  1. Well Johnny, it seems its the same problem that you had last time. If it is, then can you please elaborate a little on how you got it fixed the last time? Armed with that information, we might be able to make some headway in your case and, if possible, guide you through a solution. :) -- Goku
  2. Dorsil, close any open windows and rerun the script. See if it helps or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  3. Funny picture, Doug. :) -- Goku
  4. It should stay put Chajun. If it is ever unable to find it, then redownload the fix from here and apply it. That should hopefully fix it. Glad I could help. :) -- Goku
  5. Hello Chajun. Download the following file to your Desktop and open it. After it has been opened, you will find a file named MSConfig Fix inside. Double click on it and answer Yes to the following prompt. It should say something like "The Registry value was imported successfully". After you have done so, try to start the MSConfig utility again. Tell me if it works or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku MSConfig Fix.zip
  6. I will try and search for a solution that will remove the nag but I cannot assure you that there will be a fix. However, I will try my best. Just hang in there till we search for a solution. :) -- Goku
  7. Hello and Welcome to FPCH D4VE. :) I think this is mainly a hardware compatibility issue. In simple words, the battery you received as a replacement is not made for the make or model number of your laptop. However, this is entirely my guess. The hardware experts might be able to elaborate and explain the problem much better than me, and if possible, might guide you through a solution to this. Please bear with us as they will immediately consider your problem as soon as they are online. Thank you for your patience and your co-operation. :) -- Goku
  8. One more thing. If you want to use Deep Freeze but also want to make some slight changes occasionally, then you need to use the Faronics Mapping Tool designed specifically for it. That way you can secure your system and use it without any hassles too. :) -- Goku
  9. No two zebras have the same striped pattern. :) -- Goku
  10. For the Firefox problem, it is caused because the file is not being downloaded properly. Try the download again and let it complete if you have to keep the computer idle for some moments. The bug will even cause Internet Explorer 6 to crash so there is no need to worry. It is fault at Microsoft's end and not yours so there is nothing you can do to cure it. Cheers! :) -- Goku
  11. For example, if you have a *.html file on the desktop named Goku, then in the default Windows configuration, it would appear as Goku. However, when you have modified the settings described in the above article, the file on desktop will appear as Goku.html. The last four letters which were previously "invisible" will now appear. If you can't see any letters or any dot in the file, simply put .html and press Enter. Now try and see if the file opens or not. If it does not, then configure your other laptop to show what extension is the file in question. Then change to it and you should be able to open it. Post back the results as soon as possible. :) -- Goku
  12. Thanks a lot Randy. That confirms my theory. Unfortunately, there is no known fix for it yet. If only Microsoft would release one, then you might be able to have a crash-free experience. :) -- Goku
  13. Very uniformed of him indeed Randy. The problem is caused by a program called Deep Freeze. Though a very useful program, he installed it without thinking of the consequences. Therefore any changes he made were reset by Deep Freeze at the next reboot. And he didn't even mention to us that he had it installed! By the way, here are your instructions on how to uninstall Deep Freeze. They are found in the FAQ section of the official home page. Deep Freeze is installed on my machine. I would like to uninstall it. How is this done? And next time, please post the complete information including any recent changes before you ask for help. It might be very important in determining the cause of the problem. Whoosh! He really kept us on our heels. :) -- Goku
  14. Also, I think that it is a bug in Vista the causes Internet Explorer to crash every time the following script is loaded. Its known as the ActiveX bgColor bug. Click on this link. It will open in a new Window but will crash Internet Explorer 7. Therefore any page with this script will crash in Vista summarily. Try the above test and see if it works or not. I am almost sure that it is due to the same bug but I just want to confirm my suspicion. Please post back the results as soon as possible. :) -- Goku
  15. Also, the condition is very bad. I cannot boot from a CD and the BIOS boot settings are unchangeable. So any chance of a reinstall or a reformat is ruled out. He has called for a local tech but I don't see much hope for him considering he is locked on all corners. Please suggest me some ideas so that I can get a brainwave. :) -- Goku
  16. Does this problem persist with Internet Explorer or any browser you use? Please try to use some different browser like Mozilla Firefox and see if are able to "connect" or not. Post back the results as soon as possible. :) -- Goku
  17. Its really a very bad case Seth. The virus or whatever it is won't even let me install Avira. Everything that you install or uninstall comes back after a reboot. I did a full scan with Avira but it detected only one virus and no more. I suspect that it is a Rootkit problem. I am running a rootkit scan now and will post back immediately with the results. Please give me some suggestion as I am really out of ideas. :) -- Goku
  18. Here. Try this and see if it helps or not. 1) Click on Start. 2) Select Run and enter the following command in the Open box. 3) Click Ok. 4) After some time, a message box should pop up that should say: Now try and run the file. See if it works or not. By the way, can you tell us what extension the file you are trying to open is. Read these articles to get a basic idea on how to make extensions appear in Windows XP. Configuring Windows To Show Extensions How do I show file extensions in Windows? After it is done, note down the file extension and undo the changes. They will be the usual three or four letters appearing after the dot. If no extension appears, then state so in your next post and I will give you further instructions. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

  20. As I said earlier Eniacap, I am sorry we couldn't be more help. The article in the magazine that you read was probably right but how can we recover a file if we don't know whether it has been deleted or not. I have tried everything I can think of and yet you are unable to recover the file. Hope you find it eventually in some folder of your computer. :) -- Goku
  21. How can you say that the hard drive died just like that? You admitted that you had tapped the CPU case when you heard the noise. This probably means that you disturbed the already loose drive head from its original place. This is why the hard drive "died" in the first place. However, I think that the experts here like Seth, Kelly and Dalo should reasonably sort you out as they have rarely failed us before. Just follow their instructions properly and you shall be all right. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  22. Well as you said Steve, there isn't much to learn in Firefox but rather to explore. There is a simple work around to get your Dad's bookmarks by importing them into Firefox. Here is how to do it. 1) Open Mozilla Firefox. 2) Click on the Bookmarks toolbar and select Organize Bookmarks.... 3) In the new Window that opens, click on the File toolbar and select the Import.. option. This will get you the same kind of Window you first got when you opened Firefox. Import your father's bookmarks and delete your own if you want to. I think thats all you asked for. Happy Exploring! :) -- Goku
  23. Here is an article that describes on how to boot into Safe Mode in Windows Vista. Start your computer in safe mode Try and see if booting it in safe mode helps or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  24. For that, there is a simple test John. Read on for more information. How to determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system Perform the test, install the appropriate drivers and see if you still get the "Twain Error" message. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  25. So have you decided to put the icon in the Taskbar or are you going to check it manually? Actually, there is a Firefox extension that acts similar to the Outlook Express button in Internet Explorer 6. Its called Get Mail. Get Mail However, it is unsupported by Firefox and therefore unofficial too. The previous 1.xx series supported it but the developers removed it for some reason from the 2.xx series. However, according to user reviews, it works on Firefox 2 as well. You might want to try it. If you do, let us know if it works fine or not. :) -- Goku
