Javascipt problems in IE7 and Vista generally
Goku replied to masplin's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If you think that JavaScript has been turned off in Internet Explorer, then here is how you can re-enable it or at least enable the setting. How do I turn on JavaScript in my browser? How To Turn on Javascript Also, I think Maynard has gratefully made us a tutorial post on the same topic here. Hope that is all you need. Try and see if it helps or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku- 35 replies

Ok, so I understand that you saved all of your eight slides in a single *.jpg file that you labeled StBarb. In this file, all eight of the slides were grouped together. After you had been through with the files i.e is to say that you seperated and edited them individually, you saved them to a folder. Is this summary right? If the above options are correct, then I believe that the problem occurred in the second phase. I know it is a very slim chance but are you sure you saved them to a folder. It can be a possibility that you might have forgotten to save your files and that you may have accidentally ignored the warning prompt. If, god forbid, this is the case, then no file recovery software or technique can bring back the files and I am sorry to say you will have to start again. However, if you are sure that you did save the files then ignore my above assumption and try something else. There might be a chance that the slides might have been saved to an invisible or as to say hidden folder. Can you please configure some settings and see if the files appear or not. Show Hidden Program or System Files If none of the theories, assumptions or solutions work, then post back here and we will try and search an alternate solution for you. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

Seth, he has checked that already. Look at post #33 here. I recommended the same to him and unfortunately, it didn't work. Lets see if he wants to switch to Firefox or not. :) -- Goku

I have alreay elaborated about Firefox in your other thread here, Steve. :) Thats no reason why he shouldn't switch to Firefox. Firefox integrates the latest security updates with a simple and effective interface so that any computer user can surf the net smoothly and safely. As I said, it is customizable and you also get a skin to make it look like Internet Explorer 6. Just explain the same points to your father and convince him to switch to it. He will absolutely love it. Please try and see if you can help this or not. Meanwhile, I will look for an alternate solution. :) -- Goku

WGA is an abbreaviated form for Windows Genuine Advantage. This is a perk enjoyed only by genuine Windows users so that Windows updates and softwares cannot be enjoyed by pirated copy users. I don't know if Internet Explorer 7 still requires it or not but when I tried it previously, it did check for WGA. :) -- Goku

Sorry to interrupt Eniacap but what do you mean by "And placed them in a file." What kind of file did you put the slides in? Or are you referring to a folder? Please clarify. It may help us look up for a solution. :) -- Goku

Let us know if you can. Also, try Seth's suggestion before you do buy anything new. Who knows, it may save you from a whole lot of trouble. :) -- Goku

Ok, there might be many reasons when a computer makes loud grinding noises. Some of them could be: 1. A failing hard drive. 2. A dust accumlated fan. 3. A scratched or damaged CD in the CD tray. Lets exempt the first possibility for now and concentrate on the second and third possibility. Given what you said about the fan, I suspect that the fan is dying, and that your computer is overheating. Your first step should be, if you can afford to do so, is to replace the fan (or possibly replace the power supply that contains the fan). Also, you say that you experience the problems after you are ten minutes into the game. Does the game you play require a CD to stream data from? If this is the case, then when the loud noise comes, open the CD drive and take the CD out. See if the computer still shuts down. I know this solution is not very likely but try and see if it helps or not. Also, try Seth's solution first and see if that too works or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

Glad you got it solved. As Maynard said, please ask any questions or queries if you have them. :) -- Goku

Windows XP wont Shut Down
Goku replied to mr_banana_pants's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I think the problem is caused due to a bug in XP. Read the article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base to learn more about it. Windows stops responding during Windows XP shut down There is an alternate work around the problem too which can be achieved by configuring the shutdown settings in XP. To achieve this, read the following article. How to change the logon window and the shutdown preferences in Windows XP That should hopefully fix the problem. By the way, do you have any Service Pack installed. If not, then you might want to update it as well. Good Luck. :) -- Goku -

Hello John. Have you tried what Seth tried? If you have, then what results did you get. On another note, I think you do need to reinstall the scanner or better yet, just its drivers. Then try again and see if you can get further or not. By the way, what happened with the Twain Source error? :) -- Goku

Thanks Seth. :) -- Goku

Not really. You just have to replace the batteries and try and see if it resolves your problem or not. Note: Removing and replacing the batteries will cause the BIOS settings to reset to default. Therefore after you have replaced the batteries, reconfigure the BIOS according to your needs. Thats all you need to know. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

I think you do need to buy a new battery. They come really cheap and last a year or two so they live up to their costs. The power fluctuation probably corrupted the battery. You are lucky as sometimes such fluctuations can also cause harm to the motherboard. Anyways, buy a new battery from a local dealer and replace it with the existing one. That should hopefully fix it. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

Correction Maynard. Its Googol and not Google. Google has adapted its name from the same and therefore has a lot of zeros in its search pages. :) If you cut a starfish in five pieces, each piece will grow into an individual starfish. -- Goku
