  2. Hello all. I have a class library, which recieves messages from various sources. I also have an exe which references the dll, and which has the capability to process these messages. Basically, I need a way so that when a message is recieved by the dll, it is passed into the exe, processed, and the reply returned to the dll. The exe already contains a function called HandleMessage which accepts and returns a string, I just need some help in figuring out how to wire up the dll to interoperate. I thought about exposing an interface on the dll, and implementing it in the exe. However, how would I tell the dll to invoke the method on the interface? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  7. Hi, My name is Jane Maliouta and I’m the program manager for IE8 Deployment and Management. When you install Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 there are a few important things to do before you start. First, I recommend you review the system requirements to make sure IE8 is supported on your computer. Second, take a look at the IE8 Release notes to find known issues and workarounds, so you’ll know what to expect during installation. Third, if the installation fails, we have a knowledge base article on Troubleshooting IE8 installation that guides you through a few workarounds. Here is some additional information that you might find useful when installing IE8. Which platforms can I install IE8 on? IE8 is supported on the following operating systems: Windows Vista Windows Vista SP1 (final version only - Currently available to MSDN and TechNet Plus subscribers and Volume License customers) Windows XP SP2 Windows XP SP3 (RC2 candidate - Build 3311 or higher) Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Windows Server 2003 SP2 Windows Server 2008 (final version only)IE8 is not supported on pre-release versions of Vista SP1 and XP SP3. When installing on earlier builds of Vista SP1, IE8 just won’t install and you will see this error “The installation does not support your operating system’s current Service Pack version.” When installing on earlier builds of XP SP3, the wizard will proceed but your system will be missing KB946501 which is required for IE8, and hence, your installation will be terminated. What Operating System languages can IE8 be installed on? The IE8 beta is currently available in English only. You can install it on any supported localized operating system. For example, if you are running German Windows Vista, you can install IE8. When you switch between languages in the Windows Vista UI, IE8 will continue to appear in English. How can I tell if I successfully installed IE8? After IE8 installation is complete, the final screen of the Install Wizard indicates that Internet Explorer installation completed successfully. After you restart your computer and launch Internet Explorer, you can open the Help->About Internet Explorer dialog to see the version number 8.0.6001.17184 How do I uninstall IE8? On Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Platforms: Open the Windows Control Panel and click Add or Remove Programs Select Windows Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 and click Remove Your computer will be reverted to IE6 + previous IE6 security updates or IE7 + previous IE7 security updates You can confirm that by going to Tools->Help About next time you launch IE Be sure to check for any new security updates http://ieblog.members.winisp.net/images/Uninstall.XP1.Server.png On Vista or Windows Server 2008 Platforms: Open Control Panel and click ProgramsClick Programs and Features, and click View installed updates, and then select Windows Internet Explorer 8 Click Uninstall this update [*]Your machine will be reverted to IE7 + previous IE7 security updates [*]You can confirm that by going to Tools->Help About next time you launch IE [*]Be sure to check for any new security updates http://ieblog.members.winisp.net/images/Uninstall.Vista1.png http://ieblog.members.winisp.net/images/Uninstall.Vista2.png Are there any required updates for IE8? There are 2 required updates for IE8: KB943302 –This update is required for Vista RTM installs only. It will be installed for you automatically as long as you leave the “Install the latest updates” option checked when going through the Setup Wizard. If this update is not on your computer when you try to launch IE8, you will be prompted to manually install this KB. KB946501 –This update is required for multi-core XPSP2 x86 computers only. Similar to the one above, this update will be installed for you automatically as long as you keep the “Install the latest updates” option checked when going through the Install Wizard. If this update fails to install or you unselect the checkbox, you will not be able to install IE8 until this update is on the computer. You can find out more about updates that get installed during IE8 setup from knowledge base article KB94856. What do I do when I run into issues installing IE8? Check out the knowledge base article on Troubleshooting IE8 installation. If after trying the recommended workarounds you still can’t install IE8, go to the IE Beta Newsgroup to see if there are any known solutions available. Microsoft MVPs and IE Team members are monitoring this newsgroup and they will help address your issues. 13. I've been to a quite a few Microsoft events, one thing that always stuck me is the number of males that go to such things. It always seems to be a huge "sausage fest". I don't ever recall a speaker at any event being a women, the only women I ever see at these events are in the audience (and very rare), or behind booths. Well anyways I was looking to see if there are such things as Linux conventions (sorry guys) and I saw this: LugRadio Live 2008 http://lugradio.org/live/USA2008/speakers 9 of the 32 speakers are women? In a computer (Linux even) convention? I can't believe this! Is Microsoft not doing enough to attract women to their field? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  14. OK so i've been bashing my head on this one all day and its doing my nut in... I need to compile a predicate(of t) at runtime, then use it. I can compile the code at runtime easily enough, the problem I have is then extracting the delegate. If I use a non-generic delegate, it works. If I try to use a predicate(of t) it doesnt, complaining that it can not load the assembly - however the assembly it complains it can not load is not the runtime compiled one, its the assembly i am trying to use to call it with. Anyone have a cluse if this is possible? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  15. I'm getting a fairly significant error when using IE8 Beta. Loading my homepage http://att.my.yahoo.com/, results in the browser operating extremely slow. My CPU is 20-50%+ Usage. Basically it locks the browser up and I have to close it... unusable page. Firefox 3 Beta 4 on the other hand opens http://att.my.yahoo.com/ faster than any other browser I've have ever used. Anyway it seems like IE8 is not handling the JavaScript correctly on http://att.my.yahoo.com/. I think this because http://att.my.yahoo.com/ is a very heavy JavaScript page. I like IE8 because of it's proprietary features like integrated windows credentials. But if IE8 cannot compete with JavaScript loading speed like Firefox3B4 does, I wont use it. More... 17. Any chance you'll add a Paste & Launch button to the address bar? That way if I copy some URL I*can just access it via the address bar in a single click instead of either Paste -> Click Go, or CTRL+ V -> Enter. http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/2223/pasteandlaunchjm8.jpg Also, why have the Copy, Paste, and Select All buttons moved from right next to my mouse cursor when I right click all the way up to the top so they're furthest away? http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6123/baduidesigneu5.jpg Oh and two more things... - CTRL+C still fails to work some of the time in IE6/7/8 (have to CTRL+C multiple times) - Combo Boxes and Auto Complete still change the selection to whatever is under the mouse cursor even if the mouse doesn't move a pixel This isn't the final IE 8 UI so let's hope the UI team get in gear. Let's also hope you add a spellcheck about five years later than most browsers. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  24. With Find As You Type, that is: http://www.ookii.org/misc/ie8_catastrophic.png This error occurs sometimes when calling the IHTMLTxtRange::select method, but not always. So far I've not been able to find a pattern in when it does or doesn't throw this error. In other circumstances (again so far I can't find the pattern), the select call succeeds but scrollIntoView doesn't seem to do anything (the text isn't scrolled into view, but the method also doesn't return an error message). I can't really delve into it further right now*since I'm using IE on a virtual machine and haven't gotten a proper debugging environment set up. In any case, anyone using my*FAYT should be warned: it doesn't work on IE8 beta 1. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
