  1. From your tone, it seems that both you and your father seem to love Firefox. I am not surprised by this as old Internet Explorer users often find Firefox as a gust of fresh breeze. Glad we could help. If you have any other problems, you know where to ask next. :) -- Goku
  2. Your best bet would be to install the Neofox IE 6 theme. And beware as stealth tactics can fail too. Your father will realize it soon enough that he can do tabbed browsing which might throw caution to the winds. But on the other side, if he does discover Firefox by himself, he will love it even more. There is just so much to explore and play with that he will like it. Let us know if you are successful in converting him as another convinced Firefox user or not. :) -- Goku

  4. Well you must have nullified your "sins" by helping those in need here. :) The elephant is the only mammal that can't jump! -- Goku
  5. Well said Seth. I know I am pushing it too far Steve but would you like to try Thunderbird. Its in the same class as Firefox. Internet Explorer : Firefox :: Outlook Express : Thunderbird If you do not like it, then you might want to put the Outlook Express icon in the Taskbar or in the system tray as there is no way of integrating the icon within Firefox itself. :) -- Goku
  6. So did you get your father convinced to accept change for the better? :) -- Goku
  7. The first known transfusion of blood was performed as early as 1667, when Jean-Baptiste, transfused two pints of blood from a sheep to a young man! -- Goku
  8. Think how much Russia would lose if it were declared a dry country! It's against the law to burp, or sneeze in a church in Nebraska, USA. -- Goku

  10. Excuse me Pablo but wasn't your previous thread locked. Have you installed legitimate Windows software or are you still using the pirated version? Please refrain from posting again as we shall be forced to close this thread again. :) -- Goku
  11. John, you cannot change the display language in Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. If you want to change the display language, then you have to do it while you are installing Windows Vista. The other option is only available to Vista Ultimate and Enterprise users. The Display Language can be changed in Windows Vista Home Premium by installing unsupported MUI packs but this will be more of a hack and therefore we cannot provide you further instructions on this. I am sorry that I couldn't be of more help. :) -- Goku
  12. John, please read my post. :) -- Goku
  13. Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) is language packs for Windows Vista that provide a translated version of most of the user interface so that users can change the display language on Vista computer and view wizards, dialog boxes, menus, Help topics, and other items in Windows in a different language, such as for Chinese version to switch language to Japanese, or German to revert to English without reinstalling. However, only Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Enterprise has license to use MUIs. All other Vista editions, including Windows Home Basic, Home Premium and Business allows only one language been selected and used. Users can select the default language when installing Vista system, but after selecting the language pack to use, system will automatically delete the non-default languages away. System updates and other services of Vista is presented to the users based on the Vista language pack installed, but these updates, although sometimes can be installed from another language, cannot change or upgrade the system to other language set. Microsoft has released the MUI Vista language packs for both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. However, as mentioned, only for Ultimate and Enterprise users who can download via Windows Update. Beside, for users who have already installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), the following error message will appear when trying to install the MUI language packs meant for RTM version of Vista, and the installation of language pack will fail. There is a tool available that can force Windows Vista to change the display language and install the MUI (Multilingual User Interface) package but it is more of a hack and therefore I can neither name it nor provide any instruction regarding its usage. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. :) -- Goku
  14. From what I have read, this program can be uninstalled through the Add / Remove Programs. Perform the following steps and see if you can get rid of it or not. 1) Uninstall it via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add / Remove Programs. 2) Remove the BDEsecureinstall.exe if still present in C:\Windows\System. 3) Disable and ideally delete it from the registry. 4) Remove the BDE directory and all its contents. Also, from what I have read, B3D Projector can also be detected and removed by Spybot Search & Destroy. This needs further input from Seth as Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware should have detected it too then. Anyways, run a full scan with Avira, Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware and post back their respective logs so that Seth can confirm any chance of infection. :) Note: First update all the three programs with the latest virus / spyware definitions before proceeding with the scans. -- Goku
  15. Honey is the only food that does not spoil. Honey found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs has been tasted by archaeologists and found edible. :) -- Goku
  16. Incidentally, did the problem first occur after you had changed the RAM sticks? Or did you change the RAM sticks because you were experiencing the problems? -- Goku
  17. Well, I am not sure of it that how could such a large file "vanish" without a trace but I cannot think of any way by which it cannot be found for such a long time. Did you have an external device like scanner or USB device connected when you were saving the files. I know this sounds foolish but I cannot think of more ways to justify the disappearance of the files. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :) -- Goku
  18. Well, it does sound like an undesirable piece of software so why not remove it. Here is a brief description of what it is and what it does. Zupdate.exe: A player for 'rich media' advertising. Similar to Onflow. It's other names are Brilliant Digital (company name), B3D Projector (application name). Apart from being downloadable from Brilliant's own legitimate-looking site, it is also stealth-installed by newer versions of KaZaA and other free applications. It allows sites to use annoying advertising with 3D effects, sound, and so on. However, it does not add its own advertising to other sites. The Projector downloads new components and updates silently. Code-signing seems to be used, to ensure only Brilliant Digital can write code to be executed by the software. The Projector has 3D functions, which are always liable to cause problems with some graphics cards and driver versions. Removal: You can use 'Add/Remove Programs' for 'B3d Projector'. And delete the directory 'BDE' inside your Windows directory, and the files 'bdeinstall.exe', 'bdeinsta2.dll', 'bdefdi.dll', 'bdedata2.dll', 'bdedownloader.dll', 'bdeverify.dll', 'bdesecureinstall.exe' and 'bdesecureinstall.cab' inside your System directory. Try and see if that uninstalls the program or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goky
  19. Well if it is, then I don't think it would be irrecoverable. Does your son overwrtie the deleted files and folders using some secure algorithm or does he simply empties the Recycle Bin. If he uses the latter option to delete the files, then the file may still be recoverable from the System Recycler. Try to use it as a third party application like Recuva to recover the deleted files. One piece of advice though. Configure the settings so that Recuva may scan the drives for every recoverable file or folder. This will generate a significantly larger list and therefore will take time to skim through. Search through the list and see if you can locate your lost file or not. If you do, then there might be still hope for recovering it. :) I know you stated in your initial post the you did use a file recovery software but try to configure it accordingly to the above description and see if the file shows up or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  20. You have a considerable amount of RAM in your computer. Therefore it might not be entirely caused by AVG. Can you please download the Antivirus I provided the link to in my previous post. After you have downloaded it, please update it and run a Full System Scan and Quarantine any item it detects. Also, it might be a good idea to remove remnants of Norton that might be leftover in the registry. How to Uninstall Norton Note: Please temporarily disable AVG while you are running Avira's full system scan. Not doing so, might result in slowing down of computer or other such conflicts. Post back the results as soon as you can. :) -- Goku
  21. Remove the AVG Safesearch and AVG Security Toolbar. AVG already has an inbuilt real-time protection and therefore you do not necessarily need its protection. That is also the major reason of hte lag and hogging of RAM according to me. Uninstall them and restart Firefox. See if it makes any difference. Also, please post your System Specifications so that we may be able to help you more effectively. :) Ways of locating hardware and other system specifications. How do I find my system specifications? Post them as soon as you can. :) -- Goku
  22. Hello Praveen and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. :) I see that Firefox is taking up an extraordinary amount of RAM. In normal conditions, it should not take more than 48,000 KBs or 48 MBs of RAM. Yours seems to exceed 128,000 KBs that is to say 128 MBs. Do you have a lot off add-ons in Firefox? Also, AVG seems to be taking a fairly large amount of RAM. Please consider a more efficient and light alternative Avira AntiVir. Also, can you please post your system specifications. As Seth did not find anything nasty, he will take back later for any Malware issues or any other issues. Please reply as soon as possible. :) -- Goku
  23. I don't think a System Restore will restore your files very effectively. You said you opened the files using Photoshop. Did someone else use your computer after you had finished the editing? -- Goku
  24. I do not think so but there is no harm in downloading it again. Please redownload it from the site I provided just to double-check and confirm that it is not due to a faulty installation. :) -- Goku
  25. A very good pointer Eniacap. Any chance you could have saved the file by some another name in a different location? :) -- Goku
