  8. Don't be disheartened Steve and don't give up. If you try, we may be able to find a solution for you. Have you tried to switch browsers? See if that works or not. There are loads to choose from: 1. Mozilla Firefox 2. Avant Browser 3. Opera 4. Flock There are many more available on the net! Just try and experiment with at least two of them and see if they work or not. Incompatible browser scripts might also cause the problem you have been facing. Let us know if you want to try further or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  9. Yes Flockers, installed programs and applications do take up Disk Space. Can you tell us how many hard drives you have. On an average, a normal computer has two disks namely C:\ and D:\. If you are short on space on one, then you might want to consider storing on the other or on external media like Flash drives, CDs and DVDs. :) To get some more ideas on freeing up Disk space, consider the suggestions and advice provided in this article. Free up Hard Disk space You might also want to use a third party program like DiskDATA to analyze where your disk space is going. :) -- Goku
  10. Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help John Lay. :) Try both the solutions provided above by Seth and if they still don't work then have a look at this article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base. "Could Not Enable TWAIN Source" or "There Is No Scanner Found" Error Messages Are Displayed Hope you are able to fix your problem soon. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  11. Glad I could help Doug. From what I have heard, Revo Uninstaller is a good one too and as far as I can remember, its probably free. Just use it till it works for you. There are some very good third party uninstallers out there but for now, you can work seamlessly with Revo. :) -- Goku
  12. You are in luck, Steve. The question has been asked many times before and therefore has many benchmark tests and reviews dedicated entirely to it. Why Firefox Beats Internet Explorer Or better yet, see here. Internet Explorer 7 vs. Firefox 2 To explain briefly, most people prefer Firefox over Internet Explorer because: 1) Its fast. 2) Its efficient. 3) Its secure. 4) Its customizable. 5) Its free (not unlike Internet Explorer 7 where all depends on your passing WGA tests). 6) And lastly because it is not made by Microsoft (this statement alone stimulates most people out there to try it). Now, I think you are ready to make your own decision. :) -- Goku
  13. Steve, you need to be careful when regarding the terms. When you mean 2048 GB, 2560 GB or 512 GB, you mean MBs, right? Well the crucial scan stated that you have two memory slots. That means that you can have 2.5 GBs of RAM by the following combination: Slot 1: 2 GBs (2048 MBs) Slot 2: 512 MBs So it might be an upgrade after all. If you want to check the amount of memory you have, perform the following instructions: 1) Click on the Start button. 2) In the menu that opens, right click on My Computer. 3) In the subsequent short-cut menu, click on Properties. 4) Under the General tab, you will find how much RAM the computer has and information on the processor and version of Windows used. Better yet simply press the Windows + Pause | Break combination. Note: Here Windows key refers to the key with the Windows Logo printed on it. And Steve, please be a bit more explanatory as I said earlier. Your previous post was a little confusing. :) -- Goku
  14. Well, the 'efficiency' of the uninstall of a program depends on the developers of the programs in the first place. The Add / Remove Programs simply associates the registry entry for the installed program to its corresponding installer. That is why if an installer is damaged, modified or removed, you get error messages. Therefore, it is also up to the uninstallers on what they are configured to uninstall. Some uninstallers are configured thoroughly to remove registry entries, folders, files, etc. while some weak one leave behind remnants. If you want to remove remnants of each software you uninstall, then you should try a third party uninstaller like: Your Uninstaller! 2008! -- Goku
  15. What you need is a step-by-step guide so that you can successfully load the Operating System onto your custom built computer. You might want to look up to these articles for the same. The Essential Guide to Installing Windows ME Install ME: Successfully Install or Upgrade Windows ME! Hope now you will be able to load ME successfully. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  16. Ok, I think that you have got a good start. I know it is not related but better remove every trace of Norton than keep astray entries of the AntiVirus. How to Uninstall Norton If you think that JavaScript has been turned off in Internet Explorer, then here is how you can re-enable it or at least enable the setting. How do I turn on JavaScript in my browser? How To Turn on Javascript Also, I think Maynard has gratefully made us a tutorial post on the same topic here. Hope that is all you need. Try and see if it helps or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  17. Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help John. Here is a bit I have taken from another member's quote that explains all about using forums. Hope that explains it all. :) -- Goku
  18. Glad I could help Steve. :) For your question on how to uninstall Java, I think the most appropriate method would be the one they describe on their official site. How do I uninstall Java on my Windows machine? And yes you do need to uninstall all of the updates before installing the newer version. I believe this is necessary to avoid any potential conflicts that might appear. Hope thats all what you need. :) -- Goku
  19. I myself have tried it Wolfey and don't seem to experience any problems. Moreover, I think Microsoft has started including them in the Automatic Updates package so its only a matter of time before you are switched to it. Anyways, the security patches and fixes do make it a tad bit safer and as I far as I have seen, there are no performance issues. So all that criticism is probably over hyped. :) -- Goku
  20. I do not know about the others but you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 6 even if you want to. Internet Explorer will overwrite the existing version and therefore you will be left with Internet Explorer 7. If you ever chose to Rollback, then simply remove Internet Explorer 7 through the Add / Remove Programs list. This will make it revert to version 6. :) -- Goku
  21. But have you tried installing using the standalone version of Adobe Flash player? The plugin might not work due to various reasons but try installing it manually if you have to. If you have already tried it then say so in your next post. :) -- Goku
  22. Does it still shut down? Sound like there is a lot of dirt clogged in the vent. To validate just the possibility, can you please try to clean the CPU fans and vents? It might be all that is causing the problem. If you want help in doing so, then you might want to see this video: How to Clean a CPU Fan Or read these articles: How do I clean my CPU/Heatsink? What should I use? How to Clean Up Your Computer Please use it as a final resort if you have to but try the above and see if it helps or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  23. If it was off, then its just that you can't play the game or your cooling systems don't work properly. As you have ruled the latter, I can only expect that its something to do with the specifications. Ok, to undo the damage, repeat the same procedure and reverse the settings. That should fix it. After you have done so, return back here and post back the results. One more thing. I don't want to be rude but can you please punctuate your posts. Sometimes, ramming words into each other may lead to confusions. Meanwhile I will try to find an alternate solution for you. :) -- Goku
  24. Good. Then get back to us when you are ready. Hope the results are positive. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
  25. Well I wouldn't really recommend it but if you were better fit with it, then I think that you should revert back to XP. One more thing I can think of is to configure the BIOS. I know you are having problems with your keyboards but try and see if you can get into BIOS. Here is a short article to give you a basic idea of it. How BIOS works? Enter the BIOS and try to modify the setting which monitors the CPU's temperature. This might also be a cause for the continuous reboot as the game might be overheating the processor. By default, it is set at optimal settings so raise them only a bit if you have too. If this doesn't work too, then either you are infected or your PC has not the appropriate specification to run it properly. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. :) -- Goku
