeping the HDD you currently have etc as we wont price one up then

If the user was an administrator then it shouldnt allow you to remove that persons files, have you looked in C:/ users

What are you actually trying to do?, if you are trying to update and dont have the correct permissions set then it wont allow it. Its not clear if you are trying to update the actual server itself or a desktop connected to the network

So it depends on what size monitor you are planning on using as to what you need in the GPU department. Technically speaking a £150 CPU, RAM and MOBO combo would work and then you could pile the rest into the GPU, but I wouldnt as technology changes so fast when it comes to PC hardware. Do you know how to do a dxdiag report? if so post it here. if not (open a cmd (command) window and type in dxdiag just post the dispaly 1 and sound 1 tabs here If It was just crashing while gaming I would say GPU, but as its not I would say RAM, for the record in your system you should be running PC8500 not PC6400, 6400 will do but it's not ideal. as you didnt build this yourself and its a few years old now RAM was VERY expensive around this time Open control panel, then select administrative tools, then select Memory Diagnostic Tools (it will bring up a box asking to restart and then test, select that)

Did you try a system restore from safe mode? As it's not shutting down in safe mode, it points to software as opposed to a hardware fault, you could trouble shoot from within safe mode, such as removing GPU drivers and sound drivers etc (so at the moment it wont cost you anything but time :)) Worst case scenario would be reloading the OS again, do you have an OS (operating system)disk?

There is normally a configuration utility that can be run from the software folder, have a look where the game is installed normally:- C:/ program files/ (game developer name, eg ATARI, EA, LUCASARTS etc) and within that folder there will be a config utility, it basically allows you to set resolution and graphic options.

They wont just disappear, unless told to, either by you or a piece of software. Its possible they were removed by an archiving program, AV program (although unlikely it does happen) do you have any archiving programs? did the AV produce a report saying anything removed?

Different Motherboards have their own 'weird and wonderful' ways of recognising everything, often with results like yours, the BIOS is not ALWAYS right regardless what it says, I still get a SATA device listed as an IDE, its just that the SATA sits in with the IDE controller on the board. If its not causing issues then dont worry. If it is which you say it is then check the basics such as updated GPU drivers etc first. as the board features onboard VGA, have you disabled this in the BIOS if you are running an add in card?

Remember that Vista and W7 have very different OS architecture from XP, for one they both use DX10 and 11, and while they may not always be used your software will have to support it Visit their page for newer releases www.videolan.org/vlc/

Have you checked that you have the latest BIOS and drivers for the chipset etc? If its showing as 1x then there is either something wrong with the way its configured in the BIOS or the card itself. If the MOBO has more than one PCI-E slot and its in one of the slower slots it would still show as 8x

If you have a friend or someone who uses PCs then borrow a PSU to test, if that doesnt fix it then I would say its the MOBO

A 32 Bit OS will recognise exactly 3.75GB of RAM (if you have over this amount) And BeeCeeBee is right the 512 on the GPU will be 'added' to the total system count. You do need a 64Bit OS if you plan on using more RAM

Just to add to this, you 'normally' need to install the drivers BEFORE you connect the device.
