March edition. "End Bracket": "In no way does Microsoft or the .NET community have a monopoly on good software design" Now waiting for hell to freeze over, or MSDN editor to get fired. At this stage, I'm really not sure which is more likely! * And in other news, Eric Meyer's "CSS Sculptor" for Expression Web has been released by Microsoft details here. According to Eric's blog this was announced at MIX on Wednesday. Curious thing is that nobody I know who was*at MIX*heard anything about it. Guess it somehow slipped through the cracks. More... So I booted up my trusty M4 just like any other day, only to find the display full of artifacts or garbled text characters. Not Good. Especially after just under 2 years' service, fortunately I have a 3 year warranty. Fortunately for me the HDD is SATA so I can mount it on my desktop, back stuff up and format it for when it gets shipped off sometime this week. I just hope I'll get it back by next Wednesday in time for the Launch event, otherwise I guess I'll have to commandeer the Sony Vaio currently acting as a PVR-slash-Projector driver. Has anyone else got experiences with Toshiba's servicing division? My first M4 developed an (unrelated) problem in April 2006 so I sent it off for repairs, it never came back, after 3 months Toshiba issued me with this new one (upgraded to boot), but since I've got quite an investment with this M4 (incl. docking station and extra batteries) and the fact I'm happy with its specifications (esp. the GeForce 6600 built-in) I don't want to get a "new" one (all with yucky Intel GMA, blegh!). If they can't/won't fix it, I'll demand a refund and get a ThinkPad. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Excuse me if old Link Microsoft from has little started iter for the verification of the eventual infractions of the laws antitrust in its new operating system Windows 7. Being to the information supplied from the Court of the District of Columbia, the colossus of computer science would have sent to a copy of its OS to the committee person in charge to supervise on the acts of Microsoft, it's true?? So I have an already developed set of code which I want to test. At the moment the code's going all the way down to a database to get some details that I'd like to be able to insert by hand. Initially I thought "ah ha! I'll try mocking" (never having tried it before) but NMock won't let me, as I'm not trying to implement an interface in a dummy version. There's already a class in existence, so nmock says I can't play. (Which I should have realized earlier, but I didn't have time to read all the documentation before having a stab at getting it going.) I know that I just need to set a few properties, and block a call to a function I don't need, is there any way to mock a single function, or replace a function at test time with a crippled version? The alternative, deploying a test database onto every machine running tests,*would be extremely tedious. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

... unfortunately come in the form of a program "SmartHOL Player". Why not just give us the word documents and leave it at that? Alas, there's nothing "smart" about this hands-on-labs player. When started it throws an exception: "String was not recognised as a valid date/time". Stack trace below. You can click "Continue" but then you get an installation list that shows no entries available to be installed. And, no, I haven't tried changing my O.S. to US instead of UK - why should I have to?!
