  6. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Mike. :) Ron, I think he is using Windows Vista Ultimate. At least, that is what he has stated in his profile. :) If you are using Windows Vista, then some games might not work on it as they were probably not designed to be supported on the Operating System. In that case, I suggest that you try and install some more supported games and see if they work or not. Also please elaborate the steps you have taken in your next post. Let us know how it goes. -- Goku
  7. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Jake. :) Are you using Windows XP SP3? If not, then I suggest you update your computer as soon as possible through the Automatic Updates. The error code you get is normally received when there is an access violation. Microsoft has released a Hotfix but it is not for command prompt. However, I suggest you give it a try and see how it goes. Windows XP patch to fix the Explorer.exe stop error: 0xc0000005 (KB938828) If the above Hotfix doesn't work, then it is most likely a faulty RAM module. In that case, our hardware experts will guide you through a solution. Please let us know how it turns out. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

  17. What I mean to say is that because you installed the Asus drivers, they seem to be conflicting with the Nvidia drivers. Please uninstall them as you will not be needing them and reinstall the Nvidia drivers. The message you receive is also caused due to a driver conflict. If the above does not resolve your problem, we will consider hardware conflicts. Please try it and let us know how it goes. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  18. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Dragon. :) I believe that the Asus drivers are causing a conflict as they are known to cause such issues. Please uninstall them, reboot your computer and see if the problem is solved or not. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  19. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Aldin. :) CMOS checksum bad means that the contents of the configurable CMOS section of BIOS doesn't agree with the stored checksum (derived by a mathematical formula from the contents the CMOS should have). In other words, the contents of that section of memory is not what you stored there and needs to be fixed. The reasons can be many, ranging from a virus to a hardware fault. As you rightly said, that you were infected by a virus and since then, the PC failed to boot, I think it is also the reason behind your "dead" computer. In this case, I would suggest you wait till our Malware experts come online and review your case. Thank you for your patience and co-operation. :) -- Goku
  20. Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help David. :) Never, I repeat never trust a registry cleaner to solve your problem. On the contrary, expect it to raise more problems for you. Deleting a thousand orphaned and invalid entries will not give you a tremendous performance boost or will solve your problems as they advertise, so you may want to consider alternate solutions. First of all, why not try and remove invalid traces of DirectX that might have been left of previous installs. To achieve this, use DirectX Eradicator. Remove any traces the utility finds and reboot your computer. Now, try and install DirectX again. Your best bet would be to download a redistributable package so that you may keep it for future instances too should circumstances demand them. You can download the DirectX Redistributable Package (June 2008) from any of the following locations. DirectX 9.0c (full package) DirectX Redistributable 9.0c June 2008 Try and see if it helps or not. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

  22. Tony, can you confirm if she has any management software installed? Someone in her home might have set it to auto shut down after forty minutes? Also, does reverting back to AOL 9.0 helps her or not as AOL 9.1 is still in Beta and therefore is bound to have problems. -- Goku
  23. Can you tell us what Operating System is she using? -- Goku
  24. A very good idea Maynard. They should post advertisements on it about a "crash course". Ha Ha. Get it? Ok, I agree it was a bad one. -- Goku
  25. He did mess up Dave. Anyways, now that the purpose of the thread is served, please do not post until there is an update for the problem of the original poster. Thank you. :) -- Goku
